Carrie Underwood Wants V-Day Home Cooked Vegetarian Meal

51st Annual Grammy Awards - Press Room

Valentine’s Day is approaching and if you haven’t bought your sweetie something nice or planned for the evening, it’s time to get moving.

Carrie Underwood, being the competitive go getter she is, had no problem spelling it out as to what she wanted for Valentine’s Day, according to KBS Radio.

“It’s nice to go out, occasionally, but it’s nice to stay in, too. I’m more of a stay-in, probably, kind of girl. And I’ve never had a guy cook for me. So I think it’d be really awesome if the guy just kind of, you know, put a lot of thought into it. . . made the atmosphere nice. Maybe light some candles or make some decorations or something to sit around, and make me a good meal, a home-cooked meal.”

“I’m a vegetarian, too, so you’d know, it’d be like he went through some thought and looked up a recipe that he figured I would like, and you know, complete with dessert, of course.”

Is she dropping a big hint to Ottawa Senators hockey player Mike Fisher, the latest male candy she’s been romantically linked to?

Some Fans Wouldn’t Read Carrie Underwood’s Food Journal

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, February 10th, 2009 in Female Singers, Food & Drink.

51st Annual Grammy Awards - Arrivals

Carrie Underwood was recently profiled on That’s Fit for her healthy eating habits and exercise routine.

Miss Underwood has been a vegetarian since 13 years of age, does a lot of cardio to stay fit, and practices what she calls “obsessive” food journaling, according to an interview with Glamour magazine.

Food journals are way people document what they’ve eaten and the nutritional content, cravings that come and go, and situations that made them eat more or less on a certain day.

While private journals of celebrities make for juicy reading info, you can bet if Carrie decided to publish hers, it wouldn’t sell well at bookstores in some states.

She said before that she’s learned to keep her vegetarianism to herself because in some parts of the country, when she’s announced she is one on stage during her performances, she gets booed.

Britney Spears Won’t Try To Front With Live Animals

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, February 5th, 2009 in Animal Issues, Female Singers, Videos.

Britney Spears Performs On ABC's

While we’re a little confused as to why Britney would make the circus a theme for her tour, we’re at least glad she’s not using live animals on stage.

Spears caught heat from groups like the Humane Society of The United States not long ago when she used live animals in her music video “Circus.”

If you watch the video below, you’ll see lions and elephants surrounding people. (Again, why the heck bring lions in the studio? Unless, with the economy and all, you’re looking to reduce your staff.)

But thankfully, lions, tigers, or bears won’t be coming to a venue near you along with Britney. In a statement released by Britney’s people:

“We wanted the stage to resemble the design of a three-ring circus where multiple acts can take place simultaneously. While avoiding such traditional circus elements as live animals, we’ve created something innovative and exciting using contortionists, dancers, lighting, fire and other special effects. In the end, we just want fans to experience a unique and thrilling concert with Britney.”

Good job, Britney. Everyone knows you’re still so much a sex kitten, there’s no room for other animals on the stage.

Tegan And Sara Had Their Own Vegan Shoe B*tch

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, February 5th, 2009 in Fashion, Female Musicians, Female Singers, Videos.

The Tegan and Sara Macbeth Shoes! by Sara and Emy

Pop music twins Tegan and Sara have a nice pair of a new MacBeth vegan shoes out this month and looks like Sara did a little self-promo via a conversation with Emy Storey, the Art Director for the ladies who played a big role in making the shoes, posted on Myspace.

Cute twins, cruelty free shoes shoes-it doesn’t get any happier than this.

Sara and Emy spend a lot of time joking around-like mentioning that Sara sewed all the shoes herself. And spent thousands of hours on them.

“She grew rubber trees and made the soles,” Emy remarks.

“I know you think you’re so funny,” replies Sara sarcastically.

Sara asks Emy what she specifically used for inspiration to make the shoe and after Emy explains, Sara says that basically she listened to them exactly and that makes her a Tegan and Sara shoe bitch.

Love it!

Cheryl Cole departing the x factor final last night looking very happy

Cheryl Cole, judge on the UK television show X Factor, learned a hard lesson  Nigella Lawson did not long ago that joking around about animals is not always taking humorously.

Cole made the suggestion during an interview that Nadine Coyle, member of the band Girls Aloud owned a coat made of real fur.

Coyle walked into a store and picked up what she thought was a 500 pound coat (~$700 U.S.) but when she got to the checkout counter, the coat rang up at 5,000 pounds (~$5,000 U.S.) which led Cole to suggest it had to be made of fur.

Here’s a bit from the conversation that took place.

Cheryl: “It must be fur, is it fur?”

Nadine: “It’s fur.”

Cheryl: “There you go, it’s real fur.”

Nadine: “It’s like, er, tiger, like a white and black tiger.”

After animal rights groups heard this, Coyle and her publicists were flooded with calls.

A spokesperson for Coyle and her band said that the ladies were only joking, but he couldn’t confirm the materials in Coyle’s coat.

“You’ll see it’s Cheryl that said it was real fur – Nadine didn’t know what it was made of. Nadine is in America now, so I can’t ask her about the coat but I doubt she knows what it is made of.”

We doubt it was tiger fur, but really, could it have been mink, fox, or any other combination of critters used in the fur industry?

Here’s hoping Nadine just bought an over-priced coat that only celebrities can afford that is completely synthetic.

Vegan Erykah Badu Twitters Natural Childbirth

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009 in Children, Female Musicians, Female Singers.

3rd Annual Black Girls Rock! Awards

When this gal says natural, she really means it.

Erykah Badu made a statement not long ago that her children are being raised as organic vegans and she prefers natural births.

That means no drugs, folks.

Erykah is so serious about letting everyone know she’s natural, she and parter Jay Electronica blogged about it DURING THE CHILDBIRTH! Jay wrote:

“Labor has begun. Everybody standback. No hospitals. No doctors. No medicine. Were waiting on midwife to show up. I’m doing foot squeezes and foot rubs when the contractions hit…Ok… The midwife is here now and a few family members. Feels like a scene from the color purple. She’s dialated to 8 1/2 centimeters. Getting closer. She says she feels like she’s ready to push. Feb 1. 2009 my first child, my daughter was born at 1:30 pm exactly. Its the happiest day of my life.”

Congrats to the happy couple. Welcome to world vegan baby!

Declare Yourself Rebirth of Citizenship Inauguration Kick-off Event in Washington

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi threw a big birthday bash for themselves this weekend.

Both ladies’ birthdays are very close together, Ellen turning 51 on January 26 and Portia turning 36 on January 31.

Lots of celebrities were on the invite list, like Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox and her husband David Arquette, Drew Barrymore, Sacha Baron Cohen and Ben Stiller.

A vegetarian meal was served, of course, and DJ Samantha Ronson, girlfriend of Lindsay Lohan, provided the tunes.

Yes, THE Samantha Ronson, who was upset because Californians voted to approve Proposition 2, a measure to improve the conditions of certain farm animals, but also voted to approve defining marriage as between and man and a woman only.

She had blogged about the results:

“I guess people care more about farm animals than they do their fellow man, that’s really sad to me.”

“Yes, i am glad that the chickens will have more room and better conditions as they wait to die, but i just think it’s frightening that people show more compassion for tomorrow’s dinner than for the chef.”

“Yup, miss piggy and chicken little may rest easy, but gay people in florida and california can no longer get married…”

Ouch! PETA wrote to Ronson asking for her support for animals just as much as they would continue their support for equal rights for gays and lesbians.

Ellen and Portia are both vegans, have expressed their concerns for animal rights, and were supporters of Prop 2.

Hopefully, if Sam continues to rub elbows with the happy vegan couple, some of that compassion might rub off on her.
