Paramore “Brand New Eyes” Hurt No Butterflies

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, September 29th, 2009 in Animal Issues, Bands, Female Musicians, Female Singers, Videos.

Hayley Williams and the rest of Paramore discuss how the idea for the cover of their latest album, Brand New Eyes, was created.

Hayley found a butterfly in her yard one day, so she clipped its wings and separated it.

Relax, relax, relax…the butterfly had already descended into butterfly afterlife before Hayley performed the surgery.

“No butterflies were harmed in the making of this album,” another band mate added.

Although we’re still disappointed Hayley Williams of Paramore is not a total veghead like we thought, we’re happy to report she’s still partaking in a veggie burger here and there.

“gnarly press day pt. 1 is coomplete! lunch @ the diner in camden. best veggie burger i ever had.”

Yes, there are Tweets of her talking about stuffing her face with hotdogs, but…hey, we’ll take what we can get from one of our favorite Twilight soundtrack gals.

Plus she still digs Gardenburgers.

Indigo Girls Amy Ray Emily Saliers Both Deserve Foodie Title

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, September 29th, 2009 in Female Musicians, Female Singers, Food & Drink.

Indigo Girls Tape "Artist Confidential" Performance For SIRIUS Radio

The Indigo Girls are on tour promoting their album, Poseidon and the Bitter Bug.

Amy Ray, is the vegetarian of the duo consisting of her and Emily Saliers, and the pennlive.com described them in polar opposites:

“Amy Ray is the country girl; Emily Saliers likes the city. Amy plays punk while Emily is more R&B. Amy is a vegetarian; Emily’s a foodie.”

“But take this chemistry of opposites, stir it together and you get a harmony of melody and rhythm instantly identifiable as the Indigo Girls.”

We’re all about the Girls differences making for a diverse item, but not too thrilled that the opposite of vegetarian is described as a  foodie.

From Websters, foodie is described as, “a person having an avid interest in the latest food fads.”

So the opposite of that is a vegetarian who’s been eating plain beans for the past 2 decades? No way!

Any veg knows we can sample the latest way to do chicken, beef, or pork faux style in the kitchen.

Looking for a cheese ball, fondue or other dairy delight? Even a vegan can grab a hard or soft variety of cheese at a natural food store needed to complete the dish.

Not only that, but with more people incorporating meatless meals into their diets these days, for environmental or economic reasons, looks like we’re the ones starting the “fads.”

Vegetarians aren’t the opposites of foodies.

They are the new foodies.

Chrissie Hynde Brookstone Frog-O-Sphere Bashing

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, September 29th, 2009 in Animal Issues, Female Musicians, Female Singers.

The Pretenders, Cat Power And Juliette Lewis At The Greek Theatre

The Pretenders‘ singer Chrissie Hynde has written a letter to Interim CEO and president of Brookstone for its Frog-O-Sphere display, where live frogs and snails are sold in the store.

“I was horrified to learn from my friends at PETA that Brookstone is selling African dwarf frogs and snails in tiny, barren boxes. Customers have reported that the animals are languishing on store shelves and that they often die slow, miserable deaths. Foot massagers and grill equipment can live quite happily in boxes; animals cannot. Brookstone should rely on sales of innovative and cruelty-free gadgets instead of profiting from animal suffering.”

“Over the years, I’ve opened my home to many animal companions—but only after careful consideration of my ability to provide them with the love and care that they need for their entire lives. It’s irresponsible, and often deadly, to purchase animals on a whim. When the novelty wears off, the animals pay the price. Most mall shoppers have no idea of the commitment required to take care of these animals…”

**Exclusive** Alanis Morissette jogging with a friend in Brentwood

Alanis Morissette has been piling up on the nut butters, fresh produce, and whole grain good carb pastas lately as she’s preparing to run the Biz Johnson Trail Marathon to raise money for the National Eating Disorders Association.

Alanis decided to share this information to help others based on her own bad relationships with food.

If you recall, Alanis changed her eating and lifestyle about a year ago when she picked up a copy of Dr. Joel Fuhrman‘s Eat To Live, which outlines a vegan diet as the way to go.

“I don’t believe in diets; I think they’re short-term and a bit of an emotional roller-coaster,” Alanis had told Ok! magazine. “So I opened it and flipped through and thought the weight loss is incidental. The primary focus is disease prevention.”

Biz Johnson Marathon takes place on October 11.
