Women In Film Presents The 2006 Crystal And Lucy Awards - Arrivals

Singer and songwriter Diane Warren loves her veggies so much, it may take her awhile to make up her mind deciding which ones to eat.

Warren was spotted at the Veggie Grill in Irvine, California ordering her food while another customer in line waited patiently.

“In line behind Diane Warren at Veggie Grill in WeHo. She’s taking a really long time to order.”

Veggie Grill then suggested why Diane was taking so long.

“…Probably composing new song”

Hilarious!

The food at Veggie Grill would make for great inspiration, like Chinese Chikin’ or our favorite title from the menu, “All Hail The Kale,” containing marinated kale and red cabbage, roasted corn salsa, agave-roasted walnuts with a ginger-papaya vinaigrette.

Yum.

Godfather Italian Organic Vodka April 2009: Will It Be Vegan?

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, October 8th, 2009 in Business, Food & Drink.

The Godfather

The Godfather

Since there aren’t enough alcoholic beverages on the shelves already, Paramount Licensing Inc. and Iconic Brands Inc. have gotten together to launch a brand of Vodka, The Godfather Italian Organic Vodka, in April 2009.

From businesswire.com:

“We are extremely excited about our alliance with Paramount Licensing,” said Richard DeCicco, chief executive officer of Iconic. “THE GODFATHER brand will add a twist of fun and entertainment to the spirits industry, and we believe it will surely become a fan favorite in the adult lifestyle category.”

Sounds fun and exciting, but there are many questions to be answered, such as those by digitalcity.com, where the writer is interested in both the ingredients and whether or not we’ll be expected to fork over extra if The Godfather Vodka will be imported.

One question that keeps popping up in our minds is whether or not The Godfather Vodka will be veg friendly.

In fact, we’ve asked this so many times, it’s starting to sound like a David Letterman Will It Float? segment.

(singing: Will it be vegan? Will it be vegan? Will it be vegan? Will it be vegan?)

Cause everything that gets your tipsy isn’t, you know.

Some contain dairy products and forbid our vegan drunken sisters from partaking.

Other are refined with fish products that make them unacceptable for even our vegetarian brothers to take to keg parties.

Since the vodka is still in the development phase, might it help to write to either Paramount or Iconic and ask they keep The Godfather veg friendly so everybody can get drunk?

It would be an offer we can’t refuse.

Natalie Portman attends Toronto International Film Festival

The Associated Press has featured a story on the rising popularity of juicing, with the juice bar and cafe Liquiteria in New York City name dropped.

The establishment has a tabloid photo of Natalie Portman holding a bottle of Liquiteria’s cold pressed juice, which is extracted by chopping and pressing instead of spinning in a centrifuge.

Who knew Natalie was so juicy?

Liquiteria is located at 170 2nd Ave at 11th Street in NYC.

Heather Mills V Bites Bites Differently Than Thought

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, October 8th, 2009 in Business, Food & Drink, Restaurants.

Heather Mills Launches V-Bites Restaurant

We reported earlier that Heather Mills had opened a U.S. version of her V Bites vegan restaurant and cafe.

He, he, he, just kidding.

Actually, reports on the web were slightly incorrectly and the center in Bronx is the Hunts Point Alliance for Children (HPAC) community gathering space and distribution center.

So while the restaurant isn’t up yet, perhaps there is chatter going on at HPAC headquarters?

HPAC is the charity that Heather used to donate over a million dollars in vegan food to the area last year.

More information on the distribution center can be found here.

Glenn Phillips and Works Progress Administration

Works Progress Administration: (Back row L-R) Greg Leisz, Sean Watkins, Pete Thomas, Luke Bulla, Benmont Tench (Front row L-R) Glen Phillips, Sara Watkins

The Works Progress Administration is a folk band named after FDR’s New Deal agency, with singer Glen Phillips (Toad The Wet Sprocket) at the helm.

Phillips says one of his favorite things to do in LA is visit Inaka Natural Foods Restaurant.

“There is something about the coffee at King’s Road that makes me really happy. And Benmont took us to a great macrobiotic vegan quasi-Japanese place called Inaka. But my favorite thing to do in LA is just catch up with friends. And again, as far as favorite places go, it doesn’t get better than Largo!”

Looking up a link to Inaka, the restaurant is under Yelp.com‘s “Japanese” and “Seafood” categories.

Reviewers have made comments like:

“I highly recommend their chocolate tofu mousse.”

So we take it some of Inaka is vegan.

But it gets real comically confusing as another reviewer expressed content with seafood and “tofu on the side.”

“Don’t miss their salmon (ask for it pan-fried with their light/dee-lish teriyaki on the side, OR try their incredible salmon patty and ask for their tofu dressing on the side for it…YUM!!!)”

Tofu dressing sounds delicious. Salmon patty…that’s another story.

Check out the entire interview with Glen and listen to a sample track of the Works Progress Administration at laist.com.

“Be comfortable in your own skin and let animals keep theirs,” the ad reads.

BTW, have you ever stopped to think if your tattoo is vegan?

Parts of the ink solution, such as color pigments can sometimes be derived from animals, and additional ingredients like glycerin may also be unveggie friendly.

It’s always best to investigate.

Heather Mills V Bites The Bronx Opening [Update]

Written by Vegetarian Star on Sunday, October 4th, 2009 in Business, Chefs, Food & Drink, Restaurants.

Heather Mills Launches V-Bites Restaurant

Update: V  Bites The Bronx isn’t here yet.

Vegan foodies in the U.S. will be glad to hear that Heather Mills has opened a V Bites restaurant in the Bronx, New York.

This comes just months after the grand opening of V Bites in Hove Lagoon in the UK.

Heather personally was present at the opening yesterday afternoon.

Heather’s no stranger to the area, as she’s worked with a charity of hers, Hunts Point Alliance, serving underprivileged Bronx children and families.

Last year, Heather donated over a million dollars of vegan food to children and families in the Bronx area and has also taught weekend cooking classes.

It was rumored months ago that Heather was looking in the NY area to open her vegan restaurant, but after V Bites in the UK opened its doors, many assumed Heather was done for awhile.

Thank goodness she’s like the vegan Energizer Bunny and shows no signs of stopping.
