John Salley

John Salley can be seen on various billboards in the Detroit area as part of a campaign by VegMichigan, a non-profit organization promoting a plant-based diet for better health of people, animals and the environment.

“We’re excited to have a star like John Salley to help show that vegans are real people,” says Paul Krause, president of VegMichigan. “Vegans are healthy, vibrant, compassionate…and a growing segment of the population.”

Venus Williams is the new proud franchise owner of a Jamba Juice.

The Daily Caller took time to interview the vegan tennis champ, where she expressed much excitement on her new entrepreneurial adventure.

PETA Top 10 Vegetarian Friendly Minor League Ball Parks

Hammond Stadium

In addition to its list of top vegetarian friendly major league ball parks, PETA has given a shout out to the best minor league ball parks for vegetarian fans to find something other than popcorn and peanuts to snack on during the big game.

Fort Myers Miracles’ Hammond Stadium came in first again this year with selections like, “veggie burgers (with optional vegan cheese), veggie tacos, veggie dogs, a veggie Philly sandwich, a fruit-and-vegetable tray, and vegetarian baked beans.”

Citizens Bank Park

PETA has released its list of top vegetarian friendly major and minor league ball parks and the Philadelphia Phillies Citizens Bank Park hit a home run with favorites like “vegan chicken-steak sandwich, veggie “pit beef” smothered in barbecue sauce, an Italian vegetable grinder, and ever-popular veggie dogs and black-bean burgers.”

Just because the Phillies came in at #1, doesn’t mean your favorite team doesn’t have a host of great vegetarian fare to choose from. Here are some of the most interesting and/or delicious combinations Vegetarian Star picked out from the top 10 list.

Roy Halladay, pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies, has filmed a promotional video for spaying and neutering pets for the Humane Society of the United States.

“As pet owners, we can help end the suffering of millions of dogs and cats,” said Halladay at the beginning of the video PSA. “Animal shelters struggle to assist the huge numbers of animal litters; many more suffer on the streets, never reaching the safety of a shelter. My family does our part in making sure our pets are spayed and neutered.”

Mary Whipple, U.S. Olympic rower who at the Beijing 2008 games helped her team snag its first Gold medal since 1984, is heading for London next week to defend the title.

“Before workouts, smoothies are my go-to,” Whipple told Diets in Review. “In the morning I add egg white powder for protein, banana, kale and any seasonal fruits with almond milk.”

Not everyone on the Women’s Rowing team may be vegetarian, but that hasn’t stopped them from indulging as a team in something suitable for even Whipple.
