Obama Signs Law Against Military Use Of Animals For Training

President Obama has signed a law that will require the Department of Defense to create new ways to train military members without the use of real animals.

The goal is to replace live animals with simulators that mimic humans as closely as possible.

Russell Simmons Animal Hero Kids Award Accepting Nominations

Russell Simmons has lent his name to an award sponsored by Animal Hero Kids Inc. that recognizes adolescents using creativity to bring awareness to animal welfare.

The Russell Simmons Animal Hero Kids Award is currently accepting nominations and will continue to do so until October 31, 2013.

The award will be presented in December 2013.

Nominees must be 18 years of age or under at the time of nomination and “promote the humane treatment of animals through song, dance, rap, poetry, story, art, photography, video or other artistic or creative medium.”

Jane Goodall Takes Dog Along To Tournament Of Roses Parade

Jane Goodall served as the grand marshall of the 124th Tournament of Roses Parade.

Riding in the carriage with her were representatives from her youth program, Roots and Shoots, which focuses on getting adolescents excited about conservation and other environmental issues.

Goodall had one other companion along with her for the ride–a good friend helping to bring awareness to the animal population that’s waiting to be adopted.

The R&B teen hearthrob was criticized for handing what was formerly his pet to a a young girl at a music event in Atlanta.

According to Female First, Bieber told the young girl to take care of his pet Pac, which he gave to her in a cage.
