Chrissie Hynde‘s co-owned Vegiterranean vegan restaurant in her hometown of Akron, Ohio is celebrating Halloween in the kindest of manners this year.

Saturday, October 31, the restaurant will host a pumpkin carving contest from 5PM to 7PM. The entry fee is $10 and proceeds go to Happy Trails Animal Sanctuary, which, according to its website, “is a non-profit (501c3) organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and provides an adoption program for abused, abandoned, and neglected farm animals such as horses, ponies, pot belly pigs, farm pigs, chickens, ducks, turkeys, sheep, goats, and cattle. Happy Trails serves the entire state of Ohio, and works in cooperation with county humane societies, animal protective leagues, and local and state law enforcement officers.”

Prizes will be awarded.

Later at 7PM, the restaurant will have a fall Harvest dinner, then a Halloween costume party of 9PM, with appetizers, drink specials and prizes awarded for best costumes.

The Vegiterranean is located at 21 Furnace Street in Akron, Ohio.

Bob Barker Signs Copies Of "Priceless Memories"

Bob Barker has donated a million dollars to his alma mater, Drury University, to establish a program for animal rights, the Dorothy Jo Barker Professorship for Animal Rights.

Named after his late wife Dorothy, the program will offer studies on various animal rights issues.

“At the very least, the students who take this class will have more respect for animals,” said Barker.

“It’s taught by 6 professors all experts in their field,” said professor Dr. Patricia McEachern. “There’s no other class like this in the United States”

This isn’t the first time Barker has teamed up a higher education institute to educate others about animal welfare.

Earlier this year, Bob donated a million dollars to the University of Virginia Law school to establish an animal law program.

Sigh. A million here. A million there. Bet the animals are thankful they’ve got a wealthy man on their side.

Kudos to Bob! Keep up the great work!

Michelle Obama appeared on The Jay Leno Show and revealed the first pup, Bo, feasted on a doghouse shaped cake made of veal.

Ugh!

And you thought it couldn’t get any worse after the Obamas turned down the opportunity for a shelter dog.

We can’t think of a more unhappier celebration than a cake made from animals that are taken away from their mothers at birth and confined in small crates where they can’t move around.

It’s an industry so cruel, even some meat eaters swear off baby animals.

"I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here!" Press Conference

He may already be viewed as a disgraced politician, but former Illinois governor  Rod Blagojevich really went to the dogs for a Halloween contest recently.

One dog owner dressed up his dog to resemble Blagojevich, complete with black toupee, for the event that benefited PAWS Chicago, Chicago’s largest non-profit, no kill humane shelter.

The event was sponsored by luxury pet boutique Tails in the City.

PAWS Chicago is the shelter that Oprah Winfrey chose to adopt her recent four legged additions.

Take a look at the video and decide for yourself.

Can this doggie take Blago’s place in the House?

2009 Whitney Museum Gala - Arrivals

MTV‘s Alexa Chung has just admitted she likes to collect dead animals.

The British TV host is vegetarian, but that’s the only place she keeps dead flesh away.

“[I collect] dead things, but I’m a vegetarian, so it’s a bit hard,” Chung said.

“I got a dead alligator head in New Orleans.”

It gets creepier, as Alexa reveals that certain animals are on her “hit list” anyway.

“I don’t mind if I hate the animal.”

“Alligators and spiders I don’t mind being dead.”

Huh?

What’s this, some weird “Don’t kill the cute animals” set of principles?
