“You know, a lot of people talk about, “we should do this” or “we should do that”. Well, we actually follow those footsteps by making the world’s most biodegradable album using all recyclable materials, printing with soy ink, using a corn plastic disc tray… and then we took it a step further by doing green “off the grid” performances where we’re rerouting the standard power sources with biodiesel generators and using alternative energy. On the animal front side of it, I’ve done a lot of work with organizations like PETA, Farm Sanctuary, Last Chance for Animals, and the Humane Society. I’ve actually gone as far as being on the Senate floor in Boston to try and help pass laws with those organizations.”

The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society has severed its ties with Pete Bethune after learning he brought bow and arrows along with him on a mission.

A letter written by Sea Shepherd deputy chief executive Chuck Swift on the organization’s website explains the decision to part with Bethune.

“The bow and arrows revealed to be on the Sea Shepherd vessel Ady Gil, and in the possession of Captain Bethune on that ship, are absolutely not in line with Sea Shepherd’s policy.”

“Even though we know Captain Bethune’s objectives were sincere, that the bow and arrows were never used in Sea Shepherd actions and that he certainly never intended to use the bow and arrows against any person, his decision to bring them on a Sea Shepherd campaign is unacceptable.”

The Strikeforce MMA fighter and pro boxer has posed in this PETA ad against animal cruelty that reads, “Pick on someone your own size. Report animal abuse immediately.”

In an interview with the group, Noons said, “If you see an abused animal, think of it if it was your dog or your cat and how that would make you feel, you know, so you should feel that about every type of animal that’s abused.”

Moby interviews with KCRW on his co-edited book Gristle, veganism and zoonotic diseases.

“Almost every big global pandemic starts with confined animal production,” he said.

A more recent example of this is swine flu–the disease used to make its way through pigs on farms before it got smarter and infected humans.

The musician also touches on the benefits of a plant based diet for athletes, stating that carbohydrates and protein are easier to use than those found in meat.

Moby’s interview starts at minute 22:14, but there are several clips during this program that are relevant to vegetarians, including a segment on school lunches, polenta and a restaurant that only serves mac and cheese.

Bob Irwin

Bob Irwin suffered a heart attack in March, and has used the opportunity to re-evaluate his priorities. The father of the late Steve Irwin says he wants to focus on environmental conservation and caring for injured wildlife.

One area of animal welfare that concerns him is Australia’s wild dogs, known as dingoes. Current laws prohibit people from feeding the dogs, citing that feeding them makes them less fearful of humans and more likely to attack. But Irwin is disturbed by the numbers of thin and malnourished dogs he sees and wants other options to ensure their health and survival.

Lea Michele Feels Bad For Eating Fish

The fact that Lea Michele calls herself a vegan, but still occasionally eats fish does annoy. After all, we’re only asking that she use to word pescatarian and avoid the Eco-Worst ones.

However, the Glee actress doesn’t consume Charlie without guilt, as Ok! magazine reported her as saying, “I feel bad about it because fish are animals too.”

Michele has previously stated the reason for her fishy breath was due to protein issues, but we can mouth off several dozen that don’t swim.

Any suggestions?
