Woody Harrelson has always been supportive of eco-friendly initiatives. He once climbed the Golden Gate bridge to protest forest destruction and drives around in a VW Beetle that runs on biodiesel.

Although he is a vegan and raw foodist, he’s not the only one into a healthy lifestyle. His wife, Laura Louie, is his former assistant and a co-founder of Yoganics, an organic food delivery service.

They live in a neighborhood with their three children where everybody does it solar style. “Everybody in the neighbourhood is on solar power,” he said in an interview. “People get the concept that it’s like a commune, but this was a neighbourhood that’s been there long before I got there, and they just never wanted power lines.”

Veggie Man Alec Baldwin Wins First Emmy!

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, September 24th, 2008 in Actors.

60th Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles

This man deserves a vegan, eco-friendly bowling bag!

Alec Baldwin has been what Susan Lucci was for Hollywood awards for a long time: Always nominated, never won. That changed a few nights ago when he won his very first Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for “30 Rock.”

Break out the wine and vegan cheese!

Baldwin has played both lead and supportive roles in several veggie films, including “Meet Your Meat,” PETA’s documentation of slaughterhouse conditions, hosting the premier of Blinders, a documentary on the negative effects of horse drawn carriages, as well as a public service announcement for PETA on behalf of animals used in the entertainment industry.

Congrats to Alec, and continue with the good work!

Meatless Silver Screen: Joaquin Phoenix Refused To Wear Leather For Movies

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, September 16th, 2008 in Actors.

Joaquin Phoenix (pronounced “WAA-keen”) took the named “Leaf,” as a child, reportedly because he had a little sibling rivalry and wanted a more “earthy” name like his brother and sister, Rain and the late River Phoenix.

He’s an actor who’s starred in films such as “Walk The Line,” the story of Johnny Cash, and once said that making movies involved a lot of manipulation:

“Making movies is a constant manipulation. You manipulate the environment. You make it rain when you want it to. You manipulate actors. And as an actor, you try and manipulate your feelings to match what you think you’d be going through in a situation where your character is going through something.”

One area he refuses to be manipulated in, however, is his personal beliefs. He refused to wear leather for many screen appearances, including going barefoot during a Prada shoot because the shoes were made of leather. He’s also requested fake leather for costumes in movies like “Gladiator” and “Quills”.

Keenen Ivory Wayans Likes Mom’s Red Beans And Rice

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, September 10th, 2008 in Actors, Food & Drink, Videos.

Keenen Ivory Wayans made us laugh in movies like White Chicks and the T.V. series In Living Color. Some of his favorite vegetarian meals include hearty vegetable soup, pasta primavera, and his mom’s red beans and rice. You gotta love a man who lists his mom’s cooking as the best, right? Watch this video to hear him give mom’s dish the kudos and promote the Physicians Committee For Responsible Medicine, an organization of doctors practicing what they preach-eating vegan and advocating it for the rest of us.

2007 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show - Arrivals

I don’t wanna wait…For the tempeh special to be over.

James Van Der Beek and his wife Heather Combs were reported to have had lunch at a vegan restaurant in Beverly Hills, according to Starz Life.  He’s known best for his role of Dawson on the 90s T.V. series Dawson’s Creek. We really wish we had more details…but we don’t.

Yes, it would have been nice to know the name of the restaurant and what they ordered. We’re not even sure that ol’ Dawson and his gal are vegetarians. But one thing we know for sure: It’s darn cool.

It would also be interesting to know what purpose that pole is doing there. Might make a completely different celebrity story. Do you guys have any suggestions?

A list of top vegetarian friendly rehabs has been released by PETA and several of the centers have catered to many celebrities, including Mel Gibson. While we don’t know if any of these celebs actually requested non-meat meals during their tenures, we definitely know where Amy Winehouse’s next stop should be if she decides to go vegetarian. Here’s what she might enjoy:

Passages (California): Hummus, tabouleh, pasta primavera, vegetarian lasagne, wild mushroom pasta, vegetarian tacos and burritos, and veggie burgers. Mel Gibson stayed here.

The Meadows (Arizona): Tofu, veggie burgers, and vegetarian casseroles. Kate Moss, Eric Benet, Mike Tyson, Elle McPherson, Tara Palmer-Tompkinson, Paul Gascoigne, Ron Wood, Kerry Katona, Michael Barrymore, and Whitney Houston have all done rehab time here.

Cottonwood de Tucson (Arizona, yes the The Grand Canyon State has 2 of the favorites!): Baked rigatoni with spinach, wasabi mashed potatoes with snap peas, veggie pizza, veggie fried rice with spring rolls, portobello mushrooms stuffed with polenta, vegetable tostadas, green corn tostadas. Ron Wood, Geri “Ginger Spice” Halliwell, and Robbie Williams have all said, “Yes, yes, yes,” to here.

1,2 Pam Anderson’s Coming For You…7,8 Better Get Veg Straight

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008 in Actors, Actresses, Not So Vegetarian.

Premiere of

Ahh…He’s so cute…I’m going to get him.

This is almost getting kind of creepy. Celebrities who promote meat had better beware: Pamela Anderson will be on you faster than a vegan cheetah who shuns Cheetos.

We all know by now how she feels about Jessica Simpson’s wardrobe preferences and she even sent her written information on how meat is bad for the environment. Her next stop is Matthew McConaughey’s door-or shall we say his freezer.

The southern boy actor and recent father has become a spokesman for the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and has done ads urging people to eat more red meat. Not too good.

“He is so cute, how can he do that?” said Anderson. I’m going to send him a letter.”
