Forest Whitaker Advocating Falafel Cart Can Ease NY MTA Hikes

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008 in Actors.

GQ Magazine Hosts The Gentlemen's Ball - Arrivals

New Yorkers are in an uproar over the fare hikes and service cuts the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) has approved in its 2009 budget.

One man expressed his feelings personally by attempting to throw a shoe at Chief Executive Elliot Sander-mimicking the Iraqi reporter who threw his shoes at George W. Bush, before being escorted out.

People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), being the peace and goodwill promoting organization it is, has offered to help solve this problem so hopefully Chief Sander will only be dodging snowballs this winter.

They would like to purchase advertisement on MTA that would allow riders to hear pro-vegetarian testimonials by vegetarian actors Forest Whitaker, Casey Affleck, and Kevin Nealon.

Fantastic idea, but why not take it a bit further. Along with the personal testimonial, include shout outs as to where to find the food. Something like,”I’m Forest Whitaker and I’m a vegetarian. Check out the Falafel cart at 46th and 6th, may make the advertisement dollars go further.

You can listen to each celebrity’s announcement over at PETA’s blog.

Will Smith New Movie Is Seven Pounds Of Vegetarian Goodies

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, December 20th, 2008 in Actors, Actresses, Videos.

Will Smith and cast arrive at the premiere of Columbia Pictures' 'Seven Pounds'

Someone involved with the making of Seven Pounds must have a freezer stocked with Boca Burgers.

The movie starring Will Smith, about a man who dramatically changes the lives of seven people, has more vegetarian themes in 1 hour and 58 minutes than you’ll probably see at a granola bar serving hippie fest.

First there’s Ezra Turner, played by Woody Harrelson, who sells frozen steak over the phone, but doesn’t eat his own products. Wonder if any real life meat purveyors follow this rule as well?

Then there’s Rosario Dawson’s character, Emily Posa, who’s not only a vegetarian, but insists her dog be one as well.

Finally, there’s a scene where the word “vegan” is prominently displayed on a hospital chalkboard.

Mere coincidence? Subliminal veggie propaganda? Watch the video below for the scene where Emily explains to Will Smith’s character Ben Thomas her dog is vegetarian. If you can’t view the video, head over to Trailer Addict for other viewing options.

Rajneesh Duggal Finds France A Foe When Needing Meatless Food

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, December 18th, 2008 in Actors, Bollywood, Food & Drink.

240_rajneeshMark Ruffalo isn’t the only actor to experience the horrors of finding good vegetarian food while traveling abroad.

Rajneesh Duggal, Bollywood actor who made his debut in the film, 1920, survived on steamed rice and vegetables for five days from a Chinese restaurant located across the street from the hotel he was staying in Paris, France, because he couldn’t find vegetarian food elsewhere.

But that’s nothing compared to his dining in experience with colleagues at an Italian/French cuisine restaurant.

Poor Duggal couldn’t find anything vegetarian on the menu.

“All my friends began ordering non-vegetarian food, while I was busy seeking for some vegetarian food in the menu, but all in vain. I was starving and seeing them enjoying the food made me even more hungry.”

His friends, who no doubt felt sorry for him as they chowed away on their meaty entrees, suggested he find something with eggs or fruit. Finally, after discussing with the waiter his problem, the restaurant chefs had specially made Banana crepes prepared.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie leaving 'Changeling' premiere in New York City

“You find all kinds of things written about you that you don’t have the foggiest notion where they came from. I’m not a vegetarian. I love sushi and stuff like that. I do have to watch my fat intake, because I’m 78 years old.”
—Actor Clint Eastwood, in an interview with Canoe, on the rumors circulating the Internet that he is a vegan and/or vegetarian. We recently learned he practically fainted after learning of the rumor that he was a vegan. Apparently, he wants to make sure you know he’s no darn vegetarian either.

Well, excuse us, sushi man!

Ellen Pompeo, Hubby Chris Ivery Munch On Veggie Burgers

Y-3 - Front Row - Spring 09 MBFW

Sandra Oh must have gotten Ellen Pompeo hooked on veggie grub since she took the cast of Grey’s Anatomy to Truly Vegan, an L.A. vegan restaurant a few months ago!

Ellen was spotted with her hubby, Chris Ivery, at L.A.’s Kitchen 24 eating veggie burgers.

As we brought you the news before, the entire Grey’s group Sandra took really enjoyed their vegan restaurant experience, including Patrick Dempsey, who couldn’t get enough vegan chocolate cake and Ellen, who returned to the spot several times after her first experience.

Whether or not Ellen Pompeo has “gone veg wild,” has not been determined. But it’s safe to say she’s got a thing for it!

Pauly Shore Not Vegetarian, But Whole Ribs Too Hardcore

The Cinema Society Hosts Screening Of

What’s with the wiki and other sites lately? Yes, we know they’re not law, but really, there’s been some wacky incorrect facts floating around.

First, we learned that Clint Eastwood is not only NOT a vegan, but had to have the definition of one explained to him, which resulted in a look of horror resembling a pet that knows it’s going to be spayed or neutered.

Now, we’re learning that Pauly Shore, actor best known for hosting MTV shows, is one of the falsely accused as well.

An excerpt from a recent interview with Memphis Flyer:

I heard you were a vegetarian. Is that true?

No. I love steak once in a while, just very rarely. I need my protein. I’ve got to stock up, you know.

So are you going to munch on some Memphis barbecue while you’re here?

Oh, I don’t know. I’m kind of sketchy on barbecue right now. Like, the whole ribs and shit, it’s kind of hardcore.

Hmmm. Since Pauly says he eats steak every once in awhile, but “whole ribs and shit” is hardcore, maybe he’s a flexitarian?

Update Wikipedia, update everyone. And keep your computers on standby ’cause you’ll probably be updating again soon.

Halle Berry, Jessica Biel, Jude Law All Looking Lush These Days

Written by Vegetarian Star on Sunday, December 14th, 2008 in Actors, Actresses.

15th Annual Women In Hollywood Event - Inside

When a celebrity associates themselves with a cruelty-free product you can’t help but get excited, even if the star isn’t vegetarian.

Lush is a collection of handmade cosmetics that are never tested on animals, vegetarian, and some are even vegan. The UK company’s products have been used by stars such as Halle Berry, Jessica Biel, and Jude Law.

Yes, Jude Law. Cosmetics just aren’t for the gals, you know. Lush has shaving cream, plus all sorts of moisturizers an eco-friendly man needs. Because even though nicking yourself with a razor may hurt, the pain an animal feels in a cosmetic laboratory is far worse.

Lush cosmetics make a great stocking stuffer for holidays gifts this year. Be sure to send this link to friends and family so they’ll know exactly what you’re looking for.

Clint Eastwood Has Vegan WTF Moment

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, December 13th, 2008 in Actors, Not So Vegetarian.

The 2008 Kennedy Center Honors in Washington DC

Clint Eastwood has appeared on one of PETA’s Go Veg brochures with the quote attributed to him, “I try to stick to a vegan diet heavy on fruit, vegetables, tofu, and other soy products.”

Um…no, not really. In a recent interview with the New York Times, he stated he is not and has never been a vegan and looked rather disturbed when he was told what a vegan was, as if being a vegan was equivalent to castration.

“I never look at the Internet for just that reason,” he said.

Understandable. If you’re a celebrity it may be painful to read some of the stuff written about you. Just imagine what would have happened if Clint read his was a raw foodist!

The rumor that Eastwood is a vegan has shown up in a lot of places, including Wikipedia and other vegetarian and vegan sites.

But don’t let this tarnish your visions that there aren’t tons of vegan celebs out there, including the macho manly ones like Eastwood.

Ultimate fighter Mac Danzig can still kick carnivore butt. And since his girlfriend does a lot of cooking for him, it’s safe to say he’s far from being castrated.
