Daryl Hannah, Ed Begley Jr. Have Fabulously Green Homes

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, June 30th, 2009 in Actors, Actresses, Environment-Eco-Green.

Daryl Hannah - who was arrested and cautioned in West Virginia this week - at Andas in West Hollywood for 944 Magazines 10th anniversary party

Treehugger.com has compiled their list of celebrities with the best green homes and two vegetarian stars, Daryl Hannah and Ed Begley Jr. are on the list.

If you have the privilege of visiting Daryl, you might chill on her moss covered stone that doubles as a couch in her almost entirely solar powered home.

And if you think Daryl’s moss couch is wild, Ed Begley Jr. gets really crazy with a white picket fence made from recycled milk jugs!

Have lunch with Ed with food cooked from his solar powered oven which sits outdoors and be sure to check out his rain water barrels while (hopefully) someone else is doing the cooking.

Premiere Of Sony Pictures Classics Rachel Getting Married - Arrivals

Several vegetarian and vegan hip hop stars will be making guest appearances in the film, In Pursuit Of A Green Planet, a documentary on food choice, health, and the planet.

In the film, Keith Tucker travels the country on a Greyhound bus powered by recycled vegetable oil while he makes the transition from eating the average American diet to a totally organic, vegan one.

Tucker brings along some adolescents who are already experiencing diet related health problems and are at a crucial point to change their lives forever. Not only do the kids get lessons in making themselves and the planet healthier, they get the privilege of meeting some awesome veggie hip hop stars along the way, like Saul Williams, Persia White, Justin Bua, Stic Man, and KRS One.

According to hiphoppress.com:

“The goal of the “Pursuit of a Green Planet” documentary is to take an inside look at how the food we eat affects our health and tie healthy living back to the origins of Hip Hop. As Hip Hop was a pioneering art form for the urban community looking for a better life in the late 70s, “Pursuit of a Green Planet” brings those ideals full circle by incorporating Hip Hop into the Green Movement.”

Both Andy Dick and Russell Brand aren’t exactly known for their choir boy behaviors. Andy’s had his share of drugs, arrests and was thrown off stage on Jimmy Kimmel Live when he couldn’t stop touching Ivanka Trump.

Russell shares Andy’s drug history, has bragged to the pubic about having relations with more than 80 women in one month and was forced to resigned from the BBC after making prank phone calls to actor Jonathan Sachs’ home, bragging about “shagging” his granddaughter.

That didn’t stop Russell from making the front page of a Vegetarian Starter Kit and Dick’s still up to his antics, dressing as Ronald McDonald and protesting McDonald’s method of killing chickens.

They can’t be that bad, huh? So between the two naughty boys, who would you rather do…

Leona Lewis, Eastenders’ Scott Maslen Voted PETA’s Sexiest

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009 in Actors, Female Singers.

Herve Leger By Max Azria Collection Launch Party

Leona Lewis has once again, topped the charts in the PETA Europe division of Sexiest Vegetarian, along with Scott Maslen from the Eastenders in the male category.

Leona was chosen as last year’s winner, and definitely hasn’t been resting on her laurels.

The singer is working on her own vegan shoe and handbag line, as well as a cruelty-free perfume.

“I am vegetarian so I don’t have clothes, shoes or bags made from leather or suede or any animal products. … I’m on a mission,” she said.

Actor Scott Maslen loves making a veggie spaghetti without the meatballs.

“My favourite dish is vegetarian spaghetti Bolognese,” he said. “I make it with meat substitute, it’s delicious”.

Sadly in life, there are winners and losers. Although everybody loves Leona and Scott, somebody’s favorite surely was defeated.

Which veg celeb were you rooting for?

Since Leona took it two years in a row, should there be politician term limits to let somebody else have the title in the future?

Welcome To Gulu Exhibition Opening

Alec Baldwin was the honorary auction host at the EcoFabulous in the East End dinner and silent auction which benefited Group for the East End, an environmental group that works to protect and restore the environment in Eastern Long Island.

Alec filled up that evening with a vegan salad appetizer, which was prepared by local chefs, with local food to keep the theme green.

While auctioning off a stay at Casa de Campo, a Dominican Republic resort with three golf courses, Alec made a joke that the best way to preserve green space is to turn them into golf courses.

Ha, haaaa, Alec!

We’re sure Baldwin’s combined humor and the cause the East End Group works towards made the evening a blast.

Andy Dick dressed as Ronald McDonald in a PETA protest against McDonald’s in Chicago recently.

PETA wants the company to stop its archaic method of killing chickens, which PETA says is done by electric immobilization.

There is a more humane way to kill, called Controlled-Atmosphere Killing, which involves cutting off the animal’s oxygen supply, causing them to lose consciousness with little to no pain.

“McCruelty, I’m Hatin’ It!” shouted Andy and the other protesters.

Jeremy Piven Claims He’s Fish Free, Says “Don’t Blame Fish.”

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, June 20th, 2009 in Actors, Food & Drink.

The Malibu Lumber Yard Opening - California

After a bout with mercury poisoning last year, actor Jeremy Piven says he’s hasn’t eaten fish in 10 months.

“I’m a lot better,” Piven told PEOPLE. “What basically happens is when you work your whole life without stopping like I’ve done, you end up in the hospital. Basically, I had a cardiologist say your body is trying to catch up and it can’t. I had a resting heart rate of 47, something called arrhythmia, along with all the mercury poisoning.”

Piven claimed that years of being a “fish eating vegetarian,” caused him to get sick.

If Piven claimed to be a fish eating vegetarian before, but has dropped Flipper from the plate, has he picked up other animals instead? It would be great if Piven learned a lesson and is now following a totally vegetarian diet.

He alleged his illness caused him to drop out of a play production, Speed the Plow.

Piven gave a public service announcement about fish and wanted everyone not to blame them.

“By the way, for the record, it’s the not the fish’s fault. It’s a man-made problem. It’s all the mercury being dumped. Women shouldn’t eat tuna, especially when you’re pregnant.”

Goodness, he’s almost sounding like an environmentalist now.
