Leonardo DiCaprio

Leonardo DiCaprio has written a letter to the California State Senate in support of Assembly Bill 376, which would ban the sale of shark fins in the state.

In addition to being backed by dozens of celebrities like Megan Fox, Rachel Bilson and Ben Stiller, the bill is supported by the Humane Society of the United States, Wild Aid and Natural Resources Defense Council.

If you’re the frugal type, you might be interested in knowing that spending your money on “organic, vegan food” like Steve may very well be the best way save a nickel or two. The folks at Good.is–who happen to be doing a 30-day vegetarian challenge–have compared vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian and meat-eating diets in terms of what one might spend on breakfast, lunch and dinner. One day’s worth of meals for a vegan was $11.15, but a meat eater put out a whopping $14.65!  Don’t know about  you, but we can think of plenty of ways to use that extra $3 a day…like spending it on more delicious vegan food.

Mike Binder

Actor, writer, director and producer Mike Binder has finally opened his Coney Dog restaurant in West Hollywood, a stop for all treats native to his hometown in Detroit like dogs, Faygo pop and Better Made Chips.

Binder’s wife and daughter are both vegetarian, which prompted him to put veggie dogs and other items on the menu.

Ricky Gervais has joined fellow actor Owain Yeoman in the fight to convince British store Fortnum and Mason to remove foie gras from its shelves.

Gervais has written a letter to officials at Fortnum, asking them to stop selling the delicacy that is obtained by forcing ducks and geese to overeat so much their livers swell abnormally.

British actor Dominic West, known for his role in the HBO series The Wire, wants to keep factory farms out of Britain.

Midlands Pigs Producer would like to create a large-scale farm housing 2,500 sows and 20,000 piglets in Derbyshire, a move West says threatens human health, the environment and small farmers supporting both themselves the community.
