Quantcast Vegetarian StarRicky Gervais Joins Campaign To Ban Fortnum And Mason Foie Gras

Ricky Gervais has joined fellow actor Owain Yeoman in the fight to convince British store Fortnum and Mason to remove foie gras from its shelves.

Gervais has written a letter to officials at Fortnum, asking them to stop selling the delicacy that is obtained by forcing ducks and geese to overeat so much their livers swell abnormally.

“I have been a customer of your store for many years and I consider it a great British institution. I am however, saddened to hear that despite the extremely unethical processes involved in obtaining it, you continue to stock foie gras.”

“The goose is continually overfed through a large pipe, which is forced down its throat.”

“This causes the defenceless animal’s liver to swell to several times its normal size.”

Gervais has lent his support to a variety of animal welfare campaigns, including a ban on bullfighting in one region of Spain.

Gervais has described himself as “nearly vegetarian” in the past.
