Irish Joan Jett Might Like Seitan Guinness Stew

Joan Jett‘s real last name is Larkin and there are a lot of Duffys in her family, according to a recent article in the Irish Times.

Yep, you can go ahead and kiss her!

It’s a good assumption that Joan doesn’t partake in the traditional Irish meals of stew made from lamb or mutton, bacon and cabbage, and coddle (pork sausages and rashers).

If you’re kissable like Joan, or at least thinking of visiting the country, Irish Vegetarian, is a must stop for ideas for restaurants, health food stores and lodging. It also includes recipes.

Don’t forget you can veggie most Irish meals at home with faux meats, like the “Beef” and Guinness Stew made with seitan. There are also several already vegetarian Irish dishes that often contain cabbage and potatoes as a main ingredient.

Knut may look as calm as cucumbers in this photo, but a representative from PETA says he and his polar bear mates in the German zoo are stressed, and are suffering from panic attacks and repetitive behavioral movements.

“He (Knut) and his companion Gianna are definitely displaying behavioral problems,” said Frank Albrecht, a zoo expert for PETA’s German branch who also recommended the two not get it on because they are so closely related.

Albrecht, along with the animal rights group, is calling for an end to breeding polar bears in captivity and keeping them in German zoos, period.

Albrecht and PETA claim that of the 34 polar bears in captivity in the 11 German zoos, between 75% and 90% show signs of being disturbed.

“I am not perfect — 90 percent was all I could do. Every bit counts!” Marie told People’s Celebrity Baby Blog.

Marie is constantly looking for ways to make that 90% a 91, 92 or even higher by reading Greenopia, a one stop guide to everything green from household products, foods, pet products, jewelry and product ratings.

Marie’s main targets for greening the baby’s room included the paint, which was low or no VOC, the mattress–made with natural rubber, and clean air.

Friday at 9PM the Discovery Channel will feature Kentucky based Bourbon Barrel Foods in an episode of How It’s Made. The company makes soy sauce from Kentucky grown, non GMO soybeans, soft red winter wheat, and limestone filtered Kentucky spring water. The soybean is aged in repurposed bourbon barrels.

Besides using local ingredients and used materials, Bourbon Barrels has a Worcestershire sauce that is vegetarian! If you didn’t know already, most Worcestershire sauces contain anchovies and are definitely not veggie friendly.

“Getting the chance to be on this show, I was beside myself,” Bourbon Barrel Foods owner Matt Jamie told the Louisville Kentucky Courier Journal.
