Avatar picked up a Golden Globe this past week, but it also won the favor of People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals.

PETA has awarded James Cameron a Proggy (short for progress) Award for the movie’s message about, “the importance of treating all living beings, no matter how ‘strange’ or ‘alien,’ with respect and dignity.”

“We hope viewers will come away from ‘Avatar’ with a new way of looking at the world around them and the way we treat our fellow earthlings,” PETA Senior Vice President Lisa Lange says in a statement. “For helping animals with the positive message of this film, James Cameron is PETA’s ‘King of the World.'”

BabyCakes LA–A Sweeter New York Bakery

The LA offshoot of Erin McKenna‘s bakery for vegan, gluten-free and sugar free desserts, BabyCakes, has been open for a couple of weeks now.

If you had the opportunity to visit the New York bakery and are expecting the same delicious animal free yumminess, you’re in luck.

But be prepared for a few extras in terms of the store’s environment, according to McKenna’s blog.

“Although we wanted to recreate what we have in New York, we knew it was crucial to let this bakery be free to be itself. We wanted it to have it’s own life and personality so we just let it flow. This bakery’s got more room than New York–4 tables and chairs to rest your weary legs and a gasp-inducing vintage oil painting of two poodles with bouffants (thank you Bridget!). Of course we have Stumptown Coffee.”

Head over to the downtown LA bakery at 130 East 6th Street and rest your weary legs as you sink your teeth into a Red Velvet cupcake.

Nicole Polizzi, aka Snooki from MTV's popular Jersey Shore , joins her castmates at STK in LA

Nicole Polizzi, aka “Snooki” from Jersey Shore hung out with friends at STK in LA recently, covering up in this black furry looking coat.

If you know your Jersey Shore, you know Polizzi is an aspiring veterinary technician.

That’s why The Veg Star is hoping Snooki is already showing her concern for animals by wearing a fake fur coat.

It must be hard enough for a vet worker to put a sick or injured animal to sleep, but to know one died only for the sake of fashion?

Dr. Doolittle would be crying  his eyes out, confiding to the backyard squirrels.

Take a closer look and decide for yourself.

Is Snooki fur real?

Or is she faking it?

LIONSGATE PREMIERES THE SPY NEXT DOOR

Cute kids from movies is a guaranteed winner, but cute kids who already know to make good dietary choices are almost too much to handle.

Alina Foley, a child star in the new Jackie Chan movie, The Spy Next Door, is only six years old, but has been a vegetarian for 2 and a half years.

Peta2 had the opportunity to chat with this brilliant little girl who says, “the best thing about being vegetarian is that you’re saving animals’ lives.”

Alina even has suggestions for getting vegetarian food in school lunches.

Would have loved to swap lunches for some tofu jerky with this girl in grade school.

2010 Winter TCA Tour - Day 2

Eric Stoltz admitted to Mother Nature Network that he first became a vegetarian just to annoy the rents.

“Because I loved animals, and it pi**ed off my parents, which I loved,” Stoltz said.

After following the diet for 25 years, Stoltz has realized there are other benefits besides making mom and dad fuming mad.

“It was a myriad of reasons that kept snowballing over the years,” he said and described his diet as the “greenest way to live.”

Forbes Publisher Rich Karlgaard Praises Vegan–“The Engine 2 Diet”

Forbes Magazine

Rich Karlgaard, publisher of Forbes magazine since 1998, pays his premiums to the best health care plan in the world–a vegan diet.

Karlgaard took to his blog to discuss how eating mostly vegan helped him shed pounds and shared his thoughts on what the typical vegan is like.

It’s not just for the hippies, you know. Even the three piece suits on Wallstreet can enjoy soba noodles.

“The notion of a vegan diet is repellent to a lot of men and especially conservative men,” Karlgaard said. “If you’re like me, your mental picture of a “vegan” might be that of an eco-hippie or a PETA purist or someone who eschews deodorant as well as meat. That’s increasingly inaccurate.”

Along with the stereotype of vegan men, Karlgaard bashes the notion all veggies live in southern California.

One well known vegan book by Rip Esselstyn proves that.

“If you want to learn more about vegan diets without the annoying eco-lecture that often goes with it, I recommend The Engine 2 Diet. The author is a former pro triathlete and now a firefighter in Texas.”

“Vegans in Texas? Heck, yes.”

Blake Lively “You Know You Want It” Stella McCartney Boots

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, January 20th, 2010 in Actresses, Fashion.

'You Know You Want It' by Eric Daman Book Party!

Blake Lively wore a pair of thigh high faux leather Stella McCartney boots to the launch party of the book, You Know You Want It: Style Inspiration Confidence by Eric Daman.

Damon is the costume designer for Gossip Girl.

These boots look so snug and comfy, they must feel like second skin.

It’s great that Lively chose to wear Stella’s cruelty-free fashion, instead of taking another animal’s skin.

This completely makes up for Blair and Serena making fun of seitan months ago.

Wonder if Daman is just as ethical on the set of Gossip Girl.
