Environmental Media Awards 2009

Woody Harrelson admitted that a woman’s advice to give up dairy cured his acne and made his face as smooth as a baby.

Apparently, Woody has been so excited about his beauty routine, he shared it with Alanis Morissette.

“I’ll never forget my friend Woody Harrelson telling me I needed to get rid of the dairy in my fridge to clear up my skin,” Alanis said. “He was right. My skin looks great now.”

Woody has quite an influence over the veg celebrities, as he even encouraged Alicia Silverstone to get naked more often.

Ahem…In the garden, that is.

Alanis changed her entire lifestyle after picking up a copy of Dr. Joel Fuhrman‘s Eat To Live, and says she now focuses on high nutrient foods like “fruit, nuts, collards, kale, and spinach.”

“One of my favorite things to do is to pick a food, like kale, and get some fresh from the farmers’ market, then look up different recipes with it as an ingredient, make all those recipes, and decide which is best.”

Kristen Bell, in an Q & A session from the January 2010 issue of Vegetarian Times.

Paul McCartney has narrated a video for PETA which documents the conditions factory farmed animals endure.

And unlike most PETA ads, he does all this while keeping his clothes on.

“I’ve often said that if slaughterhouses had glass walls, we’d all be vegetarians. Animals raised on modern factory farms and killed in slaughterhouses endure almost unimaginable suffering,” McCartney says.

“I hope that once you see the routine cruelty involved in raising, transporting and killing animals for food, you’ll join the millions of people who have decided to leave meat off their plates for good.”

Paul covers animals crammed in cages on farms, pathogens found in meat products, the risk of diseases like Mad Cow and the impact meat production has on the environment.

Staind singer Aaron Lewis is becoming a locavore.

But don’t get too excited, because the only local food he’s harvesting requires gutting and draining of blood.

Lewis said after watching the documentary Food Inc., he’s come to appreciate the value of harvesting his own food.

“I have never killed anything that I did not eat,” Lewis said. “Even when I was a kid with a BB gun, being all irresponsible and shooting squirrels and robins, my dad made me eat it all. I’ve always believed if you kill something, you have to eat it, so you better make sure it tastes good. I hunt white-tailed deer. That is my favorite. I have also hunted turkeys and have done upland bird hunting, too, like pheasants and quail.”

Now, Lewis wants to showcase his, ahem, talents on television by participating in The Outdoor Channel‘s reality TV hunting show, Dream Celebrity Season.

The program will pair celebrities with everyday hunters and compete against each other as teams.

Perhaps they will also choose team names like “Cruel and Crueler” or “Cheney and His Next Victim.”

Lewis went so far as to say “Bring It On” when questioned about possible negative reactions from anti-hunting and animal rights groups.

Hope Lewis never says that to any of those Missouri deers that sometimes fight back.

Of course, vegetarians motivated by environmental reasons would argue that killing your own food doesn’t damage the planet like factory farmed meat.

Are you a veg that wouldn’t mind eating animals killed in the wild quickly, painlessly and that didn’t go to waste?

Paul McCartney gives a press conference at the European Parliament - Brussels

London was recently named the best city in the world to eat vegetarian by PETA, and musician and singer Paul McCartney couldn’t agree more.

”After 40 years of touring as a vegetarian, I’m proud to say that when it comes to eating, there’s no place like home.,” McCartney said, according to The Telegraph.

McCartney has also recently narrated a documentary on slaughterhouses and the effects of the meat industry on the environment for the animal rights group.

Restaurants and other food establishments in the city offer a plethora of meat-free options, even going so far as to put a “V” beside menu items, noting if the dish is vegan or not.

London mayor Boris Johnson said the city has a “history of vegetarianism” and mentioned that it was great to be the “best city on earth to enjoy meat-free nosh.”

”We are helping to cultivate a taste for all things veggie by supporting green-fingered efforts by all Londoners to grow their own fresh fruit and veg,” Johnson said.

Catherine Zeta Jones–Fur Real Or Fur Fake

Catherine Zeta-Jones leaves her Manhattan home on her way to her Broadway play

Catherine Zeta Jones stepped into the chilly New York weather arming herself with a long fur coat.

Catherine will be starring in the upcoming Trevor Nunn production of A Little Night Of Music.

A Little Night Of Music is great, but a little fur trim is horrible.

If that’s a real fur Catherine’s wearing, it’s more than a trim, but The Mask of Zorro actress surely knows anyone voted one of the most beautiful people will land on the ugliest list for wearing a hide that’s not hers.

Is Catherine making a bad fashion statement by wearing a cruel real fur coat?

Or is she faking it?

Paul McCartney gives a press conference at the European Parliament - Brussels

“This isn’t just me, a vegetarian, banging on: it was a United Nations report … that got me interested. There’s a need to do something: the livestock industry produces more greenhouse gases than all forms of transport put together. People are confused about what they can do — they can try one meat-free day a week. It’s kind of interesting once you get into it.”

—-Paul McCartney, addressing a crowd at the European Parliament last week in Brussels, Belgium, promoting his Meat-Free Monday campaign.

Getting into going meat-free may be an occasional treat to start.

But who knows?

After awhile, you may find it so hot, you’ll wanna do the veg thing every day.
