Avril Lavigne Eats Lots of Olive Topped Pizzas

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, August 22nd, 2008 in Female Musicians, Female Singers.

Premiere Of Nokia Productions' Spike Lee Collaboration Film

While it’s true that some stars credit eliminating certain foods from their diet to better performance, Avril Lavigne’s vegetarian intentions are not about enhancing her singing.

“It’s a lifestyle,” she said.

Much of her lifestyle centers on eatings lots and lots of pizza topped with olives.

“Yes, it’s true. I love pizza. There’s a pizza joint in Napanee, Ontario, where I would go during lunch break from school, and I would eat as much pizza as I wanted. They named a pizza after me.”

With Sk8ter Boi girl being only 5’3″ it’s hard to imagine walking in and ordering the “Xtra-Large Avril Lavigne.”

Pamela Anderson’s Top Vegan Restaurant List

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, August 22nd, 2008 in Actresses, Food & Drink.

Pamela Anderson Press Conference Ahead Of Big Brother Appearance

Pamela Anderson is quite the vocal vegan, but when she’s not calling a particular carnivore b$%ch or wh#$e, she can be found giving more positive reinforcement, such as letting everyone know where the best vegan food establishments are in L.A.

“Los Angeles is the easiest place in the world to eat vegan,” she told the LA Times.  A lot of people know about the great meatless entrees at Real Food Daily and Newsroom Cafe, but there are some other places that have very unique menus.”

So if you’re in L.A. with some non veg friends and need to munch at a place that’s not as well known for tempeh, Anderson has been kind enough to point you in the right direction.

Pure Luck:

Fried pickles, vegan sloppy joes and BBQ sandwiches. And they cook with jack fruit, which is an amazing fruit they use to make the mock meat tangy.

Astro Burger

If you are a fast food junkie you can always count on the Astro Burger on Melrose near Paramount Studios for veggie chili dogs and soy chicken fajitas.

If you read the rest of Pamela’s list, you can actually vote on whether or not you think she knows what she’s talking about, at least when it comes to good vegan food.

11th Annual ACE Awards - Inside

Oops! This time it was Jessica,  not Britney that did it again. It was really just a booboo guys…

We actually have a little bit of sympathy for her. Poor Jessica Simpson has taken a lot of beatings from vegetarians and animal rights groups for making a the serious waldrobe malfunction of wearing a “Real Girls Eat Meat” T-shirt.

She said in an interview that she wasn’t surprised by the actions people took after she wore the shirt and that she really loves vegetables-she just loves meat too.

“I love vegetables but I could not be a vegetarian. I wish I could but I really do like meat. And yeah, I caught a lot from that but I just wore the shirt because I thought it was funny, I didn’t know that it was going to be so offensive to so many people. Oops.”

Pat Neshek Thinks Healthier Food Will Someday Be Easier To Find

It’s always nice to see your students grow up and do so well. Former Butler University baseball player Pat Neshek grew up and joined the Minnesota Twins for a successful pitcher career. He suffered a slight setback with an injury a few months ago, but unlike Amy Winehouse, has a pretty good attitude about rehab.

The former student took time to talk to his former coach, Steve Farley at Butler, about injuries, rehab, and sticking to the veg diet. Neshek thinks it’s still hard to find decent vegetarian food away from home.

What has been the hardest part of the re-hab process?

“Watching the team play every night from the clubhouse or on TV if they are on the road. It drives me nuts not being able to contribute in a tight pennant race like this. Another thing that has been tough is not knowing what is going to happen with my arm. I like to plan things, and this injury is making it tough to tell when I might be back.”

Have you stuck with the vegetarian diet?

“Yep.”

How has that been going?

“It’s been going great. Even before I got hurt a lot of the cities we went to have great places to eat, so it wasn’t too bad on the road. I packed a lot of food with me in my suitcase before road trips for the tougher cities like Detroit. My wife has been great about cooking, and I don’t think I would make it too far without her. I think the toughest thing about it that holds back a lot of people is the convenience factor – you really have to go out of your way to eat good in this country. Hopefully over time more and more people will learn the truth about the food that is being served up and make the switch. I think this way healthier food will be easier to find.”

Propagandhi Describes Factory Farm Visit Nightmare

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, August 21st, 2008 in Animal Issues, Bands, Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Propagandhi is a Canadian punk band known for taking stances in a lot of activism issues, including human and animal rights. We’ve only sampled a little of their music, so we’re not sure if we’re going ot put this in our staff CD collection or not. However, with demos with names like, “We Don’t Get Paid, We Don’t Get Laid, and Boy Are We Lazy,” it might be entertaining to look into.

Here’s a video with 2 of the band’s members discussing their reasons for going veg, including a chicken factory farm nightmare visit. They also see vegan as the natural next step after becoming a vegetarian.

Some celebs in the running include Alicia Silvertone, Benjamin Zephaniah, and Emily Deschanel for best vegan celebrity. For vegan musicians, Moby, Chrissie Hynde, and Russell Simmons are vying for the title. And Mac Danzig, who thinks PETA is sooo junior high is competing for best vegan athlete.

But there are many other benefits to making us a write-in candidate, such as you winning fake leather bags, and vegan bakery goodies such as chocolate and veg marshmallows in the prize pool.

Ellen And Portia Fed Each Other Vegan Wedding Cake

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, August 20th, 2008 in Couples.

59th Annual Emmy Awards - Arrivals

Longtime sweethearts Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi married in Los Angeles this past weekend.

“What can I say? I’m the luckiest girl in the world,” said DeGeneres to People magazine. “She’s officially off the market. No one else gets her. And now she’ll cook and clean for me.”

Perhaps that cooking will include more tempeh for the happy couple.

Although the two are not vegetarians, Ellen is rumored to have been one in the past and still very supportive about veg issues. Which may be why the two decided on having a completely vegan menu for the wedding reception, including vegan red velvet cake.

You can pick up a copy of People magazine this Friday to see more wedding pics!
