Owain Yeoman, Veg Celebs Give Funniest Meat Eater Comments

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, July 18th, 2009 in Actors, Actresses, Female Singers, Models.

BAFTA/LAs 2nd Annual British Comedy Festival

What’s the most ridiculous thing an omnivore ever asked you? Was it the “do you eat chicken?” question?

Philstar.com has compiled some information on several vegetarian celebrities, including why they went veg, favorite restaurants, frustrating moments as a vegetarian, etc.

Owain Yeoman, Geneva Cruz, Yasmien Kurdi, and Pamela Anderson are all profiled.

Here are a few highlights from the “Funniest Thing Ever Said To Me By Meat Eaters” question:

Owain Yeoman
“Someone once asked me if I wasn’t concerned that vegetarianism will “stunt my growth” and at 6’4” and 190 pounds, the last thing I am worried about is my growth being stunted!”

Pamela Anderson
“It’s pretty funny when a meat eater tells me that he or she is an environmentalist. The meat trade is the number one cause of global warming!”

Geneva Cruz
““WHY?!!!!” My answer is “Why not?!!” There.”

Yasmien Kurdi
“I can’t think of anything specific, but what I’ve told meat eaters is if they want to contract swine flu, bird flu, and all those other animal-borne diseases — or if they want to die an early death — then they should eat meat! Hahaha! I know it’s a bit harsh, but I like to be direct when talking about animal issues and I think this makes meat eaters seriously rethink their diet … though outwardly we laugh about it.”

Redman lost weight going vegetarian and avoiding McDonald’s, so he might teach you a few tricks to conquer those nasty cravings for vegan, but still high in calorie cookie cravings.  Method Man has all the skillz for keeping your face pretty, as he recommends eating baby soy, or edamame, because of its skin purifying qualities. So between the two hip hop stars, who would you rather do…

Alice Walker Trades Pig Eyes For Plain Water During Sickness

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, June 29th, 2009 in Animal Issues, Authors.

Broadway Opening Of The Color Purple - After Party

Alice Walker recently blogged about her experience with a naturopath doctor and natural treatments, one of which included medicine made from pigs’ eyes.

In discomfort, Alice, a vegetarian, tried the remedy for awhile, but eventually couldn’t block out the images of the animals she was putting in her body.

“One time she gave me a remedy made from pigs’ eyes, but that was as extreme as it got, and she had misgivings, being, I think, vegetarian. I took the pills for a while, in desperation, but couldn’t keep it up because of a mental image of a pig whose eyes twinkled at me. When I told her what had happened, she chuckled and said, Well, drink lots of water.”

The debate over the use of animals for medicine will probably never end until we have found a way recreate any animal “part” or devised a method for testing the effects of pharmaceuticals on humans without using laboratory animals.

Some are absolutely against any animal use or testing in medicine, while others keep their morals by ensuring they purchase pills manufactured without gelatin.

Where do you stand on the issue of animals and medicine?

Premiere Of Sony Pictures Classics Rachel Getting Married - Arrivals

Several vegetarian and vegan hip hop stars will be making guest appearances in the film, In Pursuit Of A Green Planet, a documentary on food choice, health, and the planet.

In the film, Keith Tucker travels the country on a Greyhound bus powered by recycled vegetable oil while he makes the transition from eating the average American diet to a totally organic, vegan one.

Tucker brings along some adolescents who are already experiencing diet related health problems and are at a crucial point to change their lives forever. Not only do the kids get lessons in making themselves and the planet healthier, they get the privilege of meeting some awesome veggie hip hop stars along the way, like Saul Williams, Persia White, Justin Bua, Stic Man, and KRS One.

According to hiphoppress.com:

“The goal of the “Pursuit of a Green Planet” documentary is to take an inside look at how the food we eat affects our health and tie healthy living back to the origins of Hip Hop. As Hip Hop was a pioneering art form for the urban community looking for a better life in the late 70s, “Pursuit of a Green Planet” brings those ideals full circle by incorporating Hip Hop into the Green Movement.”
