Corey Feldman’s Grandparents Thought Vegetarianism Was Nuts!

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, March 25th, 2009 in Actors, Animal Issues.

Premiere Of Walt Disney Pictures Race To Witch Mountain - Arrivals

Actor Corey Feldman has some genes that make him love animals, as his mother was an animal rights advocate. Good for him for having such a compassionate mother, because grandma and grandpa thought vegetarianism was just plain tipesh!

Note: Hebrew vocab 101. Tipesh is the word for dumb, idiot, stupid…you get the point.

From an interview with Look To The Stars.org:

“By the time I was 10 years old, I was resigned to the fact the I wanted to be a vegetarian for the rest of my life. However, growing up in a strict family environment, my grandparents where old Jewish traditional type people and thought I was crazy for wanting to be a vegetarian. It took until I was about 13 years old when I made the decision to be a strict vegetarian… and have been every since, and it’s been about 24 years for me now.”

Growing up, Feldman and his mother had as many as 50 animals living with them on their ranch as a result of their obsessive dog and cat rescuing tendencies.

Nowadays, Corey lists animal rights organizations such as the Humane Society, PETA, Farm Sanctuary, and Last Chance For Animals as his top choice for charities.

Russell Brand To Have Hot, Veggie Date With Lisa Simpson?

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, March 24th, 2009 in Actors, Comedians, Pop Culture.

Russell Brand Signs Copies Of Russell Brand: My Booky Wook

Executive producers of The Simpsons, James L Brooks and Al Jean, would like to write comedian and actor Russell Brand in the cartoon show.

Al Jean said Brand was “very funny”, and added, “I would definitely be interested in writing an episode around him.”

In addition to Brand, Brooks and Jean want President Obama too.

We’re thinking Brand could have a date with Lisa Simpson.

After all, they both follow the same diet, and Brand wouldn’t be the first vegetarian celebrity Lisa meets on the show while dodging Homer’s love for lamb chops.

It was the help of Paul and Linda McCartney that helped Lisa maintain her veggie lifestyle in carnivorous loving Springfield.

It’s high time Lisa found herself a veggie mate. We just can’t picture her having dinner every evening with Milhouse.

See what happens when you follow us on Twitter. We write a post about you.

We’re just tickled pick that actor Larry Sullivan reads us. And even more tickled that we found out about him.

Sullivan, who Tweets @larrysullivan, is a vegetarian who’s had roles on “24,” “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” (wonder if he shared a veggie snack with Jorja Fox) “The Secret Life of the American Teenager,” and “Grey’s Anatomy,” to name a few.

According to Vegan.com, after seeing one of PETA’s Kentucky Fried Cruelty’s billboards, he went on the Internet to do his research and realized he couldn’t possibly not be a vegetarian.

“Hours later, I was still at the computer crying like a baby realizing what I had been a part of for so long. I made the decision right then that I was going vegetarian. The timing was perfect. What better New Year’s Resolution than that! So New Year’s Day 2006 was the day my life (and the lives of many animals) changed for the better!”

Awesome Larry! Congrats for being in the exclusive Hollywood veggie club.

Larry Hagman, Hall Of Fame Honoree, Spent $1 Million Going Solar

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, March 11th, 2009 in Actors, Environment-Eco-Green.

30th Anniversary Reunion Of

Larry Hagman, the actor who became famous for playing J.R. on Dallas, is set to be inducted into the Texas Film Hall of Fame, along with other celebrities like Billy Bob Thorton, Powers Boothe, and Catherine Hardwicke.

We think it’s time we put him in our little green veggies hall of fame.

Hagman is a vegetarian who is really into solar energy. Like, to the tune of a million dollars that he invested to make his homes run on that sunny stuff!

According to Coolerplanet.com, his 25,000 square foot residence gives him an annual energy bill of only $13.

He’s shares his goodies, too.

Since his system provides more than what’s necessary to power his pad, he also supplies solar power to five neighboring homes.

A healthy eater, environmentally conscious, and giving all in one package. Not hard to understand why his wife of 54 years, Maj, has stuck around for this long. You’d be hard pressed to find a man this good, ladies.

Congrats to Larry! Keep up the green work!

Steve-O, born Stephen Glover, was known for pulling  dangerous junior high pranks on the MTV show “Jackass.” Now, he’s back on television, this time doing the rumba, waltz, and other dances with professional partner Lacey Schwimmer on the ABC television series, Dancing With The Stars.

And according to various sources, including his sister, Steve-O will be one vegetarian dancing with the stars.

Several reports from the web, like Steve’s blog, mention that he became vegetarian over the recent years.

He did an anti-fur ad for PETA back in 2007. If your memory fails you, here goes…

Milo Ventimiglia Surrounded By Chicks For Vegetarian Ad?

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, March 7th, 2009 in Actors, Videos.

Scratch or Spin: The Great DJ Debate Presented by PATRON

“Heroes” stars Milo Ventimiglia and Greg Grunberg recently did a “Heroes Exposed” commentary, where Milo announced someone had wanted him to do an ad for vegetarianism with him surrounded by baby chickens with the caption, “Chicks Dig Me.”

Sounds suspiciously like a similar “Respect Chicks. Go Vegetarian,” campaign PETA Asia Pacific ran with Yasmien Kurdi.

What do you guys think? Is Milo joking around or do you think he was approached by PETA and asked to do a vegetarian ad?

If anything, Mr. Peter Petrelli needs to do one of those skin baring ads like Jamie Bamber did, chicks or no chicks, promoting vegetarianism, right ladies?

Milo once joked that he’s been a vegetarian since he was in his mother’s womb, since mom was veg while she was pregnant with Milo.

You can view the video of Milo and Greg doing the commentary. Milo starts talking about the vegetarian ad around minute 31:00.

Thomas Dekker Terminated Meat Chronicles At 12

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, March 6th, 2009 in Actors.

FOX All-Star Party At The Pier - Arrivals

Thomas Dekker plays the somewhat “golden child” John Connor on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. But unlike other special children, being marked doesn’t work in his favor, as it targets him for assassination by a “Terminator” named Cromatie.

The episodes involve routine activities in any teen boy’s life, like running away from the killer robots with mom, pretending you’re not a weirdo at school, and blowing up and burning other robots.

And how about that hot good Terminator robot, Cameron Phillips, played by Summer Glau? Giggity, giggity. Ahem…moving on to vegetarian news.

Thomas has been a vegetarian since 12 (he’s 21 now) and an encounter on a pig farm gradually led him to remove all meat from his diet.

From the March 2009 issue of Vegetarian Times:

“When I was about eight years old, I stumbled on a pig factory. After seeing what went on there, I immediately gave up all pig products. Then, four years later, I asked myself the obvious question: “Why am I not eating pigs, but still eating other animals?” So at that point I gave it all up.”

We’ve heard of shunning red meat first, then becoming vegetarian. And then there are people who go vegetarian before going vegan. But to give up pig products, then give up the rest of animals is quite a different way to go. Awesome that it worked for Thomas!

Pick up the latest issue of Vegetarian Times on the stands to learn what Thomas’ favorite veggie dish is. Hint: It includes pasta and Tofurky sausages.
