Kim Basinger Urges Russia’s Putin To Release Whales Into Ocean

Kim Basinger, actress, vegetarian and animal rights’ activist, has written a letter to Russia’s president Vladimir Putin, asking him to release whales being held in captivity in the country.

A recent decision by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) ceased the importation of Russian beluga whales to the Georgia Aquarium and its Seaworld Affiliates.

Basinger wants Putin to take what she feels is the next natural step in animal welfare progression and release the whales in his country into the wild.

He regularly interviews entertainers, artists, policy makers and other movers and shakers in the industry, so an chat with Dan Mathews, vice-president for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, seems perfect for the station’s format.

The two discuss all of the standard issues PETA aims to cover, such as fur and animal testing, but when it comes down to getting the audience really interested, let’s face it–you have to talk about vegan desserts.

Mathews does get an occasional sweet tooth and can tell you exactly where to satisfy it.
