“I love to encourage people to rescue animals. All things animal rights is really where my heart is. I’ve been a passionate vegan for three years. Anything from animal out of my diet. Same thing goes with my clothes and everything else. I really got into it because I love animals, and then it turned out it’s actually the healthiest for us, too.”

Steve-O, who’s still making people laugh with his stand-up comedy shows that don’t involve using animals as props.

“Everyone should dramatically simplify their life and reduce their spending because there’s going to be less expendable income. I’m pretty careful. I drive the cheapest car Nissan makes and I rent a two bedroom apartment in Glendale. What I spend money on is organic, vegan food.”

Steve-O, to Fox 411 Poptarts.

If you’re the frugal type, you might be interested in knowing that spending your money on “organic, vegan food” like Steve may very well be the best way save a nickel or two. The folks at Good.is–who happen to be doing a 30-day vegetarian challenge–have compared vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian and meat-eating diets in terms of what one might spend on breakfast, lunch and dinner. One day’s worth of meals for a vegan was $11.15, but a meat eater put out a whopping $14.65!  Don’t know about  you, but we can think of plenty of ways to use that extra $3 a day…like spending it on more delicious vegan food.
