Stephen Colbert Congratulates Sea Shepherd For Ending Whale Hunt (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, February 17th, 2011 in Animal Issues, Film & TV, Humor, Videos.

Stephen Colbert took time to congratulate anti-whaling activists and all of those associated with Sea Shepherd after the recent announcement that Japanese whalers have suspended the annual hunt in the Antarctic due to so much interference by activists.

As he wags his finger at “environmentalist blubber huggers,” Colbert understands why whales would be targeted.

After all, they’ve “swallowed our biblical prophets,” like Jonah,  “boy puppets” like Pinocchio and taken”prime sunbathing spots at the beach.”

It’s a shame, because the whalers were only killing them for research purposes, such as finding out what “teriyaki blowhole tastes like.”

The suspension, in addition to the reduced numbers of whales being brought back every year as a result of the Paul Watson lead organization’s tactics, is another sign that Sea Shepherd is accomplishing its mission.

Japan has suspended whaling in the Antarctic until further notice due to the extensive actions performed by anti-whaling activists, Sea Shepherd.

Sea Shepherd sails the seas where whalers hunt and uses tactics such as throwing rancid butter on the whaling ships in an attempt to slow down and stop whaling. These protests are the basis for the popular Animal Planet show, Whale Wars.

The hunt was halted on February 10th, but this isn’t the first year Sea Shepherd has thwarted the performance of whalers.

Ewan McGregor is rumored to play Paul Watson in an upcoming film on the anti-whaling activist’s life, “Ocean Warrior: The Paul Watson Story.”

McGregor will portray Watson’s life during his earlier days of activism with Greenpeace and starting the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.

Watson seems pleased with the film’s producer’s choice for him, as he wrote about it on a site about enviornmentalism.

“I think he will do a good job, although I would love to see long time Sea Shepherd supporter Christian Bale take the part. As for a leading lady my favourite actress has always been Sophie Marceau, but the choice is not mine unfortunately.”

Michelle Rodriguez Postpones Sea Shepherd Tour (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010 in Actresses, Animal Issues, Videos.

Michelle Rodriguez has postponed her work with the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society because she wants to spend more time in the ocean and her filming schedule now is preventing that. “I have to go work. I have to go make some money — because I want to do three months,” Rodriguez says in this video. “I don’t want to go for a month and sit around and look cute.” The LOST and Avatar actress discusses how she grew up in an animal-loving vegetarian family and has kind words to say about Sea Shepherd Captain Paul Watson. “I love Paul. I’ve heard about him since the Green Peace days. He’s been an activist for many, many years. I guess I’ve just always been interested in learning from him…I gotta lot to learn from the guy.” Rodriguez’s lesson will be put on hold until next year as well as fans’ opportunity to watch her in action. Watch the video below for Rodriguez’s wish for all dolphin and whale hunters. (more…)

Meatless Mouthful–Paul Watson’s First Activism Memories

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, September 7th, 2010 in Animal Issues, Meatless Mouthful.

“I was raised in an eastern Canadian fishing village right on the Maine border, called St. Andrews. I used to swim with these beavers in a beaver pond when I was 10. I went back when I was 11 and found there were no more beavers. I found that trappers had taken them all so I became quite angry and that winter I began to walk the trap lines and free animals from the traps and destroy the traps. So that was really my first venture into activism.”
