The Octomom has just bought 15 more minutes of fame.

Nadya Suleman signed a deal with animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals to promote spaying and neutering pets to control the animal population.

It’s pretty easy to figure out why Suleman was chosen as the “it” girl for the campaign.

Suleman has agreed to put a sign in her front yard that reads, “Don’t Let Your Dog or Cat Become an Octomom. Always Spay or Neuter.”

In exchange, PETA is paying Suleman $5,000 and a month’s worth of veggie burgers and hot dogs.

A month’s worth of veggie burgers? Hey, hey, hey, there’s space in our yard too, PETA.

Suleman accepted the offer through her lawyer, Jeff Czech, who is also in the process of refinancing a whopping $450,000 payment due on her home two weeks ago.

NFL: Super Bowl XLIV-Super Bowl Breakfast

Who wants to see Michael Vick naked?

You don’t have to raise your hand just yet, but the people at Playgirl magazine have already put money on the table for Vick to bare all if he donates $1 million to PETA.

“I sent the request to Michael Vick on Wednesday,” Daniel Nardicio, Playgirl rep tells Life & Style. “But we haven’t heard back yet.”

“I figured he paid back society for dog fighting, but what about the animals?” said Daniel.

“This way he could donate a large sum to PETA and all he’d have to do is pose for the magazine! It’s kind of a win-win situation!”

For a real win-win situation, Vick could keep his clothes on and Playgirl could still donate money or time to animal causes.

Vick has voluntarily partnered with the Humane Society to  help deter youth from participating in dog fighting activities.

Temple Grandin Praised By PETA

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, February 11th, 2010 in Animal Issues.

2010 Winter TCA Tour - Day 6

The story of Temple Grandin is depicted in a new HBO movie starring Claire Danes.

Although not a vegetarian, Grandin’s work in animal behavior resulted in her designing more humane methods to apply to the livestock industry.

PETA’s president and co-founder Ingrid Newkirk has written a piece in the Sacramento Bee on Grandin’s work.

A few highlights:

“I admire her work in the field of humane animal slaughter. PETA would prefer, of course, that no animals be killed for food, but we won’t ignore the horrors of factory farms and slaughterhouses just because we wish that they didn’t exist.”

“Throughout her career as an animal-science professor at Colorado State University and a consultant to the American Meat Institute, Grandin has worked to improve animal-handling systems at slaughterhouses – markedly decreasing, although never able to stop completely, the amount of fear and pain that animals experience.”

“This may seem like a small victory – the cows are still going to be killed after all – but until the day that we get animals off the dinner plate altogether, is it too much to ask that we do everything we can to reduce the fear and suffering that they experience in the slaughterhouse?”

Super Bowl Commercials PETA Approves (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, February 9th, 2010 in Animal Issues, Athletes-Games-Sports, Film & TV, Pop Culture, Videos.

This year’s Super Bowl featured a variety of commercials that focused on using animation and other technologies to replace the use of live animals that may otherwise be overworked and thrown into an unnatural environment.

PETA may have had their fornicate with vegetables Super Bowl ad banned, but they aren’t bitter about it, and give credit to some great animal friendly commercials, including this Whales of a Tale: Bridgestone video.

“Three friends. One animatronic whale. Millions of happy viewers. Bridgestone also gets extra kudos from us for recently banning the use of endangered animals in all of its commercials!”

Plus, there’s nothing more entertaining than a beaver than plays the fiddle in the Monster.com commerical, right?

Ingrid Newkirk Vegetarian Indian Food Suggestions

PETA’s co-founder and President Ingrid Newkirk recently addressed an audience on vegetarianism while attending an environmental conference on economic sustainability in Mumbai.

Someone in the audience raised a hand and asked, “If I become a vegan, what can I eat?”

Here’s how Ingrid responded to the individual, from Huffingtonpost.com:

Being a lover of Indian food, I could only say this:

Papad, chapattis,

Dumplings and naan,

Channa and rotis,

Onion uttapam,

Masala dosa,

Green callaloo,

Gourd and samosa,

Corn and aloo.

Shalgam, bryani,

And channa masala,

Tomato soup…

A diet of Indian food is one of the best ways to remain vegetarian, as many of the dishes consist of lentil, grains and vegetables.

And if you’re not a master in the kitchen, there are even microwave versions of the ethic cuisine, such as any of the Amy’s entrees of Mattar Tofu or Vegetable Korma.

Not to mention how impressed your taste buds will be with the use of flavorful spices like curry.

A night with friends and family at the Indian restaurant buffet and you might find yourself unbuttoning your pants from too many samosas.

As Ingrid said in her article, “I think we’ll survive without milk and meat. In fact, it may be the only way to help the planet itself survive.”
