Leona Lewis has finally made the transition to a completely vegan diet. It’s been about a month now and almost all is going well.

The only problem? She needs recipes!

In a recent Tweet, the Bleeding Love singer said, “I’ve been vegan for a few days now, I’m trying it for the whole month. Any recipes you can recommend?”

Leona Lewis Aims For Vegan Once A Week

You’ve heard of Meatless Mondays, a campaign encouraging people to eat vegetarian just one day a week.

Will we soon see a movement promoting less dairy and eggs, called Vegan Thursdays?

Leona Lewis told Modern Dog magazine that she eats vegan one day a week, in addition to being a vegetarian the other six days.

“I am a vegetarian. I don’t eat meat or any fish, and I do try to be a vegan at least once a week where I don’t drink milk or eat cheese or eggs. I’ve been a vegetarian since I was twelve.”

The dairy industry isn’t without environmental impact.

Research on Ireland farms found it takes 3.59 to 6.7kWh per cow each week for milking, with a large part of electricity use going towards cooling milk and heating water.

There are humane arguments to using less dairy, such as the conditions female cows in factory farms must endure when they are unable to move and forced to produce unnatural amounts of milk during their lifetime.

Will your next step in going green be to cut dairy during the week?

Portia de Rossi Wants To Launch Vegan Shoe Line

Written by Vegetarian Star on Sunday, January 18th, 2009 in Actresses, Fashion.

2009 Winter TCA Tour - Day 10

Portia de Rossi recently attended the Disney/ABC Television Group portion of the 2009 Winter Television Critics Association Press Tour where she announced she’s interested in starting her own vegan shoe line.

According to Fabsugar, Portia said she tries to wear leather as little as possible. Now she wants to make that even easier when it comes to footwear.

Not many other details were given, so we’re assuming the business plan is still in the draft phase and Portia hasn’t gotten her feet (pun intended) wet yet into the details.

But when she does, oh boy!

It was disappointing when Natalie Portman’s Te Casan shoes ceased production due to the recession, but with celebrities like Leona Lewis designing her vegan shoes and Portia dreaming big, your closet should be filling up again soon with awesome cruelty-free footwear.

Fingers crossed that Portia makes her shoes affordable as well.

Leona Lewis: Ethical Perfume Will Complement Vegan Shoes

Leona Lewis is set to launch her very own perfume, according to Pop Crunch.

The self-titled scent was produced with the Germany company LR, which adhered to Leona’s strict ethical standards.

A source revealed to British newspaper The Sun that, “Leona has had a lot of approaches about launching her own perfume, but she wanted to make totally sure she would be working with an ethical company.”

Leona is a vegetarian who won’t even wear leather or other animal products and is also working to launch her own vegan clothing and hand bag lines. Perfume makers often use animal ingredients as fixatives, which enable fragrances to evaporate slowly and emit odor.

Lewis played a big part in the perfume’s progress-from developing the scent itself to designing the bottle and packaging of the product.

She has already begun the process of promoting her scent, making a video for fans in Germany.

“I love my new fragrance and I already love LR,” she said.

The fragrance is set to launch later this year.

Still wearing fur? Maybe you should get yourself professionally evaluated, according to Leona Lewis.

“It’s such an old school way of doing things. I can’t begin to imagine that people who know all these animals have been killed to make a coat can still wear it. There must be something seriously wrong with them.”

Leona Lewis Told Harrods FUR-Get It

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, October 10th, 2008 in Female Musicians, Female Singers, Fur.

Leona Lewis has proved she can’t be bought.

The “X Factor” winner and British chart topping singer turned down an offer of over a million dollars from Harrods Department Store boss Mohammed Fayed to open a summer sale.

Why on earth would a celebrity turn down that much money, you ask?

It’s because the department store sells fur.

Lewis has made her vegetarian lifestyle very public and is even in the process of starting her own line of vegan, cruelty free clothing with Topshop. The World’s Sexiest Vegetarian, voted by PETA fans, doesn’t wear or own any items made with animal products.

It’s so refreshing to see a celebrity who’s publicly acknowledged their beliefs not give in when money talks. Or, in the case of a million, money screaming.

Other female celebrities who have opened sales at Harrods in the past include Eva Longoria, Christina Aguilera, Lucy Liu, and vegetarian who can only cook mince meat Victoria Beckham.

Should Leona Lewis Be Chatting With Todd Oldham?

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, September 29th, 2008 in Fashion.

Todd Oldman Book Signing

All of you, who decorated your dorm room with Todd Oldham furnishings a few years ago, listen up! Did you know that the maker of ever so affordable fashion is vegan? Well, you should at least know the items you’re purchasing with his tag are.

Todd Oldham is a fashion designer that has used his brilliance to create clothing and furnishings without the use of leather or other animal products. He’s also vegan and an animal rights activist and supports other humane causes, such as housing programs for those living with HIV and Aids.

He was fired after 3 months of working in the alterations department at a Polo Ralph Lauren boutique in Dallas, but then decided he could do better and well…the rest is history.

Oldham currently oversees clothing design for Old Navy, a division of Gap.

We think pop star Leonis Lewis should be giving him a call for a few pointers as she is in the beginnings of starting her own cruelty free fashion line.

Gotta run now. Old Navy’s got a clearance sale that ends tonight!

Yes, Leona Lewis, You Are Releasing A Vegan Fashion Line!

MTV Asia Awards 2008 - Arrivals

A lot of internet talk has been going on about Leona Lewis releasing her own line of cruelty free and vegan clothing. It’s finally official. The British “Bleeding Love,” star will do what Natalie Portman did and what Pamela Anderson wants to do now that she thinks Ugg Boots are Ugg-ly because they contain sheepskin.

On a recent video blog, she said, “I don’t wear leather or any animal products, so I want to bring out a line . . . I’m kind of the real beginning stages of it. I’m not sure when it will be out, but I hope very soon.”

Let’s hope they are as affordable as they are vegan so everyone can enjoy the pleasure of walking around in their own, and not another animal’s skin.
