Lisa Edelstein “House” Away From Home Isn’t Vegetarian Friendly

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, October 25th, 2010 in Actresses, Film & TV, Food & Drink.

As a vegetarian for 28 years, Lisa Edelstein has been through times when it was difficult to get something meatless while away from home. But who would have thought that in 2010, it would be hard to find something vegetarian on the set of House?

As Edelstein explained to Popeater, the producers of the show don’t have a large budget for food, and she often ends up bringing her own food to the set because “food is sort of crappy.”

Lisa Edelstein is normally what she calls a “cook-at-home person,” but when she does go out, there are few places in Los Angeles you can bet a slice of tempeh bacon on she’ll be dining at.

The vegetarian House actress shared her favorite spots with the LA Times, along with what she’s likely to order when there.

“Gingergrass on Glendale Boulevard — amazing Vietnamese food. It’s much more casual than Blair’s, but the food is delicious. I get the vegetarian pho. Inaka on La Brea and M Cafe on Melrose are also good for vegetarians. Inaka is macrobiotic Japanese, and it’s very healthful, clean food and extremely consistent. I’ve been going there for 20 years. M Cafe is a slightly more spicy and flavorful version of macrobiotic food.”

That’s a mouthful of great vegetarian friendly places to eat, but there’s more.

Olivia Wilde GQ October 2009: A Vegan Perfect Picture

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, September 17th, 2009 in Actresses, Food & Drink.

Vegan House actress Olivia Wilde is gracing the cover of the October 2009 issue of GQ magazine and she’s giving the vegs a darn good name.

Apparently before the interview, the reporter had this “fantasy” plan of how everything would be conducted, including Olivia eating veggie burgers at In and Out.

Um, In-n-Out has veggie burgers? Don’t see any on the menu.

“We’re going to shoot sloppy pool and play Galaga and persuade two burly Hells Angels on their Harleys to drive us to an In-N-Out Burger, where I’ll order the Double-Double and Olivia, a vegetarian, will have a veggie burger and maybe a few fries, because, you know, she’s drunk, and those fries are amazing. Then we’ll climb into the hills and scale the famous hollywood sign, where we’ll sit until sunrise on opposite sides of the giant H, and Olivia will grandly recall her adventures in show business before she throws up, as I hold her flowing brown hair.”

Fox’s Mental Starring Chris Vance Debuts With Animal Rights Clip

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, May 29th, 2009 in Animal Issues.

ACTOR CHRIS VANCE

The new Fox drama Mental featured an animal rights scene on its debut episode this week.

Mental features a psychiatrist named Dr. Jack Gallagher (Chris Vance), who arrives at a hospital with some unorthodox approaches to patient care (the first episode he got naked in front of his staff and the police to calm a schizophrenic man who was also naked. Yes, it gives a whole new meaning to the “put yourself in the patient’s shoes” motto.

Dr. Gallagher is like his sister (or rather brother) Fox TV Medical doc Dr. House without the attitude (and without the clothing?), as he sends his residents to patients’ homes and into their lives outside the medical office to investigate possible connections to their current illness.

Dr. Gallagher’s residents speak to the family of the schizophrenic man, one of which is a younger brother who happens to be standing on the street passing out pamphlets and discussing harp seals and global warming.

When CBS’ The Mentalist featured an animal rights protest scene, we suspiciously thought Owain Yeoman slid some dollars in the producers pocket to change the script a little.

But maybe network television is catching on that the veg and AR movement is more common than once thought. Or Yeoman is running down the street to ABC on his break and slipping dollar bills in their pockets too.

Either way, it’s good to see the AR movement being portrayed on network television in a positive manner versus a crime solving TV show with agents tracking down extremist who are burning buildings or worse.

Mental airs on Fox Tuesdays at 9/8c.

Who Would You: Omar Epps Or Noah Wyle (The TV Doc Edition)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, May 27th, 2009 in Actors, Polls/Surveys, Who Would You.

ER has closed its final hospital room curtain, but Noah Wyle’s presence on the set for years most certainly helped the show become an Emmy award winning hit. One less hospital show on the air leaves one less vegetarian actor who portrays a doctor, but have no fear, Omar Epps still graces the screen on House. Hospital cafeterias aren’t exactly known for their delicious food, so plan on getting your veggie burger or any other meal elsewhere. So between the two gentlemen, who would you rather do…

Vegan Olivia Wild Is #1 On Maxim’s Hot 100 List

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, May 18th, 2009 in Actresses.

American Casino premiere at the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival

Maxim recently unveiled its Hot 100 List and a vegan lady is numero uno!

Olivia Wilde, star on Fox’s House, tops the charts and beat out other meat eating woman like Megan Fox, Eliza Dushku, and Rhihanna.

Olivia made Maxim’s 100 Hottest women in 2008-but barely hanging on the ladder at #97.

We suspect her sudden rise to the top has something to do with her veganness. Really, we heard plant based foods do wonders for the hair and skin.

Olivia had been “mostly vegetarian” with the exception of a plateful of flipper here and there. Then, earlier this year, she made the announcement on Ellen DeGeneres she’d transitioned into a complete vegan.
