Quantcast Vegetarian StarGenesis Awards (2)

Operation Smile's 8th Annual Smile Gala - Show

Besides Boo Boo Stewart‘s raving about his mom’s Japanese style tofu, the Vegetarian Times was able to catch a few other celebrities at the Genesis Awards to find out what their favorite dish was.

Moby loves the vegan tacos at Real Food Daily as well as the vegan sushi at Souen in New York.

Nicole Lapin sounded as if she’s a fan of old fashioned comfort food, as she had plenty to say about the meals that were prepared during a “Fabulous faux” dinner party she hosted, featuring “you wouldn’t believe it’s vegan” versions of American dishes.

24th Annual Genesis Awards

The Genesis awards will air April 24 and 25 on Animal Planet.

During the ceremony, Vegetarian Times editor caught up with several celebrities to ask about their favorite vegetarian meals.

Boo Boo Stewart answered, “Tofu, my mom makes it all the time!”

For those that don’t have Boo Boo’s mom around (or any mother who will still cook for you once you’ve reached, oh, dunno 35 years of age or so) there’s help.

Renee Stewart explained all the details of her fabulous Japanese style tofu at the awards, with the best simplicity.

“Drain it; cut it in cubes; drizzle it with sesame oil and soy sauce; and sprinkle it with dried chives, sesame seeds, and dried seaweed.”

Yum.

Boo Boo should never move out of mom’s house.

Moby No Longer Self Righteous About Vegan Lifestyle

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, March 25th, 2010 in Animal Issues, Food & Drink, Male Musicians, Male Singers.

'The Runaways' New York Premiere

Moby is a reformed vegan.

Although in the past, he sometimes refused to speak to non vegans, he confessed at the Genesis Awards that he used to have a holier than thou attitude towards the non vegans until he realized that being a jerk didn’t do much for converting or saving any creature other than his ego.

During an interview with Grant Butler of the Oregonian, the musician said, “There are a lot of people in the animal rights movement who can be very passionate and aggressive, and I applaud people’s passion, but when people are judgmental and aggressive, all you end up doing is getting other people to turn away in irritation. To change people’s minds, you have to respect the people you’re talking to. Part of that is presenting the facts available, and not being pedantic or judgmental.”

So expect to see a passionate, but respectful character if you catch him on his Gristle book tour.

And if you accidentally wear your old pair of leather shoes you bought before you changed, rest assured you won’t be crucified.

We’ve touched on Michael Jackson’s “Earth Song” before, for which he won the Doris Day Music Award at the Genesis Awards in 1996.

The song was never released in the United States, but was a chart topper in the UK, even beating out famed hits like “Thriller” and “Beat It.”

The video depicts various scenes of basically humankind destroying the Earth-from pollution to war and famine to animal abuse.

Seal slaughter is an assault on both animals and the environment and Jackson features a short clip of one being clubbed by a hunter around minute 3:25.

Thanks to activism, Canadian Seal slaughters were down by 200,000 in this year’s hunt and history was made when the European Union voted to ban the trade of seal products.  In the past, Europe has been a target market for Canadian seal products.
