Carrie Underwood “In” For 2009, Jessica Simpson “Out”

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, December 17th, 2008 in Female Musicians, Female Singers.

Conde Nast Media Group's Fifth Anniversary Of Fashion Rocks - Show

The end of the year marks the making of lots of lists-resolutions, top or greatest events or people, and trends to look for in the upcoming year.

Carrie Underwood made PETA’s list for what’s “in” for 2009, and is obviously a stark contrast to her opposite of what is “out”, “Jessica Simpson.

Sure, they may both be beautiful blond babes who sing their hearts out, but as a vegetarian since her teens, Carrie’s got it going on where it counts.

Both have been considered, “sexy,” but Miss Underwood has won the title of Sexiest Vegetarian Alive. Still, waiting for Simpson to be crowned “Sexiest Carnivore.”

Lastly, Carrie definitely makes better judgement in fashion. We suspect Pamela Anderson will never leave Jessica alone for wearing her Real Girls Eat Meat t-shirt.

Congrats to Carrie. Better luck next time Jess.

Read the entire list to see who and what made the cut.

Chain, Chain, Chain: Emmylou Harris Says Only Fools Chain Dogs

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, December 16th, 2008 in Female Musicians, Female Singers.

Art Of Compassion Gala

Country music star Emmylou Harris extends her activism for animals far beyond her plate.

She runs a dog shelter in her native state of Tennessee and performed at a Best Friends For Animal Society event designed to raise money to help four legged creatures in all sorts of ways, including getting them adopted.

Now, she’s teaming up with PETA to remind everyone to get their pet spayed and neutered and invite them in your home instead of keeping them chained outside.

You can listen to Emmylou’s radio PSA if you’d like, and be reminded that for some of us, respect for animals goes beyond deciding not to put them in our mouths.

Jason Mraz Shies From Revealing Choco Avocado Masterpiece

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, December 16th, 2008 in Food & Drink, Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Hard Rock Calling Festival 2008 Day 1

If you’ve been keeping up with the news we bring you (and you should), you know that Jason Mraz switched to a raw foods vegan diet last Spring and is a homegrown avocado farmer.

He’s talked about his love for avocado before and mentioned it briefly with E!Online. When asked if he was an avocado expert, he replied:

“I like to think so. I certainly know how to choose them in a grocery store.”

Oh, Jason, Jason, Jason! You do so much more than choose the right ones in the grocery store.

Mraz has created his very own Chocomole, a chocolate mousse made with avocado.

Trying to be humble?

When he doesn’t have an avocado sweet tooth, Jason likes to cut them in half and sprinkle lemon juice on them before gobbling up.

Lisa Loeb Ate Corn Dog Without The Dog At Texas State Fair

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, December 16th, 2008 in Female Musicians, Female Singers, Food & Drink.

Icons Of Music II Auction At The Hard Rock Cafe New York

For 15 years, singer-songwriter Lisa Loeb thought she was allergic to corn. Turns out she wasn’t and she wanted to celebrate. So she ate a corn dog at the Texas State Fair-minus the hot dog, according to Dallas News.

The vegetarian best known for her hit song in 1994, “Stay,” is getting married soon, but is not naming the lucky guy.

She’s a Texas native, and she dressed up as Sarah Palin for Halloween, but her views don’t mirror those of the party in which the current President who shares the same state as her stomping grounds belongs. Her fiance went as Joe the Plumber!

While it’s great Lisa knows she can eat corn, we just can’t help but wonder if she could have celebrated with something other than a hotdogless corndog, which probably resembled a mere hush puppy. Like maybe corn on the cob? Seems similar to ordering a Big Mac at McDonald’s with just bread and toppings.

But who are we to argue with a Brown University graduate?

Eva Mendes Wants To Get Naked For Morrissey

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, December 15th, 2008 in Actresses.

Actress Eva Mendes (Hitch, Ghost Rider) has worn her birthday suit for PETA in the past and now she wants Morrissey to join her.

“I really want to do a PETA ad with Morrissey, I’d be happy to do it naked if need be.”

Although she is willing to show her buns for animal rights, she’s not sure if she should expect full frontal from the former singer of The Smiths.

“Whether Morrissey would want to get naked with me is another question. Maybe he could come up with something more creative than out-and-out nudity.”

Like maybe a fake chik’n patty covering up the essential parts?

Morrissey is an avid supporter of PETA as well as a vegan, so teaming up for the cause makes sense.

Mendes said she’s had a crush on Morrissey ever since she discovered The Smiths.

Morrissey, who is rumored to be talking to former Smiths member Johnny Marr about a reunion, is being presented with a lot of decisions lately. Reunionize with the boys, get naked with the girl…Tough choices, but someone’s gotta make them.

Pamela Anderson Tells Queen Fur Bad For Sex Life

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, December 15th, 2008 in Actresses.

Pamela Anderson - Tutti Pazzi per la Tele

Ooh, Kid Rock’s gonna be steamed about this one.

Pamela Anderson wrote to Queen Beatrix in The Netherlands to talk about two issues that are near and dear to her heart: fur and sex.

The combination of the two words sounds rather kinky, but it’s nothing more than Pam’s animal side, er, animal rights side coming out.

“I’m thrilled to be visiting Holland this week not only because of the country’s charm but also because of its progressive outlook on two issues close to my heart: sex and animal rights. These topics overlap when it comes to fur: Nothing has less sex appeal than a fur coat.”

She goes on to ask that since Holland has already banned certain types of fur farms, why not go all the way and ban it all?

Read the rest of Pamela’s letter for suggestions on increasing sex appeal to the Queen.

Paul McCartney On Dalai Lama Doctors: They’re Just Wrong!

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, December 15th, 2008 in Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Celebs at Stella McCartney Fashion Show - Paris

Mere regular celebrities may fall prey to the medical industry telling them meat is necessary for health, but His Holiness?

The Dalai Lama was vegetarian once, but on the advice of doctors, decided to start eating meat. He has been criticized for this by some, including Paul McCartney.

In Prospect Magazine, Paul reveals he wrote to His Holiness after the Dalai Lama stated, “As Buddhists we believe in not causing any suffering to any sentient beings.”

Paul replied to this by saying, “Forgive me for pointing this out, but if you eat animals then there is some suffering somewhere along the line.”

It was then revealed by the Dalai Lama that he was simply following doctors’ orders.

“He replied saying that his doctors had told him he needed it, so I wrote back saying they were wrong.”

Natalie Portman’s Vegan Shoes Stomped Out By Economy

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, December 5th, 2008 in Actresses, Fashion.

Te Casan Vegan Footwear Collection Launch Party

Very, very sad week for eco-friendly shoes lovers.

Proof that celebrities are not immune to the financial problems the world is enduring, Natalie Portman’s vegan shoes are no longer being produced. The parent company, Te Casan, closed shop, due to failing sales.

It’s not known whether Nat will take her shoes elsewhere for production for the line that was launched in February of this year. The shoes went for about $200 a pair-not exactly a bargain, which may have turned off a lot of people in this economy.

The forecast for affordable, quality, cruelty-free clothing is somewhat grim. Vegan shoes are hard enough to find. Vegan shoes that allow you to still be able to keep the lights on the same month you purchase them may be even more difficult to locate.

Could this mean that vegans and vegetarians who don’t wear leather will end up settling for cheap, imported, pleather shoes which tear and fade after a week and bang your feet up so badly, you need band-aids on your toes just to wear them?

Leona Lewis recognizes this problem and says she wants to make her future vegan shoes and bags easier on the bank account.

Leona, your help can’t come soon enough.
