Bob Barker Priceless Memories Book Signing

PETA would have been satisfied with a mini freezer and a microwave, but Bob Barker paid over 2 million dollars to renovate a building in Hollywood where the animal rights group is opening their new headquarters.

There will certainly be a lot of frozen tofu dinners in the office fridge, though.

According to the San Fransisco Chronicle, The LA location will be home to the group’s media, marketing, youth outreach and campaign departments.

The opening ceremony ribbon will be cut today at Sunset Boulevard and Alvarado Street.

Bob Barker has always been outspoken on animal welfare issues, but has he joined Captain Paul Watson and the rest of the Sea Shepherd crew to thwart the whalers in the Southern Ocean?

Not quite (but hey, there’s always next season).

The Bob Barker is the latest ship to partake in the Sea Shepherd mission off the Adelie Coast.

The ship was refurbished thanks to a $5 million dollar donation by none other than Mr. Price is Right himself.

Carrie Underwood Self Magazine January 2010

Carrie Underwood Self Magazine January 2010

Carrie Underwood is on the January 2010 cover of Self Magazine and inside she’s divulging some secrets about her favorite foods, like Quorn, the meat substitute that’s made from a fungus, but sure doesn’t taste like one!

“If I eat too much before a show, I just want to sit down. Too little, and I’m starving. So I eat something small, like Quorn, a tasty meat-free protein, and green beans.”

Carrie has lent her support to the Humane Society in the past and doesn’t spare words when it comes to people who don’t care and look after animals.

“I hate it when people don’t take care of their pets. It’s important to spay or neuter them.”

Will Carrie be the next vegetarian celebrity to replace Bob Barker and be the public face for controlling the pet population?

Bob Barker Signs Copies Of "Priceless Memories"

Bob Barker has donated a million dollars to his alma mater, Drury University, to establish a program for animal rights, the Dorothy Jo Barker Professorship for Animal Rights.

Named after his late wife Dorothy, the program will offer studies on various animal rights issues.

“At the very least, the students who take this class will have more respect for animals,” said Barker.

“It’s taught by 6 professors all experts in their field,” said professor Dr. Patricia McEachern. “There’s no other class like this in the United States”

This isn’t the first time Barker has teamed up a higher education institute to educate others about animal welfare.

Earlier this year, Bob donated a million dollars to the University of Virginia Law school to establish an animal law program.

Sigh. A million here. A million there. Bet the animals are thankful they’ve got a wealthy man on their side.

Kudos to Bob! Keep up the great work!

Bob Barker Still Fighting Edmonton Zoo For Lucy The Elephant

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, September 18th, 2009 in Animal Issues.

TV legend Bob Barker meets fans in Los Angeles

Bob Barker is showing his animal rights love for Lucy the elephant at the Edmonton Zoo in Canada.

The vegetarian ex Price is Right host is calling for the zoo to release Lucy so she may live her remaining years in a sanctuary.

Bob met with zoo officials recently for the proposal.

“There’s very little agreement on anything,” Bob said. “One minute they say she’s happy and healthy and the next minute they say that she’s too ill to travel.”

“Before I go to my maker I would like to see Lucy in the sanctuary,” Bob added.

Bob mentioned that PETA had hired a high profiled Toronto-based lawyer Clayton Ruby to see if anything can be done through the courts to have Lucy moved.

The zoo’s veterinarian, Dr. James Oosterhuis, insists that Lucy’s current respiratory condition would make it dangerous to move her.

“Her current respiratory problems preclude any thought of moving her and in fact, it would be life-threatening,” wrote Oosterhuis. “It is my opinion that it would be unethical for any veterinarian to recommend moving her.”

Barker, along with animal rights activists and their veterinarians insist Lucy can only get better if she is moved.

Bob Barker Blogs For Bears On CNN.Com

Bob Barker Signs Copies Of Priceless Memories

Bob Barker has made ongoing efforts to end the suffering of the caged bears on display at various tourist attractions in Cherokee, North Carolina, including meeting with Principal Chief Michell Hicks of the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Nation.

Now he’s taking his stance on Larry King’s CNN blog in hopes of reaching an even bigger audience.

“The good people of Cherokee welcomed me warmly, and many told me they agreed that the bears are kept in deplorable conditions. Bears are very intelligent, active and curious animals. They need room to roam, natural surroundings to investigate and opportunities to forage, climb and dig dens.”

“Earlier in my career, I hosted a show called Truth or Consequences. I closed the show by saying, “… hoping all your consequences are happy ones!” I hope with all my heart that Chief Hicks and the tribal council will make the consequences for the Cherokee bears happy ones. Until then, my heart and my conscience won’t allow me to do anything but ask people to stay away from Cherokee and voice their support for allowing the bears to retire to a sanctuary.”

Bob Barker Meets With Principal Chief To End Bear Displays In NC

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, July 30th, 2009 in Animal Issues, TV Hosts.

Bob Barker loves his fans

A letter gets your message across, but there’s nothing like face to face interaction.

Several weeks ago, Bob Barker wrote a letter to the Principal Chief of the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Nation, asking for an end to the caged bear pits that serve as a tourist attraction in Cherokee, North Carolina.

On Tuesday, Bob met with Chief Principal Michell Hicks and five other members of the Tribal council, asking that the caged bears be turned over to an animal sanctuary.

The bears exist in walled enclosures rooted in the ground at three local attractions in Cherokee.

“To think that with as advanced as our civilization is now that there is any place in the United States were bears are kept in pits is just unbelievable,” said Barker. “Just picture yourself, if your life, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, month after month, was in a pit.”

Vegetarian Barker is part Cherokee himself and grew up on a reservation in South Dakota.
