Southpark “Whale Whores” Thoughts By Captain Paul Watson

Paul Watson "South Park" "Whale Whores"

The recent parody of Whale Wars by Southpark has prompted the Sea Shepherd Captain Paul Watson to respond to the comedy show mocking him.

Watson’s not at all offended and explains his stance in a recently released statement.

It’s Good to be Lampooned:
“I have to say that being lampooned on South Park is hardly something to complain about. They spelt Sea Shepherd right and they brought the issue of the dolphin and whale slaughter by the Japanese to a very large audience. I could not really care less how I was portrayed personally, I’m in good company along with Tom Cruise and Sean Penn.”

They’re Not As Pussified As You Think:
“It’s a tough situation we are in. We can’t hurt the whalers and we have to stay within the boundaries of the law in opposing illegal whaling operations. If that makes us pussies so be it, it’s better than being portrayed as killers. The point however that was missed is that we have cut the Japanese kill quotas in half over the last three years and cost them their profits. Our objective is to bankrupt them and we are doing just that.”

It Means Whale Wars Is Popular:
“South Park has however linked Japan to the horrific and senseless slaughter of dolphins and whales and all in all that’s a damn good message in our opinion. What the Whale Whores episode also achieved was to highlight just how successful Whale Wars has been as a television show and how Sea Shepherd is out on the high seas actually trying to do something about the problem.”

The Captain has some good points.

Anthony Bourdain On Stupid Animals–Ari Solomon Gives Facts

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, October 29th, 2009 in Animal Issues, Business, Chefs.

World Premiere of Julie & Julia

In a recent article on the Huffington Post, Ari Solomon, president and co-creator of eco-friendly soy candle company, A Scent of Scandal, brought up a recent comment made by celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain.

On Larry King Live, Bourdain had commented that it was okay for humans to kill animals for food because humans were designed to chase down “smaller and stupider” creatures.

“It was the “stupider” remark that caught my attention, and not just for Bourdain’s obvious grammatical shortcomings,” said Solomon.

Solomon then gave some wonderful facts on the intelligence of animals:

Pigs may be smarter than Bourdain:
“Pigs have the mental capacity of a four year-old human child and have beat humans in memory games.”

Dolphins are talking about Bourdain behind his back:
“Dolphins have a very distinct language that scientists now refer to as “dolphinese” which humans can’t decipher. For all our human knowledge, we have no idea how to understand what should be, according to Bourdain, a “stupider” means of communication.”

Pigeons are like men because they don’t ask for directions:
“Did you know, for example, that pigeons can fly thousands of miles to find the same roosting spot with no navigational difficulties? Some species of birds, like the Arctic Tern, make a 25,000-mile round-trip journey every year. Many species use built-in ferromagnets to detect their orientation with respect to the Earth’s magnetic field. Can you do that?”

PETA Asia’s ad featuring Amber Chia has the supermodel answering the call of the wild!

“Tigers, elephants, and chimpanzees aren’t meant to live fenced in any more than I am,” says Chia as she holds a sign that reads, “Keep Wild Animals Free. Boycott zoos.”

Wearing nothing buy a striped body suit, it’s a good bet men would prefer to visit zoos with ladies dressed like Chia than to see animals in the same enclosures.

The ad will run in Japan, Thailand, Germany, the U.S., and Korea later this year.

Bob Barker Signs Copies Of "Priceless Memories"

Bob Barker has donated a million dollars to his alma mater, Drury University, to establish a program for animal rights, the Dorothy Jo Barker Professorship for Animal Rights.

Named after his late wife Dorothy, the program will offer studies on various animal rights issues.

“At the very least, the students who take this class will have more respect for animals,” said Barker.

“It’s taught by 6 professors all experts in their field,” said professor Dr. Patricia McEachern. “There’s no other class like this in the United States”

This isn’t the first time Barker has teamed up a higher education institute to educate others about animal welfare.

Earlier this year, Bob donated a million dollars to the University of Virginia Law school to establish an animal law program.

Sigh. A million here. A million there. Bet the animals are thankful they’ve got a wealthy man on their side.

Kudos to Bob! Keep up the great work!

Jon Gosselin Hailey Glassman Busted For Horse Carriage Ride

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, October 20th, 2009 in Animal Issues.

Jon Gosselin and Hailey Glassman go Whole Foods shopping in New Jersey

First he played the role of dog dumper, now Jon Gosselin‘s been spotted using the controversial horse-carriage attraction to impress his lady friend Hailey Glassman.

After PETA got word of Jon riding the wild horses, they sent him a letter reminding him of the dangers involved with such an industry, not to mention the cruelties of the tourist attraction to the horses.

“Horse-drawn carriages cause countless traffic accidents that injure both horses and people, and veterinarians have shown that the horses contract lung disease from working every day in city traffic with their noses near exhaust-spewing tailpipes. The damage to horses’ lungs is comparable to what heavy smokers experience. Horses are forced to pull carriages in all weather extremes, and many of them go lame from constantly walking on hard pavement (their hooves were designed for grass and dirt). When they grow too old, tired, or ill to continue pulling heavy loads, many worn-out horses are slaughtered and turned into dog food or feed for carnivores in zoos or are shipped overseas for human consumption.”
