Kentucky has brought us all kinds of good veggie things.

Like  Bourbon Barrel Foods‘ veg-friendly, anchovy-free vegetarian worcestershire sauce and soy sauce made from locally grown, non GMO soybeans.

And animal activist Ashley Judd.

And according to Hal Sparks, Lexington’s Alfalfa Restaurant is the next great veg accomplishment the Blue Grass state can be proud of.

Hal Sparks Thinks Factory Farming Is No Joke (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, January 27th, 2011 in Actors, Animal Issues, Comedians, Farming, Food & Drink, Videos.

Hal SparksHal Sparks thinks factory farming is no joke.

During one of his comedic performances, Sparks made humor of poor diets consisting of too many animal products. But in an interview he reveals the effects of raising animals for food is no laughing matter.

“The biggest issue for me is factory farming,” Sparks. “Because I can’t find an angle on it–and I dare anyone else to–that actually supports it in any way. It doesn’t make food cheaper and safer. It doesn’t make the environment better. It harms the people who consume it as well as the people who process it. And it’s horrible to the animals.”

What’s Sparks’ advice for the dying individual who wishes he’d had more time to spend with the family? Watch the clip below to find out.

CAPITALISM: A LOVE STORY- Los Angeles Premiere

Just when you thought every veg celebrity was camping out at Real Food Daily, there are some looking to avoid it.

But sometimes it’s too good to resist.

When Hal Sparks was asked what his favorite kind of cake was, he answered, “There’s a vegan banana creme cake at Real Food Daily (in Santa Monica) that is great. I’ll have that on occasion when I eat there. Otherwise cake is something I can really do without.”

Hal Sparks has big plans for the year 2010, which include covering as much of the world as possible, making friends and connections on the web and staying away from cake.

“My goal of being on every social-networking site in existence is getting closer every day. This year for me is all about touring, streaming and tweeting . . . and avoiding cake.”

Best of luck to Sparks, but given the insanely deliciousness taste of vegan desserts, his last mentioned goal may not be attainable.

Emily Deschanel, Kathy Freston Enjoy Animal Acres Gala 2009

(500) Days of Summer Los Angeles Premiere

This weekend, stars flocked to the annual Animal Acres Gala for celebration.

Animal Acres is a non-profit animal advocacy organization that works to protect farmed animals through rescue and shelter, education, public outreach and investigating claims of abuse.

Ellen DeGeneres was this year’s honorary Gala chairperson and a host of celebrities, including emcee Hal Sparks, author Kathy Freston, actress Emily Deschanel and actor Ed Begley Jr. attended the celebration.

Drummer and author Bobby Rock received the “Compassion Into Action” award for his education efforts, which he said aren’t always easy when faced with the competition for meat and dairy advertisements people are bombarded with.

“It’s not easy, since the average kid gets 10,000 hits of animal agriculture through the media from hamburger commercials, to cheese from happy cows ads, to give eggs a break and we only get them for three hours,” Rock said.

Author of the Quantum Wellness books, Kathy Freston, was the recipient of the “Vegetarian Vision” Award.

Speaking of celebration, food always makes the party better and the Animal Acres Gala-a vegan catered event by Madeleine’s Bistro-was no different.

With menu items such as “Ham” ‘n cheese in filo, Mini mac and Philet-no-fish, you know thing’s had to taste good.
