Who Would You: Kelly Clarkson Or Carrie Underwood

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, March 25th, 2009 in Female Singers, Polls/Surveys, Who Would You.

Two American Idol winners battle it out for your votes, although they never competed against each other onstage. Carrie’s been a vegetarian since her teens, even though her parents are cattle ranchers! This year, she’s donated some of the proceeds from the American Idol elimination song she’s singing to the HSUS.

Kelly recently made the announcement on a UK radio station that’s she been vegetarian for a little over a year and has a new album out, All I Ever Wanted. Simon Cowell’s opinion doesn’t matter on this one. Between the two, who would you do…

American Idol Finalist Anoop Desai Had Vegetarian Past

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, March 17th, 2009 in Male Singers, Not So Vegetarian.

American Idol Top 13 Party

What is it with all these folks coming over to America and ditching their veggie ways?

First, we were saddened to learn that Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi slowly started to eat “bologna” and “pepperoni pizza” as a teenager, then progressed to full blown Hardee’s Bacon Western Thickburger spokseperson.

Now, we learn a finalist on this season’s “American Idol”, Anoop Desai, was “raised by family of vegetarian immigrants,” but assimilated himself to become a “typical American kid who eats typical American food.”

Uh-oh. And you know what “typical” is.

One of his family members said, “But he has a lot of discipline, and though he enjoys food greatly, we have never seen him overeat.”

Desai was a lucky man after being asked to come back to the show on a “wildcard” in a previously unannounced 13th spot.

Maybe if he wins, he’ll get back into the club with Kellie Pickler, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, and the off the wagon, trying to get back on it Ruben Studdard.

Country music singer Carrie Underwood said she sometimes gets booed for saying she’s a vegetarian in some parts of the country. Now she’s getting booed for being an animal lover.

As we reported earlier, Carrie’s voice can be heard singing Motley Crue’s “Home Sweet Home” during each American Idol contestant’s elimination this year. Some of the profits from her version of “Home Sweet Home” available on iTunes will go towards the Humane Society of the United States.

And that just makes the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance want to poop (pun intended).

“Carrie Underwood has decided to use her talents to benefit an organization dedicated to destroying the rights of thousands of her fans,” said Rick Story, vice president of the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance, in a news release. “HSUS does not operate or oversee animal shelters; it is a radical organization that seeks to end hunting and other responsible uses of animals in America.”

The Alliance is urging hunters to contact Fox and demand they not play Carrie’s song.

Wow. Talk about “radical.”

Trying to censor an artist who wants to benefit an organization that works to protect so many animals by speaking out against puppy mills to protecting farm animals sounds more radical. Trying to censor an artist just because she donates to a charity that doesn’t work in favor of your interest is radical.

It’s highly unlikely Fox will drop their Idol alumnus. And it’s highly likely the added publicity will improves sales of “Home Sweet Home.”

Carrie Underwood’s Idol Elimination Song Benefits Humane Society

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, March 10th, 2009 in Animal Issues, Female Singers.

Since Carrie Underwood won American Idol in 2005, she never had the “farewell” song played for her, but this season, she’ll be singing it for everyone else sent home weekly.

Motley Crue’s “Home Sweet Home” has been chosen for the song that’s played while the losing contestant’s Idol experiences are portrayed on the screen.

In the past, tunes sung by former Idols Ruben Studdard and Chris Daughtry have been used as farewell songs.

Carrie’s version of the song will be available on iTunes March 16th, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Humane Society of the United States.

The vegetarian singer said in a press release:

“I’ve always loved this song, and besides being very fitting for Idol, to me, the title is also very fitting with animal rescue and finding animals their own homes.”

The singer has professed her love for animals in the past, even saying that she’d choose animals over men, because she’s found lots of good animals, but not a good man.

Kelly Clarkson Vegetarian Idol Now!

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, February 18th, 2009 in Female Singers, Videos.

Wow. Talk about what’s been happening “since she’s been gone.”

Kelly Clarkson is vegetarian now and has been one for about a year.

During a recent interview with Trent FM UK, Kelly’s interviewer was talking about his experiences in Amarillo, Texas, where the world’s biggest steak-72 ounces-is served.

Kelly said, “My friends have kind of disowned me a bit in Texas because I’ve been a vegetarian for over a year now.”

Don’t worry Kelly. Fellow Idol winner Carrie Underwood knows your pain.

“You can’t be a vegetarian in Texas,” the interviewer jokingly objects.

“I tried it and it’s been really great…So a 72 ounce steak might make me barf,” Kelly continued. “It’s so much better now. I feel better,” she added.

The interviewer concluded by pleading with Kelly to “eat some steak, please,” telling her she was missing her nutrients. Ha! Smart gal Kelly responded that “you get enough nutrients [from things] like beans and everything.”

We’ve got Kelly Clarkson, Kellie Pickler, Carrie Underwood, and off the wagon trying to get back on Ruben Studdard in the veg American Idol club.

Kelly’s new album, All I Ever Wanted, is set to be released in March.

Listen to the video to hear the interview and Kelly talk about her fake red carpet smile. The vegetarian part of the conversation starts around minute 4:45.

Carrie Underwood Wants It Everyday!

Celebrities attend the Clive Davis Pre - Grammy Gala

Carrie Underwood had previously mentioned she wanted a  home cooked vegetarian meal for Valentine’s Day.

Scratch that. She wants it everyday. Uh, a home cooked vegetarian meal, that is…sometimes you gotta elaborate.

American Idol alumnus said she really doesn’t like Valentine’s Day and that couples should show their love every day of the year, according Lime Life.

“I’m anti-Valentine’s Day. I don’t believe – and this goes for anybody – your man shouldn’t love you for one day out of 365. He should love you 365 days out of the year. I want Valentine’s Day every day.”

She has said before that she’d choose animals over men, because a good dog was much easier to find than a good man. Looks like she found another good dog to spend the day with.

She traveled with her rat terrier this past Valentine’s Day.

Hope they got lots of snuggling in.

Carrie Underwood Wants V-Day Home Cooked Vegetarian Meal

51st Annual Grammy Awards - Press Room

Valentine’s Day is approaching and if you haven’t bought your sweetie something nice or planned for the evening, it’s time to get moving.

Carrie Underwood, being the competitive go getter she is, had no problem spelling it out as to what she wanted for Valentine’s Day, according to KBS Radio.

“It’s nice to go out, occasionally, but it’s nice to stay in, too. I’m more of a stay-in, probably, kind of girl. And I’ve never had a guy cook for me. So I think it’d be really awesome if the guy just kind of, you know, put a lot of thought into it. . . made the atmosphere nice. Maybe light some candles or make some decorations or something to sit around, and make me a good meal, a home-cooked meal.”

“I’m a vegetarian, too, so you’d know, it’d be like he went through some thought and looked up a recipe that he figured I would like, and you know, complete with dessert, of course.”

Is she dropping a big hint to Ottawa Senators hockey player Mike Fisher, the latest male candy she’s been romantically linked to?
