Warner Brothers/InStyle Golden Globe Awards Party

So you’ve already burned through the online vegetarian dating websites and still no luck in finding Mr./Mrs. Meatless Right. You pick Pretty Pork Lover forever and forever for holy meatramony and think it’s one of the worse ethical decisions to make.

Maybe you’re wrong, as your spouse could pick up some of your eating habits after waking up to your soy sausage breakfast every morning.

Jaime Pressly recently told Health that she’s no longer making country fried steak as much after a day on the My Name Is Earl set.

Q: Your husband is a vegetarian and you’re not. Have your eating habits changed as a result?

Gwyneth Paltrow All Smiles After Talking With GMA

We hear Gwyneth Paltrow is interested in putting yoga into the curriculum at inner city schools.

Before you roll eyes and insert snide remark about making fixing the outdated buildings and designing  programs to raise standardized test scores a priority, it may interest you to know the kids in South Central LA, an area known for violence and poverty, are already bending themselves in pretzels.

Accelerated School, named School of the Year by Time magazine, found these classes raised self-esteem and made students more mellow, which resulted in less disciplinary issues in the classroom, according to Yoga Therapy Web.

The same site mentions a study that found that students’ GPAs have been correlated with the degree of participation in YogaEd, a 36 week children’s yoga program.

Gwyneth will provide the cat-stretch and downward-facing dog.

John Salley will create the menu filled with vegetarian entrees.

And Rachael Ray will set up the gardens in the schoolyard from which food is grown and obtained every semester.

It’s celebrities to the rescue to take back the public school system!

Vegan athlete Brendan Brazier has taken to CrazySexyLife to talk about us being unbalanced!

That is, the average American consumes too high amounts of omega-6 fatty acids and not enough omega-3s, as reported by a World Health Organization finding.

Some believe the shift in eating more processed foods that are rich in the omega-6 acids, but also refined oils and manufactured fats designed to protect shelf life,  may be responsible for the ratio, and recommend supplementing with omega-3 for balance.

According to nutrition guru Dr. Weil, this imbalance may be linked to depression, obesity, hyperactivity and even violence. We need to stop building prisons and provide funding for omega-3 in criminals’ diets. A British study found that violence in prison dropped by 37% after omega-3 oils and supplements were added to the prisoners’ diets.

Brazier believes supplementing is like taking vitamins without ever eating a vegetable and the best way to cure the imbalance is to eat a well rounded diet.

“Taking into account the WHO’s findings on the ideal ratio, those of us who eat a diet that does not regularly contain large amounts of high-temperature fried foods, hydrogenated fats (such as those found in some margarines) or trans fats have no reason to use supplements with a greater ratio of omega-3 to omega-6. It’s just not necessary. If, however, a large part of your diet consists of denatured fats, fried foods and manufactured oils…stop eating them!”

British soccer star David Beckham sits court side to watch the Los Angeles Lakers play the Utah Jazz during Game 2 of their NBA Western Conference semi-final playoff series in Los Angeles

David Beckham and wife Posh Spice have been spotted shopping for produce!

According to the Daily Mail, a source told Showbiz Spy that David has been taking cooking lesson and making more home made meals for the children.

“He has been showing the boys how to make simple pasta dishes and they’ve all had a great time together in the kitchen,” the source said.

Sure hope David is buying organic vegetables to go with the whole wheat penne, as a new study shows children who eat non organic produce with common pesticides may be at greater risk of ADHD.

The study published in Pediatrics had researchers from the University of Montreal and Harvard evaluate 1,139 children, ages 8 to 15, for key compounds found in common pesticides, including the commonly used compound malathion.

ADHD rates were doubled among kids with higher than average levels of malathion.

The scary part is that the link between pesticides and ADHD seems quite plausible, given the fact the compounds are designed to damage the neural pathways of insects by interfering with brain chemicals and ADHD in humans has been linked to problems with those same brain chemicals.

The Beckhams may be onto something though.

Pictures at The Daily Mail show them hanging out near the organic spice section.

VIP Premiere: Ben 10. Alien Force - Inside Arrivals

Aldo Zilli‘s wife Nikki says the death of her father prompted Aldo to change his diet.

Aldo not only changed his habits at home, but his services to others as well, relaunching one of his signature restaurants as an all vegetarian one, Zilli Green.

“Dad was very active and at more than 6ft tall he wasn’t overweight for his height,” Nikki Zilli said in the Daily Mail. “But he really liked his food and, looking back, he ate a lot of red meat, pasta and bread and not enough oily fish, fruit and vegetables. We know now how important diet is in reducing the risk of bowel cancer.”

Research has already shown that a diet high in red meat could result in you more likely to develop cancer. And according to the Cancer Project, one study published in the journal of Cancer Research found subjects who ate red meat had higher levels of compounds that damage DNA, which is why cancer develops in the first place.

When the subjects were placed on a red meat, red meat with high fiber or a vegetarian diet for just 15 days, the red meat dieters had the greatest levels of N-nitrosocompounds, which damage DNA.

The red meat with fiber dieters had lower levels of N-nitrosocompounds and the vegetarians had the lowest.

It’s thought that the fiber found in fruits and vegetables provides extra protection against cancer.

The People's Choice Awards 1998

Australian actress and animal rights activist Lynda Stoner thinks dogs and cats were meant to eat meat.

She feels so guilty about feeding animals another animal that she told The Scavenger she doesn’t think she can get another pet if it means killing one to feed another.

“Before my son was born I had three little dogs who were vegetarian (during my dictatorial years) and I must say they bloomed and flourished. However with our last dog I revised my views on denying him his natural carnivorous state.”

“Vowed I would not get another companion animal if it meant another animal had to die to feed my chosen one/s. Besides, the grief we went through when Lobo died was it for me. So my life has been blessed with the company of animals but I doubt I will go there again. Perhaps a rabbit…or two…”

The debate over whether a cat or dog can live as a healthy vegetarian has support on both sides.

The Vegetarian Society in the UK warns to exercise caution when feeding dogs vegetarian diets and says never allow a cat to go meatless.

And one vegan cat food brand, Vegecat Kibble Mix, was found to have multiple nutritional inadequacies, especially the much needed taurine for cats.

On the other hand, a 2006 study in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association found cats fed a vegetarian diet usually had adequate levels of B12 and taurine.

Maybe the key is to make and supplement it yourself.

Any experiences or suggestions?

Cavaliers O'Neal slam dunks against Boston

Shaquille O’Neal sat down for an interview with Sports Illustrated with a bottle of V8 by his side, which took writer Chris Ballard by surprise.

The player who Ballard described as a man who used to, “dine on 48-ounce steaks and wash them down with 24-ounce steaks, cradling this tiny vessel of vegetable pulp,” has changed more than his choice of beverage lately.

Ballard says Shaq now orders organic meals, got rid of soda and white bread and cut out almost all red meat from his diet, losing 20 pounds in the process.

“And damn if he doesn’t look relatively slim, his stomach practically a plane beneath his T-shirt, which he pairs most days with baggy sweatpants and perhaps the largest pair of shower sandals ever manufactured.”

Calling foul on the red meat may do more for Shaq than lead the Cavaliers to a championship.

New study results presented at the American Association for Cancer Research’s annual meeting suggests people with the highest red meat intake also have the highest risk of developing bladder cancer.

Among the 884 people with bladder cancer and 878 without studied, those that ate the most red meat were 58% more likely to develop bladder cancer.

Those that consumed the most bacon, pork chops, fried chicken and fried fish also had a higher risk.

Part Time Vegetarians “Flexitarians” On The Rise

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, May 12th, 2010 in Flexitarian, Food & Drink, Research + Science.

His and Her Shopping Baskets

Meat eaters who will forgo the hamburger on most days and opt for the pasta with “wheat” balls are on the rise.

According to a new study discussed in The Mirror, record numbers of flexitarians, or people who eat vegetarian sometimes are forming.

Sales of  products such as fake meats have doubled over the last decade in the UK, according to the Vegetarian Society.

“The real growth area is in ‘meat reducers’ – those who haven’t given up meat completely but who are making a conscious effort to eat less of it,” said Su Taylor, a spokesperson for the company.

There are different ways to incorporate a part-time vegetarian lifestyle.

Treehugger founder Graham Hill follows a weekday vegetarian plan, while author Mark Bittman recommends a “vegan until 6” deal.

Still, others eliminate some animal products entirely, like red meat and dairy, replacing them with plant based alternatives.
