Alicia Silverstone Tweets Vegan Hanukkah Recipes

Alicia Silverstone is celebrating Hanukkah with a festival of vegan recipes!

The actress, author and animal rights champion posted several meatless, egg and dairy-free versions of classic Jewish dishes to her blog The Kind Life last year and has been Tweeting links to those recipes.

“I love the story of Hanukkah,” Silverstone writes. “To me, it is about making the most of the resources you have. I like to think of this holiday as a reminder to turn off lights when you don’t need them and practice using less energy in your daily life at home and at work.”

Mayim Bialik PETA

Mayim Bialik has shared a delicious recipe for vegan donuts with PETA.

Sofganyot is a traditional Hanukkah treat that Bialik has learned–like many other of her favorite comfort foods–to veganize.

During an interview in 2010, Bialik said these donuts were one of several ways she “indulges” during the holidays.

“For Chanukah, eight days of fried latkes with vegan sour cream. And we make vegan sofganyot (israeli doughnuts) too.”

America is nowhere near earning the nickname of the “health foodie state,” but could it be that the fall of the Twinkie empire is due to people simply changing their habits and wanting to eat better?

“ABC” Features Vegetarian And Vegan Thanksgiving Sides (Video)

ABC’s KABC-TV in Los Angeles, CA has a short feature on vegetarian Thanksgiving side dishes.

While many officially celebrated un-turkey day yesterday, some will still be cooking for the entire weekend, depending on when friends and relatives are able to visit.

“You’ve got to provide something for everyone. You want to make everyone happy on Thanksgiving,” Chef Anthony Jacquet said. “The sides are the personality of the meal also and people get just as excited about those as the turkey.”

Or the tofu turkey.

Great side dishes include Colorful Kale Salad, Farro Salad and Roasted Kabocha Squash.
