Tim Gunn Gives Thoughts On Cat Hurling Kenley Collins

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, March 23rd, 2009 in Fashion, Reality TV, Videos.

As we told you earlier, Project Runway finalist Kenley Collins was recently charged with assault after she threw a series of items, including a poor cat, at her fiance’s head while he was sleeping.

Tim Gunn of Project Runway shared his thoughts on the matter. Apparently Collins had a history of getting into “cat fights” on Project Runway with other contestants and judge Heidi Klum. Gunn reveals on the television show “Apt. 34” that the clips were edited to make her look better.

“If the audience saw and heard as much of Kenley as I did, people would have turned their televisions off.”

Damn Tim. Tell it like it is!

Seriously, the story is quite sad and we’re hoping Collins get the anger management help she needs to avoid abusing any beings, animals or humans, in the future.

Project Runway’s Kenley Collins Has Cat Fight With Fiancé

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, March 20th, 2009 in Animal Issues, Fashion, Reality TV.

Tim Gunn is not going to be happy about this.

Project Runway finalist Kenley Collins has reportedly used her cat as a weapon by throwing the animal at her sleeping fiancé’s head.

Gives a whole new meaning to the phrase “cat fight.”

Police have now charged her with assault and criminal possession of a deadly weapon.

After throwing the cat, Collins threw a laptop and three apples (wow, at least she was throwing produce and not meat) at Zak Penley.

After being released without bail, Collins told the New York Post it was a “miscommunication,” and that “Fights happen, And that’s that. There is no case.”

Um, yeah fights happen, but when cats are being hurled across the room, it’s more than a little miscommunication.

Unless the miscommunication involved Collins hearing the cat say, “Punt me,” this is animal cruelty.

Ironically, Collins and Penley, an artist and musician, created a song called “CAT?” for her Project Runway finale.

We thought we’d add our creative efforts to it. How about “CAT?: Why I Shouldn’t Own One.”

Bethenny Frankel Ordered To Stop Sending Vegan Cupcakes

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, March 19th, 2009 in Chefs, Food & Drink, Reality TV.

The Real Housewives Of New York City Season 2 Premiere Party

New York Magazine recently did a recap of a Real Housewives of New York City episode, a reality TV show on the Bravo network featuring healthy foods chef Bethenny Frankel.

In a classic Siskel & Roeper deal, each housewife got the thumbs up or down, but Bethenny won columnists Chris Rovzar and Jessica Pressler over.

Her vegan baking didn’t, though.

“Bethenny suffered through everyone’s dating advice (“Why does everyone think I’m like Shrek or something?”), behaved through her drinks date with LuAnn, and amazingly, did not visibly dry heave when Alex told her she met Simon when she was trolling online for sex. She was matter-of-fact about her fellow housewives’ shortcomings (“I think that Ramona’s a little competitive with LuAnn”) and kind in that she didn’t reveal the reasons for her non-feelings for the guy from STK on-camera. (We’ll say it for her: He’s not hot enough. There.) Plus, her eye makeup was really well applied. So Bethenny, you won this round. Please don’t send us any more vegan cupcakes, though.

Aw, come on guys. Who doesn’t love a vegan cupcake?

Bethenny’s company, Bethenny Bakes, offers a wide variety of egg and dairy free goodies. Not to mention she’s promoted veggie dips with Pepperidge Farm for the Super Bowl and made videos demonstrating tofu with eggless spread and open faced Boca Burger sandwiches with pesto.

Chopping Block

It’s always nice to see veg food show up on TV cooking shows, even if Gordon Ramsay doesn’t like it.

NBC’s new reality TV chef competition, Chopping Block,  has one contestant, Kelsey Henderson (right) who’s had her hand in some veg cooking before.

Although she herself isn’t vegetarian, she told the LA Times blog she enjoys “eating and cooking that kind of food.”

Does that mean we’ll see some veggie creations on her “Chopping Block” menu this season?

Henderson is also a former macrobiotic chef for Madonna.

The show involves teams of contestants bending over backwards for various scenarios that go into opening a new restaurant, from planning the menu to publicity to the most important-making the food! All this must be done while pleasing various food critics who are watching every move they make to determine which team should be sent home next.

Uh-oh. Things could get ugly. Because you remember what happened last time a vegetarian was on Amazing Race. Does sheep butt ring a bell?

Mike White, writer, producer, and actor who’s writing credits include School of Rock and Nacho Libre has teamed up with his dad, Mel White, on this season’s Amazing Race.

You may have heard of his film dedicated to animal rights, Year of the Dog.

Mike was inspired to go vegan and embrace animal rights after befriending a cat he inherited after moving to a new home. Not realizing how attached to the cat he had become, Mike was so devastated when it passed, he had children coming up to comfort him in the animal hospital.

This guy is so veganized, he’s even worn two PETA T-shirts so far on the show.

Wishing Mike and dad best of luck, and hoping he doesn’t have to do lamb eating contest like Terence Gerchberg did last season. That would be so baa-baa-baaad. Okay, okay, bad joke.

Steve-O, born Stephen Glover, was known for pulling  dangerous junior high pranks on the MTV show “Jackass.” Now, he’s back on television, this time doing the rumba, waltz, and other dances with professional partner Lacey Schwimmer on the ABC television series, Dancing With The Stars.

And according to various sources, including his sister, Steve-O will be one vegetarian dancing with the stars.

Several reports from the web, like Steve’s blog, mention that he became vegetarian over the recent years.

He did an anti-fur ad for PETA back in 2007. If your memory fails you, here goes…

Hope Steve is sticking with his veggie diet. Wishing him best of luck on the show.

Jill Stuart - Front Row - Fall 09 MBFW

OMG! Don’t watch this while you’re hungry.

Bethenny Frankel showed us how to combine Pepperidge Farm products with hummus for healthier dips for the Super Bowl not long ago, and we dug up a video in the archives of her demonstrating quick and easy vegetarian lunches.

The Real Housewives of New York City star says these are the foods she eats everyday, which include Open Faced Pesto Boca Cheeseburger with soy cheese on sprouted grain bread and Tofu Salad Sandwich with Greens with vegan mayonnaise and Spike Seasoning.

If you aren’t in the kitchen raiding your refrigerator by now, you can watch the video to see how Bethenny demonstrates making these foods before you attempt them.

2008 Summer TCA Tour - Day 3

If you followed the Whale Wars series on Animal Planet, you know Captain Paul Watson and his crew on the Steve Irwin ship, which included actress Daryl Hannah, used prank-like tactics to throw off the whalers to try to keep them from killing whales in what they claim is for research purposes, including throwing rancid stink butter bombs at the ship.

Now, the whalers have fought back. After the Steve Irwin collided with the Japanese whaler ship, the hunters decided to get even by throwing chunks of bloodied whale and whale fat at the Captain and his crew.

Interestingly enough, if the whales are captured for research purposes, why are the whalers throwing away good study material? If they’re allowed to capture them, surely they’d find a good use for the materials besides blubber bombs.

Captain Watson claims the collision was accidental. Japanese whalers say otherwise. Take a look and tell us what you think.
