Round 2 of holding political figures responsible for their attitudes towards animals has begun.

Last week, animal welfare groups attacked Mitt Romney for a trip he took to Canada with a dog allegedly strapped to the top of a vehicle.

Now, critics have turned to a passage Obama wrote in one of his books, Dreams of My Father, where he discusses eating dog in Indonesia. PETA actually took the time to offer some constructive critcism while others have Tweeted away jokes worth groaning over, as you’ll read below.

Mitt Romney

Saturday Night Live chose to poke fun of potential Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney in a skit where he “claimed to be interested in things we know he is not interested in.”

Like animal welfare, for instance.

The skit touted Romney as both the future “cat-neutering president” and the “cock-fighting president,” reminding those that follow a politician’s record on animal rights about an all too heartbreaking incident in 1983 when Romney allegedly took a trip to Canada with a dog strapped to the roof of the car.

Steve King

Iowa Republican representative Steve King thinks if you’re a vegetarian or a vegan, it’s time to come out of the closet.

King was present at a hearing that discussed issues pertinent to the Department of Agriculture and animal husbandry when he noticed there were several animal welfare and animal rights groups present.

King insisted these people weren’t really there to discuss how to better the agricultural system by cleaning up big farms, improving living conditions for animals and making  the food supply safer but were on a secret mission to get rid of the system altogether. Al Sharpton

“I don’t eat any meat. I only eat fish twice a week, and I eat only vegetables and fruit, and I’ve lost total. … I was at my height about 305, now I’m down to 180, 185.”

Al Sharpton, during an interview on The Wendy Williams Show. Just a quick reminder to Al and the rest of you pescatarians–fish is meat too. But congratulations to him for making a drastic change in his life for better health.
