Round 2 of holding political figures responsible for their attitudes towards animals has begun.

Last week, animal welfare groups attacked Mitt Romney for a trip he took to Canada with a dog allegedly strapped to the top of a vehicle.

Now, critics have turned to a passage Obama wrote in one of his books, Dreams of My Father, where he discusses eating dog in Indonesia. PETA actually took the time to offer some constructive critcism while others have Tweeted away jokes worth groaning over, as you’ll read below.

“A child has an excuse, but grown-ups all should know by now the disgusting condition of slaughterhouses and fear and suffering that animals endure on factory farms and try a vegetarian diet that’s good for them, animals, and the environment,” PETA spokeswoman Nicole Dao reportedly told the The Daily Caller.

There’s the constructive criticism. And now for the smart-aleck Tweets.

  • Jennifer @TheNewJenn Tweeted “Beagles With Cream Cheese.”
  • Fox Nation @foxnation Tweeted “Eggs Rover Easy.”
  • Michael Berry @michaelberrysho Tweeted “Obama’s Indonesian Cookbook: Dreams of My Fido.”
  • Tim Miller @Timodc Tweeted “Santa’s Little Hamburger Helper.”

Feel free to peruse Politico for more.

If there’s any lesson to be learned from this (besides the fastest way to counter attack a candidate), it’s that we need to remember eating a dog in Indonesia is no different from eating a cow in America. We are brought up to believe that’s it’s more “socially acceptable” to eat some animals than others, but if you wouldn’t eat your pet, you shouldn’t be eating a hamburger.

Or, as someone Tweeted, “Chicken Poodle Soup.”
