Special Screening Of Lionsgate's

Good Charlotte musician Benji Madden and Paris Hilton are an item and are officially telling the world about it. Yes, we know you care so much.

They were spotted at the premiere for Hilton’s new movie Repo! The Genetic Opera at Planet Hollywood where they then went to an after party and feasted on vegetarian spring rolls, pork pot stickers, and mini cheeseburger sliders.

Well, it’s assumed that Benji feasted on the spring rolls, since he has publicly claimed to be vegetarian. Paris did her part to stomp her carbon footprint into the earth and offset Benji’s spring rolls by downing the pork and beef.

Peta has said that they want vegetarians to date meat eaters as it gives the opportunity to educate and (they’re hoping) convert.

It worked for Paul McCartney and Nancy Shevell.

To twist a famous Elvis song, how ’bout a “little more conversation and a little less action?” Trade one lip locking night with a night of education about the benefits of reducing meat.

It might also be a good idea to tell her to stop collecting so many puppies.

She Said She Was 18…They Said It Was Fake Fur

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, November 8th, 2008 in Actresses, Fur, Not So Vegetarian.

The 2007 National Board Of Review Awards Gala

Kate Winslet got duped.

Miss Vegetarian Titanic appears in the latest issue of Vanity Fair, draped in fox, bear, rabbit, and whatever the heck else goes into real fur clothing. But the lovely Winslet would never wear fur and has worked with Peta in the protest of it.

It seems she was told the by photo shoot people the fur was fake.

But this poses a question: Why agree to do a fur shoot, faux or faux-real anyway? Since it can be hard to tell if it is or isn’t real, why take the chance?

Not only does she run the risk of hurting her credibility, she is also making fur look fashionable. Unless there’s a big disclaimer saying, “This isn’t real. Fur is stupid. Don’t wear it,” most people looking at the magazine will see it as fur. And they will see a beautiful, glamorous actress wearing it, thus thinking they too can possibly be beautiful and glamorous and rack up the credit card this Holiday season with a coat of their own.

Peta, of course, pulled an all nighter trying to get in touch with her representatives who confirmed that Kate was indeed tricked. They let her off easy. We won’t.

Charlotte Ronson Runway Show

Lilo’s main squeeze, Samantha Ronson, like many other gay and lesbians in California, was not too pleased to hear that Proposition 8, which amends the state constitution to define marriage as between a man and a woman was passed.

However, another measure, Proposition 2, which allows some farm animals to move around more freely, was passed as well. And that just pisses Ronson off. On her Myspace blog, an entry titled, “2 steps forward…2 steps back,”she wrote:

“i guess people care more about farm animals than they do their fellow man, that’s really sad to me.”

“yes, i am glad that the chickens will have more room and better conditions as they wait to die, but i just think it’s frightening that people show more compassion for tomorrow’s dinner than for the chef.”

“yup, miss piggy and chicken little may rest easy, but gay people in florida and california can no longer get married…”

In response, Peta has sent Ronson a letter asking her to understand the importance of Prop 2, and asking for her support as they continue to support the fight of discrimination against gays:

“Abusing animals is always wrong, and discriminating against gays is always wrong. We’ll continue to fight against the ban on gay marriage, and we hope that we can have your support in our efforts to eliminate cruelty to animals.”

Granted, you could understand Ronson’s anger. But is it necessary to take things out on Miss Piggy? Treating animals kindly says a lot about a society’s values and voting for Prop 2 doesn’t mean voting against gays and lesbians.

Hopefully, Sam will cool down in a few days and realize that progress in any matter takes time. It was time for Miss Piggy this year. And hopefully, it will come time for every oppressed and discriminated group to receive fair, equal, and compassionate treatment.

Pregnancy Makes Female Celebrities All Weird And Meat Seeking

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, November 7th, 2008 in Actresses, Not So Vegetarian.

11th Annual Hollywood Awards - Arrivals

What is it about pregnancy that makes some women go off on the meat hunt?

Brooke Shields was a vegetarian for over a decade until her pregnancy when she decided she thought her body “needed” meat.

Bryce Dallas Howard kept to her vegetarian ways, but gave up being vegan because she was afraid of not getting enough amino acids in her diet.

And Jennifer Connelly’s bun in the oven made her say, “Gobble, gobble.”

From an interview with Marie Claire Magazine:

“I’d been vegan for many years, and then all of a sudden when I was pregnant with Kai, I wanted a turkey burger. That was the end of my being vegan.”

Uh, the end of being vegetarian too, unless it was a Tofurky burger.

But hormones can do some good things for a famous mother to be. Rebecca Romijn sent Jerry O’Connell to stalk the non-dairy aisle of the store when she wanted her soy cream cheese.

The Hills’ Lauren Conrad’s Fishy Behavior

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, October 30th, 2008 in Actresses, Not So Vegetarian.

The Avon Foundation Hosts The Hope Honors

Something stinks. We think it’s Lauren Conrad. She doesn’t actually smell of real fish (depending on if she’s eaten recently), but her actions do.

The FORMER vegetarian appears in an interview in the November issue of Cosmopolitan and says that although she used to be a strict vegetarian, she now eats fish.

MTV’s “The Hills” actress also reports craving salts instead of sweets, calling it a “salt tooth.”

You can pick up a copy of Cosmopolitan, which has been on the stands since October 14th and learn how Lauren deals with trying to be a normal 22-year old living in a fish (he, he, have to get that pun in) bowl as a Hollywood star.

Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale after a Halloween party, Gwen dressed as an egg and Gavin as the bacon

The lovely Hollaback girl Gwen Stefani and her hubby Gavin Rossdale went to a Halloween party with their children and decided to play big kids and dress themselves up as bacon and egg.

That’s right. Bacon, for Gavin, the VEGETARIAN. We can only hope he was imitating Lightlife’s Smart Bacon or some other veggie substitute. Of course, Gwen’s costume could have been something worse, like fur. But it would have made things stressful for the couple when it came time to split the candy. The pork costume wearing ex Bush frontman is vocal about the fur industry and was once quoted as saying:

“The person I love would never wear fur. Fur just makes me think of shallow women who have no conscience. The fur industry belongs to a time when people were selfish beyond belief. If you were some ancient tribal cheiftain, and there was not a department store nearby 350 years ago, I’d understand. But now, we have synthetic fibers, and it’s not necessary. The elitism of fur makes me wanna puke.”

The elitism of bacon costumes makes us wanna puke. Hopefully next scary season Gavin will dress up as a humble tempeh block.

Thanks Ecorazzi

10th Anniversary Benefit Supporting Road Recovery - New York

Tom Morello is just looking to be a part of the club, but he technically doesn’t meat (pun, pun, pun) all the criteria. The former Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave member who now does his solo thing as the musical act The Nightwatchman, says he’s been a vegetarian (flexitarian) on and off since college (he’s 44 now).

But currently he’s eating fish (so that makes him a pescatarian?) and gives into the lust that many men can’t turn down: Breast. Turkey breast, that is.

“IVE BEEN A VEGETARIAN ON AND OFF SINCE I ENTERED COLLEGE AND READ A BOOK CALLED “ANIMAL LIBERATION” BY AN AUTHOR WHO’S LAST NAME IS SINGER. IT CONVINCED ME OF THE IMMORALITY OF PARTICIPATING IN EATING MEAT THAT CAME THROUGH THE HORRIFIC FACTORY FARM SYSTEM. WHEN I FIRST BECAME A VEGETARIAN I HAD NEVER MET ANOTHER VEGETARIAN AND DIDN’T KNOW HOW TO DO IT SO IT BASICALLY LEFT ME WITH SALAD AND CHOCOLATE AND FRENCH FRIES AS THE ONLY THINGS LEFT ON THE MENU. I BECAME VERY SICK. KIND OF WENT BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN EATING MEAT AND NOT EATING MEAT OVER THE COURSE OF THE NEXT FEW YEARS. I STILL EAT FISH REGULARILY AND ON THANKSGIVING CAN BE LURED TO EAT TURKEY.”

What the heck? If he’s eating fish, he’s not technically vegetarian and if he’s eating turkey, he’s still not pescatarian. Wouldn’t it be easier for him to just say he doesn’t eat red meat and tries to reduce other meat consumption?

Oh well. Paul McCartney called for Meat Free Mondays in hopes of getting everyone to reduce the impact of meat consumption on the environment even if they didn’t give it up completely. Morello is making an effort, even if it’s not the greatest one.

Someone should really show him the Tofurky section of Whole Foods next month though.

We really hate this part of our job. But we gotta do what we gotta do. Rapper Common has become the latest former veg celebrity to become meatlisted. An interview with Blackbookmag.com:

I read that you are a practicing vegan?
No, I used to be a vegan. I eat fish now.

How long were you a vegan?
Two years.

Sigh. It was good while it lasted.
