Mayim Bialik

“New York and Jerusalem are tied for my favorite city, but I tend to do more family and friends hanging out when I go there, so I don’t know if it feels like a vacation so much. In New York, I eat at as many vegan restaurants as I can. In Jerusalem, I recommend doing everything the tour books tell you to! I don’t tend to go on fancy vacations at all when I’m planning it or paying, but I love camping in the Angeles Crest Forest above Los Angeles and I also love the Julian area inland from San Diego.”

Mayim Bialik, on some of her favorite vacation spots where she’s guaranteed to find good food in addition to a good hotel package. Comfort vegan food is a must have to calm her down on a flight, in addition to lavender essentail oil, ear plugs and her iPod.

“Instead of protecting animals on farms from abuse, Senate Bill 1248 is a thinly veiled attempt by the agriculture industry to paralyze the efforts of those concerned about the treatment of animals to collect evidence of a pattern of routine cruelty, which has helped officials win convictions against animal abusers around the country, by forcing them to turn over evidence of single instances of abuse almost immediately. … Because there is no government inspection of farms for cruelty violations and because workers who report abuse are frequently ignored, investigations are often the only way to hold farm workers and managers accountable to existing laws.”

Emmylou Harris, in a letter to Tennessee’s governor to veto a bill making it criminal to investigate abuse on farms through the use of undercover filming.

“I’m vegetarian at the moment. I have been vegan in the past but I’ve found it a bit too hard with all the travelling I do. It is possible if your heart is really in it and you have a lot of discipline but I was just spending way too much time trying to find places that could serve me something vegan.”

Missy Higgins, on her wavering plant-based diet. Not only is it hard to find vegan food on the road, it’s much easier to find Tim Tams. Higgins explained the chocolate covered desserts “might be half the reason why I find it so hard to be vegan!”

“It simply takes more land, more water, and more energy to grow a pound of beef than it does a pound of broccoli. Nowadays, cattle, and hogs, and chickens are kept in very confined conditions too, so it’s not something I want for the animals or for myself.”

Ed Begley Jr., during his Earth Day interview with Living Green Mag.
