Benji And Joel Madden Create Denny’s Veg Burritos

Denny's All Nighter

Veg Brothers Benji and Joel Madden of Good Charlotte recently made vegetarian and vegan burritos at Denny’s in Los Angeles!

The burritos will be available on Denny’s Allnighter Rockstar Menu.

Yes, Canadians may have their KFC vegan faux chicken sandwich, but now folks in the U.S. have another veg option in a traditionally fast food restaurant.

Since Benji and Joel are both known and outspoken vegetarians as well as known rockstars, who better to choose to be the poster boys of veg Denny’s?

The Rock Star Menus were created when Denny’s allowed musicians like Katy Perry, Taking Back Sunday, Boys Like Girls, and Hoobastank into the kitchen (dangerous, we know) to cook up what they like to chow down on after hours.

Benji and Joel’s creations will be featured on the third Rock Star Menu, which is launching this summer.

Men with guitars are sexy enough. Men with guitars who can cook are almost too much to handle.

You can view more pics of the Madden brothers in Denny’s Kitchen over at Denny’s blog.

Michael Stipe Championed Veg Food At The Grill In Georgia

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, February 13th, 2009 in Food & Drink, Male Musicians, Male Singers.

R.E.M. Performs In Naples

We learned earlier that R.E.M. musicians Michael Stipe and Peter Buck have “code words” for requesting vegetarian food at events.

But it’s not anything new for the Star Me Kitten dudes to speak out when it comes to making sure herbivores have something on the menu for them.

The Grill in Athens, Georgia is a burger and fries, milkshake joint. But when Stipe frequented there in the early 80s when he was a student at the University of Georgia, he made some noise about putting vegetarian items on the menu. It worked and the restaurant still has an extensive vegetarian menu, featuring tofu dogs, fake bacon B.L.T., and veggie wraps.

The Grill is considered a landmark in Athens and has recently turned over its hands to a worker who flipped burgers as an employee for 12 years, Mike Bradshaw, because the most recent previous owner, Jeff Weinberg, didn’t want his joint turning into a Five Guys or Johnny Rockets or other grease fest chain store.

Thank goodness The Grill isn’t losing its veggie religion. There are no plans to change a thing, including the menu.

Lance Bass Should Say “Bye, Bye, Bye” To Last Name?

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, February 9th, 2009 in Male Musicians.

2008 American Music Awards - Portraits

This is one of the reasons PETA gets a bad rep with people.

Out of good intentions, the group has jokingly suggested that former ‘N Sync singer and “Dancing With the Stars” contestant Lance Bass change his last name from “Bass” to “Sea Kitten.”

You see, bass is a type of fish, and since PETA is doing much to promote their Sea Kitten campaign meant to increase awareness that seafood is as full of life as other animals (and shouldn’t be eaten), it has suggested that Lance changing his name would do much for the campaign.

“Not content with the reams of newsprint that have already been dedicated to our Save the Sea Kittens campaign, we’re going for a little more face time for our finned friends by asking Lance Bass, the former ‘N Sync singer and “Dancing With the Stars” alum, to change his last name from “Bass” to “Sea Kitten.” We hope Lance goes for it hook, line, ‘N Sync-er. (Badump-bump.)”

Groan!

Sure, it’s meant to be humorous, but doesn’t PETA have better things to do with their time? How does this further animal rights? Asking a man to change his name is like sending him to the vet for an irreversible population control procedure. Just put some naked ladies on a video. That’s much more effective.

Remember what happened when Taco Bell asked 50 Cent to change his name to 79 Cent for the sake of their tacos and burritos? It’s wasn’t a pretty scene in da courtroom club.

Focus on the real kittens, sea and land. Leave Lance Kitten alone.

If you like watching the “Extras” portion on DVDs you should take a look at these outtakes from Stephen Colbert’s Paul McCartney interview.

“Here’s my problem with vegetarianism,” says Colbert. “You can’t hunt vegetables. You cannot stalk a stalk of broccoli. You can’t fire off a shotgun into a field of asparagus.”

Paul suggests another type of “hunt” that takes place in your supermarket after spotting the vegetable of your choice.

“You don’t have to fire…lasso them…Broccoli, you’re mine…Straight to the checkout counter.”

Watch the video for laughs from scenes that didn’t, but should have, made the cut.

Paul McCartney: Renaissance Man Who Cooks A Mean Veg Lasagna

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, February 5th, 2009 in Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Paul McCartney in the West Village

Nancy Shevell will have it made if she finally ties the knot with ex Beatles Sir Paul McCartney. A man who can cook makes the best husband, hands down.

McCartney was being interviewed by Entertainment Weekly when it was mentioned he’s such as well rounded man-musician who plays most of the instruments on his albums, poet, children’s book author, and artist who drew the artwork for his album.

“Such a renaissance man,” EW suggested. “Can you bake too?”

“Well, I did make a vegetarian lasagna recently, one Linda used to make. I found it in a book in the kitchen and I thought, can I really do this? But I did and it was quite delicious”

Paul has had many years of practice cooking vegetarian since he and late wife Linda’s Christmas without turkey, where they crafted a macaroni and cheese “turkey” in place of the real thing.

Rapper Common Has Common Ground With Vegetarians

The 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards - InStyle/Warner Bros. After Party - Arrivals

We cried a river when hip hopper and rapper Common announced he had gone from vegan to eating dairy and fish.

The good news is that’s the only thing animal related that touching his luscious lips (no beef, poultry, pork) and he still openly talks about his almost vegetarian lifestyle in public.

Just Jared caught up with him to learn Common likes his veggie sausages when he’s having breakfast at Dizzies in Park Slope in New York.

“I get breakfast from there [Dizzies] all the time. I eat a certain diet. I eat a lot of oatmeal. I eat veggie sausages and some good fruit.”

“I felt that beef and pork wasn’t good. I did my own tests and found that beef and pork weren’t really good for my system. So I’ve been a lot clearer by not eating those meats, and also chicken. Turkey was good, I like turkey, bacon and all that, but I just went vegan at one point. So when I decided to go back the other way, I just needed fish and I feel balanced with that. You’ve got to eat the right things. It’s not just about not eating meat. You’ve got to find out what your body needs, what’s healthy for you. What’s good for life.”

Pay a visit to Just Jared to learn how he feels people can get involved with their community like he’s done with his foundation, Common Ground.

Frank Iero Screws Cancer With MacBeth Vegan Shoe

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, February 2nd, 2009 in Fashion, Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Arrivals At The MTV Europe Music Awards 2007

My Chemical Romance’s Frank Iero has completed a project for MacBeth Shoes that will allow wearers to screw cancer and vegan at the same time. Hot!

The shoe contains detailed print instructions, complete with anatomically correct characters on the insoles, which show the wearer how to check for breast and testicular cancer. Frank was both the fashion developer and the artist for these shoes, as he drew the figures inside the soles.

In an interview with Alternative Press, Frank said he based the design off a previous vegan shoe, then elaborated a little.

“I based it off the older design that I had–it was called the Wallister. I [designed] another pair–I think it was one of the first they developed. I took some stuff from that, and just added and took away as far as the canvas, low-top shoe. For my [new] design concept I just drew a couple of pictures, and that’s what came out.”

On the heels, there are two messages, depending on if you want rated PG or more risque, you can choose between “F**k Cancer” or “Cancer Fighter.”

Frank knows the ugliness of cancer personally, as his aunt is a breast cancer survivor who also had a relapse.

A portion of the proceeds go to Syrentha Savio Endowment, a non-profit organization focused on fighting breast cancer.
