Internet Cat Film Festival A Huge Success (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, September 4th, 2012 in Animal Issues, Film & TV, Videos.

The first ever Internet Cat Film Festival was a huge success, drawing a crowd of over 10,000 feline lovers.

Festival Organizer Katie Czarniecki Hill said the idea started out as a joke.

“It is an experiment,” she told the Los Angeles Times. “It will be interesting to see if people think it is silly, or great, or a waste of time. But I like the idea of everyone admitting they like cat videos.”

A total of 79 videos were shown at the Minneapolis event, handpicked from about 10,000 entries.

This year’s winner in the people’s choice award was Henri 2, Paw de Deux, which won the “Golden Kitty” award. Henri 2 spends his moments lamenting the everyday problems cat endure, such as the pains of living with another “idiot” cat that annoys him by begging for cheeseburgers and the fact he’s not paid enough attention. Self-confident and secure with his body image, he pokes fun of humans who fear the bathroom scale.

Watch this Golden Kitty award winner below, complete with captions.

“Being brought up on an organic farm and having a different way of looking at life comes into everything that I do. From day one I didn’t want to be a hypocrite. What we hope to do is to isolate out a mill to just start the process, one that we will work with on a daily basis. The whole idea of improving one’s environmental footprint in this industry is you have to work with people.”

Stephen Colbert poked fun of Congressman Steve King’s (R-Iowa) recent comments that suggested legislation to crack down on dog fighting is placing animals above humans and is therefore, wrong to do.

“When the legislation that passed in the farm bill that says that it’s a federal crime to watch animals fight or to induce someone else to watch an animal fight, but it’s not a federal crime to induce somebody to watch people fighting, there’s something wrong with the priorities of people that think like that,” King said in July.

Understanding King’s viewpoint, Colbert uses an analogy that dogs growing up in poverty can have the same opportunity to get out and make it big like humans do–provided there are no silly anti-dog fighting laws to get in their way.

“It’s a classic Cinderella story,” Colbert begins on a segment of The Colbert Report. “A troubled young dog from a tough neighborhood looking for a way off the street heads down to the gym and chooses to enter the exciting world of dog fighting. A mentor takes him in, teaches this dog everything he knows. And when that dog feels ready, he enters the ring to prove to the world and to himself that he’s got the talent and tenacity to be a winner. Or a loser, in which case, he is killed.”
