Quantcast Vegetarian Star“The Colbert Report” Highlights King’s Stance On Dogs’ Right To Fight (Video)

Stephen Colbert poked fun of Congressman Steve King’s (R-Iowa) recent comments that suggested legislation to crack down on dog fighting is placing animals above humans and is therefore, wrong to do.

“When the legislation that passed in the farm bill that says that it’s a federal crime to watch animals fight or to induce someone else to watch an animal fight, but it’s not a federal crime to induce somebody to watch people fighting, there’s something wrong with the priorities of people that think like that,” King said in July.

Understanding King’s viewpoint, Colbert uses an analogy that dogs growing up in poverty can have the same opportunity to get out and make it big like humans do–provided there are no silly anti-dog fighting laws to get in their way.

“It’s a classic Cinderella story,” Colbert begins on a segment of The Colbert Report. “A troubled young dog from a tough neighborhood looking for a way off the street heads down to the gym and chooses to enter the exciting world of dog fighting. A mentor takes him in, teaches this dog everything he knows. And when that dog feels ready, he enters the ring to prove to the world and to himself that he’s got the talent and tenacity to be a winner. Or a loser, in which case, he is killed.”
