Carrie Underwood Self Magazine January 2010

Carrie Underwood Self Magazine January 2010

Carrie Underwood is on the January 2010 cover of Self Magazine and inside she’s divulging some secrets about her favorite foods, like Quorn, the meat substitute that’s made from a fungus, but sure doesn’t taste like one!

“If I eat too much before a show, I just want to sit down. Too little, and I’m starving. So I eat something small, like Quorn, a tasty meat-free protein, and green beans.”

Carrie has lent her support to the Humane Society in the past and doesn’t spare words when it comes to people who don’t care and look after animals.

“I hate it when people don’t take care of their pets. It’s important to spay or neuter them.”

Will Carrie be the next vegetarian celebrity to replace Bob Barker and be the public face for controlling the pet population?

Alanis Morissette Marathon Body Fueled With Kale

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, December 18th, 2009 in Female Musicians, Female Singers.

2009 Environmental Media Awards

Alanis Morissette has confessed to some serious kale addiction.

Maybe she and Kristen Bell should get together more often.

The singer who calls herself “90% vegan” said, “I eat kale salad. I put kale in my smoothies, kale in my soup. Kale, kale, kale! I feel like Popeye. I love it. I definitely need variety or I get super bored, so I have to mix it up with different sauces and tahini or whatever.”

That explains why one of her most recent parties was hooking up with vegetarian author Anna Thomas and digging her fingers through the fresh vegetable.

Alanis is currently training for the Biz Johnson marathon, which she says isn’t hurt at all by her vegan friendly diet.

“I think veganism is really well suited for training, at least for me anyway.”

Alanis is featured in the January 2010 issue of Runner’s World.

The Veronicas Lisa Origliasso Loves Vegan Nachos

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, December 9th, 2009 in Female Musicians, Female Singers, Food & Drink.

Lisa Origliasso of Australian pop-rock band The Veronicas arrives at the Rock & Roll Glitter Birthday Party in Sydney

Half of the pop duo The Veronicas really likes to get her vegan nacho fix on at Real Food Daily.

Last month, Lisa Origliasso Tweeted:

Is in LOVE with the vegan nachos at @realfooddaily everyone needs to go try them <3

And more recently, she Tweeted about RFD nachos again, in case the fans forgot:

Had the best vegan nachos at @realfooddaily…

Obviously, Real Food Daily’s got some great dairy-free grub, but if you can’t make it there, head to your closest natural foods store or go online and order Teese Vegan Nacho Cheese from Chicago Soy Dairy (and pick up some of their vegan ice cream or marshmallows while you’re at it).

You’ll get the best damn at home nacho cheese experience.

Period.

Tegan and Sara have designed their own shoes for vegan friendly shoe company MacBeth and campaigned against fur.

Their fans send them lots of vegan cookbooks.

They admit to liking vegan food.

But, darnit, they’re not vegan and proudly state they enjoy meat!

“We love vegans. My name rhymes with vegan,” jokes Tegan.

Tegan emphasizes that she and Sara prefer free range meat versus factory farmed, which makes the sting to the heart of vegetarians not as bad.

“I miss eating meat so much that I’m really attracted to things that look like meat,” Sara says.

Hello?! What looks like meat more than anythings else?

Faux meat ladies, faux meat!

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, December 8th, 2009 in Actors, Female Musicians, Female Singers, Food & Drink.

Environmental Media Awards 2009

Woody Harrelson admitted that a woman’s advice to give up dairy cured his acne and made his face as smooth as a baby.

Apparently, Woody has been so excited about his beauty routine, he shared it with Alanis Morissette.

“I’ll never forget my friend Woody Harrelson telling me I needed to get rid of the dairy in my fridge to clear up my skin,” Alanis said. “He was right. My skin looks great now.”

Woody has quite an influence over the veg celebrities, as he even encouraged Alicia Silverstone to get naked more often.

Ahem…In the garden, that is.

Alanis changed her entire lifestyle after picking up a copy of Dr. Joel Fuhrman‘s Eat To Live, and says she now focuses on high nutrient foods like “fruit, nuts, collards, kale, and spinach.”

Aretha Franklin Rockefeller Center 2009–Fur Real Or Fur Fake

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, December 3rd, 2009 in Female Singers, Fur Real Or Fur Fake.

Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting

Aretha Franklin performed at the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting recently all bundled up for the winter.

Voted Fugliest Fur Hag in 2008 for her critter collection, one might automatically guess the Woolly Mammoth costume Aretha wore was created from real animals who got no R-E-S-P-E-C-T.

But people change.

Could Aretha have wised up and realized that a diva of soul wearing fur is like a diva wearing the same outfit twice.

What do you think?

Is Aretha fur real?

Or is she faking it?

Leona Lewis Left Cutting The Cheese At Hotel

Written by Vegetarian Star on Sunday, November 29th, 2009 in Female Singers, Food & Drink.

2009 American Music Awards - Arrivals

Hotel food is a hit or miss for vegetarians.

Often, it’s best to pack your own protein bar and spoon from the peanut butter jar than risk the Continental Breakfast where the only food groups are pork, beef and stale bagel.

Leona Lewis found herself a little hungry and disappointed when the hotel she was visiting left her with few choices.

“There’s nothing to eat, the only vegetarian thing they’ve got on the menu is a cheese sandwich,” Leona said, according to the Sunday Sun.

“I’m starving,” she added.

Leona found happiness in sliced apples, but even you might not be so lucky next time.

A vegetarian report card has been created for travelers mainly in the U.S.

And vegetarianusa gives you the 411 on all the hotels, Bed and Breakfasts and resorts from Australia to New Zealand.

Cheese and apples aren’t bad, but even the best veggie champ can grow tired of that meal.

Check out both links to ensure your next trip doesn’t leave you eating  like a rat or rabbit between cities.
