Anna Wintour, Vogue Put Vegan Shoes On Fur Wearing Model

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009 in Fashion, Fur.

The September Issue chronicling Vogue‘s biggest edition of all time-September 2007-is now playing in select theatres.

The October 2008 issue featured an anti-fur activist’s nightmare and fur loving Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour‘s dream come true.

The concept “Women as Goats,” looked even sillier than it sounds as it featured women on top mountains looking “wild” with furs in Mongolian goat, coyote, Tibetan lamb and fox.

Didn’t know goats were so catty and competitive as it looks as if one goat is trying to steal the other goat’s shoe.

Don’t forget the vegan shoes to go with the look.

Yes, one of the models wears Stella McCartney platform Mary Janes.

Wonder if vegetarian Stella saw this and got as fumed as she did when a Hockley model wore one of her bras with a fur coat?

Natalie Dean is the founder of Beyond Skin, a vegan shoe company with a heart as big for the environment and workers’ ethics as it has for animals.

“For me, it’s cruelty-free, but it’s also where they’re made, who they’re made by,” Natalie said, when discussing how everyone has their ideas of what is ethical.

2009 Virgin Music Festival held at Deer Lake Park in Burnaby near Vancouver

Ben Harper makes us wanna steal some kisses from him.

Harper was in New York for Fashion Week recently showing his new clothing line with actor David Arquette, Propr.

Harper and Arquette were discussing the logo for Propr’s clothing line-three owls-over food and Harper decided to pass on the beer and burgers and opt for vegetarian chili instead.

Rumors have circulated that Ben is a vegetarian, but not much in confirmation.

As for why Arquette and Harper chose three owls?

“Owls have a great mythology, they’re mystical, they’re mysterious — and no one had claimed the owl,” Arquette said. “Except for Hooters.”

“We’re taking the owl back,” Harper said.

Eating lean veggie chili will help anyone look better in owls-even a Hooters girl.

Becki Newton Of “Ugly Betty” Smelled Real Ugly In Fur

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, September 18th, 2009 in Actresses, Fashion, Fur.

On location with Ugly Betty in NYC

Becki Newton plays the catty receptionist Amanda Tanen for MODE magazine on ABC’s Ugly Betty.

MODE is all about the fashion, and Becki has admitted to wearing some pretty ugly fashion, in our opinion.

Of her $14 vintage leather jacket with fur trim collar, Becki said, “After a few years of wearing it, I realized it didn’t smell that good. But I continued to wear it, because I loved it.”

Fur and leather don’t smell good?

Trust us, Becki, they don’t look good either.

“The September Issue” And Anna Wintour’s Furry Back

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, September 17th, 2009 in Fashion, Fur.

J Mendel Fall 2006 - Front Row

A movie about the editors, models, and photographers that made September 2007 the best selling edition of Vogue magazine ever, The September Issue,  hits the theatres this month.

Anna Wintour, fashion editor and editor-in-chief of American Vogue is known for reviving the fur trend in fashion.

Not sure how the “reviving” works, since the fur is dead, but Anna supposedly has the resurrection powers within her.

“Nobody was wearing fur until Anna put it back on the cover in the ’90s,” one stylist said, according to usatoday.com.

Thanks a bunch, Anna. The animals thank you as well.

Wintour has been quoted as saying,”There’s always a way to wear fur. Personally, I wear it on my back.”

Don’t see why she’s bragging about this, as most men won’t even admit to having a hairy back.

With the cruelty of animals being kept in cages on fur farms and even skinned alive for the hides, the best way to wear fur is to fake it or keep it on the original owner-the animal.

Lady Gaga Wears Fur: “2009 MTV Video Music Awards”

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, September 14th, 2009 in Fashion, Female Musicians, Female Singers, Fur.

Lady Gaga leaves her hotel wearing a fur coat, lingerie and thigh-high boots in Toronto, Canada

Lady Gaga was spotted leaving her hotel room for the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards in what looks to be fur.

Has to be fake, right?

Back when Gaga was sporting her Kermit the Frog coat, she said, “I really loved this one in particular because I thought it was commentary on not wearing fur, ’cause I hate fur and I don’t wear fur. We were all laughing in the house about how it looks like a pile of dead Kermits.”

Take a look and judge for yourself.

Has Gaga went back on her word?

Ginnifer Goodwin Grabs A Vegan Vaute Couture Coat For Winter

The September Issue Los Angeles Special Screening

If you could pick any one celebrity to dress vegan, who would it be?

Obviously those fur wearing hags of Hollywood top the list.

Vegnews.com recently spoke to three vegan fashion designers, Inder Bedi of Matt & Nat, Elizabeth Olsen of OlsenHaus, and Leanne Mai-ly Hilgart of Vaute Couture on who they’d like to play dress up with.

Leanne of Vaute Couture answered:

“I adore Ginnifer Goodwin, and she has just reserved her own Vaute coat! This made my month. Next, I would flip to dress Ellen [DeGeneres]. To steal the immortal words of Sting, “Every little thing she does is magic.” For non-vegan celebrity, Audrey Hepburn is my all-time favorite.”

Inder would like to take his fashion stab at Natalie Portman and Madonna.

Emily Deschanel and Cameron Diaz are favorites for Olsen.

If you want to copy Ginnifer’s style, you can choose your very own Vaute coat online at vautecouture.com.
