Stephanie Izard

Former Top Chef champion Stephanie Izard is far from being vegetarian. She was criticized by PETA and similar activists for serving veal at one of her restaurants.

This hasn’t stopped her from hiring a vegetarian, although most of us would rather see him in a better position than that of a BUTCHER!

“Yes, I am a vegetarian butcher,” Izard’s employee says in this video below.

Anthony Bourdain Vegetarian Hate Speech With Playboy

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, October 17th, 2011 in Chefs, Food & Drink, Not So Vegetarian.

Anthony Bourdain "Medium Raw"

Anthony Bourdain has picked Playboy magazine to sound off his latest complaints about vegetarians and vegans.

Well, at least he’s still on our side when it comes to mass-produced food and factory farms.

He’s got choice words for both groups in between his love for sheep testicles, seal eyes and In-N-Out burgers.

On Vegetarians:
They make for bad travelers and bad guests. The notion that before you even set out to go to Thailand, you say, “I’m not interested,” or you’re unwilling to try things that people take so personally and are so proud of and so generous with, I don’t understand that, and I think it’s rude. You’re at Grandma’s house, you eat what Grandma serves you

Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall

“I enjoy all aspects of cooking but like many chefs I’ve been lazy about veg. Meat and fish are tyrannical and dominate so much that anything else becomes a supporting act. The minute you put meat and fish aside you become much more creative with your veg.”

Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, on his recent decision to go vegetarian. Hugh has kept the creativity for about five months now. We congratulate him on his decision to go veg. But this photograph may have him getting more creative with vegetables than we asked for.

Giada De Laurentiis Predicts Vegetarian Trend For 2012 (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, September 30th, 2011 in Chefs, Food & Drink, Videos.

Giada de Laurentiis

It’s a little too early for New Year’s, but Giada de Laurentiis is already predicting the next big trend of 2012.

The Italian chef, Food Network star and cookbook author says next year will be all about “vegetarian, vegetarian, vegetarian.”

“I think people are just really looking for lighter food on a regular basis,” Giada said.

“Because of that I’m testing out a lot of pizza recipes with gluten-free flours. Almond flour and quinoa are two of my new favorite ingredients to use in everything. I’ve been playing around with them a lot — how to make fresh pasta with it, how to put it into baked goods — and then, of course, agave as a substitute for sugar. I’m trying to find fun ways to incorporate these things that have actually been around for a long time, not necessarily in our culture, and make them more mainstream.”

In the video below from the Food Network, Giada explains her motivations for developing vegetarian recipes, which include both her fans and her family.
