Ke$ha On The Humane Society Wyler Award

Ke$ha was the 2013 recipient of the Humane Society’s Wyler Award, meant to honor a celebrity or other famous person for their work in the animal welfare industry.

“I think that celebrity and fame is all very weird,” Kesha said in an interview. “Except when you can lend a voice to something you really care about.”

Miley Cyrus has used the power of Twitter to gain support for an end to horse-drawn carriages.

The pop singing star sent a message out to her 11 million followers to sign a petition that would allow horses working in carriages in New York City to retire.

“NYC is just 761 signatures shy of 100,000 petition goal to #FreeTheHorsesNYC! Sign @NYCLASS petition at http://StopHorseAbuse.com,” she wrote.

ABC’s Nightline recently featured a segment on the numerous ag-gag laws making their way through Congress.

“Would you like to see where your dinner came from?” asked Bill Weir during the episode.

Executive Director for the animal welfare group Mercy for Animals Nathan Runkle made an appearance to discuss the laws that seek to make hidden camera investigations on factory farms illegal. It is a move that many activists feel would hamper whistle blowers who out acts of animal cruelty.

Iditarod Tragedy Makes PETA Urge For Charges Filed Advertisers Removed

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has spoken against a recent tragedy that occurred during Alaska’s Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.

A five year old dog named Dorado was dropped from the race due to lack of performance. He was buried alive in drifting snow, the cause of death cited as asphyxiation.

“It’s a horrifying death, and we feel it was totally preventable,” PETA cruelty caseworker Kristin Simon said.

Martha Stewart Talks French Bulldog Rescue On Blog

Martha Stewart has taken to her blog to write about the love of her two French bulldogs and a bulldog rescue organization, French Bulldog Village.

Writes Martha:

“Francesca and Sharkey, my two French bulldogs, came from Suzanne Readmond of Just Us Dogs, a wonderful breeder in Maryland. Suzanne recently told me that she is the president of a small French bulldog rescue group called French Bulldog Village. Just last weekend, they took in eleven neglected Frenchie girls, whose breeder could no longer care for them. I asked Suzanne to tell us about the Village.”
