Anthony Bourdain Tells What Vegetarians Should Expect At Show

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, April 19th, 2010 in Animal Issues, Chefs, Not So Vegetarian.

Anthony Bourdain And Eric Ripert Visit SIRIUS XM

If you go to a live Anthony Bourdain show, don’t expect to see tofu being sauteed.

And don’t be afraid to be the butt of a joke.

The chef who once said it wasn’t polite to eat vegetarian when traveling and that “vegetarians, and their Hezbollah-like splinter faction, the vegans, are a persistent irritant to any chef worth a damn” wasn’t throwing compliments to meatless eaters when he spoke to syracuse.com.

“I’m making some vegetarian jokes, that’s for sure. … I’m genuinely angered at the idea of vegetarian traveling — that’s the crux of my discomfort with vegetarians.”

But he did say he’ll have a conversation with some of them.

How thoughtful.

“I’m comfortable having conversations with vegetarians. There are vegetarians I can talk to.”

For example, Bourdain wants you to talk about killing animals for food cause he’s bored to death about being asked what’s the worst meal he’s ever eaten.

“I’d much rather have someone get in my face about animal rights than softball questions.”

Somebody’s gotta ask him why he ate chicken in India after meeting some and petting them.

Brian May Launches The Save Me Campaign

Brian May launched his Save Me Campaign in Britain by posing in front of a billboard in West London recently.

The campaign is meant to protect animals by encouraging voters to preserve the current laws in place that protect animals, especially in areas of hunting.

The campaign was named after a hit Queen song by May titled “Save Me.”

Besides the recent Wales badger cull controversy, those supporting May’s campaign are also concerned about the 80-year old Hunting Act, which they believe is in danger of being repealed, depending on future election outcomes.

“We believe that there is a grave danger that Britain will soon revert to the barbaric past, when it was legal to hunt down our wildlife with dogs. The current Tory party leadership has vowed, if they win this coming election, to try to repeal the Hunting Act – a law which it took animal-lovers 80 years, and 700 hours of parliamentary debate to bring into effect, by democratic process, in accordance with the will of at least 75 per cent of the population.”

If the law is repealed, it would make legal the hunting of dogs, foxes, hares, stags and other wild animals in Britain.

Jackson Browne knows he should become vegetarian, but it’s the little things like Iberian ham that would make him give into temptation.

The one area of his animal eating life he’s looking to improve is seafood and it’s his mission to eat sea life that’s not endangered.

“I think I’m going to have to make it my business to find out which seafood is sustainable and which isn’t,” he says in the video from the Huffington Post.

If you’re a pescatarian, the Environmental Defense Fund has a handy chart listing seafood by Eco-Best, Eco-Ok and Eco-Worse based on what’s best for the health of the ocean and humans.

Kristin Bauer “Tails For Whales” PSA (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, April 16th, 2010 in Actresses, Animal Issues, Videos.

True Blood‘s Kristin Bauer has recorded a public service announcement for the International Fund for Animal Welfare’s campaign Tails for Whales.

The campaign was designed to show governments around the world how many people support protecting dolphins in Japan.

One way concerned activists can do this is by taking a photograph of themselves making a dolphin “tail” with their hands (for better pictorial explanation, visit the website), and uploading it to the Tailsforwhales.org site.

Besides being counted as an activist, you can also add your picture to your blog or personal web page or any other media source that gets people to take a second look and asks, “What’s this about?”

Betty White likes her wieners naked.

So that’s why Pink’s Hot Dogs is serving a completely plain dog in honor of Betty at the grand opening of their new restaurant in Universal City.

The actress will appear at the restaurant on Monday at 10AM for the celebration, according to The Laist.

There are two fantastic parts to this story.

First, Pink’s Hot Dogs has a vegan dog available.

There are several celebrity signature versions of dogs and the “Patt Morrison Baja Veggie Dog” is a vegan hot dog topped w/fresh guacamole, chopped tomatoes and chopped onions.

Second, for every Betty “Naked in the City” hot dog ordered, a portion of the profits will go to support the Los Angeles Department of Animal Services’ animal shelters.

Do a double good deed and ask for a vegan Betty’s naked hot dog.

Kelly Osbourne Will Do Justin Bieber If Canada Seal Hunt Cancelled

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, April 15th, 2010 in Animal Issues, Male Singers.

Odd Molly Flagship Store Opening

Kelly Osbourne will do Justin Bieber if Canada stops clubbing seals.

Ahem, she will do an impression of Bieber’s performance, that is.

She was recently quoted as saying, “Canada, if you cancel the seal hunt, I will dress up like Justin Bieber and sing one of his songs on YouTube.”

The Humane Society of the United States reports that many Newfoundland sealers are willing to consider a federal buyout of the sealing industry that would compensate them for lost revenue and develop economic alternatives if the hunt is closed completely.

It would great if the other half of them would be so terrified of watching a continuous play video of a Justin Bieber lookalike, they’d immediately throw their clubs away.
