Emily Deschanel discusses her motivations for going vegan and her experience at animal sanctuaries in this video interview for “Nights At The Round Table.”

“They are considered commodities,” Deschanel says about animals raised in factory farms, giving examples of the conditions they’re forced to endure and the resulting physical deformities that result.

For example, Deschanel mentions how animals can’t even get it on naturally for the sake of mass produced food. Turkeys have skin that is so thin, they cannot even mate without hurting the bird, so they are artificially inseminated instead.

Octomom No Match For Real Reproducing Kitties

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, May 19th, 2010 in Animal Issues.

Nadya Octomom Suleman Unveil's Banner Pushing Cat And Dog Birth Control

Octomom Nadya Suleman‘s attorney Jeff Czech said he was offended by the animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals comparing his client to a cat when they offered her money in exchange to hang a banner on her home promoting spaying and neutering.

Truth is, Suleman’s reproductive activities are a fraction of what real cats and dogs can do without in vitro fertilization.

As soon as cat reaches sexual maturity, it can breed and have up to five litters per year.

The average size litter is anywhere from 3-6 kittens, so that puts alley cat Fluffy with the ability to add 30 children to her family tree a year and give The Duggars some stiff competition.

Plus, cats don’t go through menopause and they can have these litters every year well into old age.

Eww. Old mammals having sex.

And now it’s evident why 4 million cats and dogs are euthanized each year in shelters because homes can’t be found for them.

Do what the PETA sign says: Don’t let your pet become an Octomom!

Get active in their sex lives and spay and neuter, taking advantage of several low cost Spay/Neuter programs in your state if you’re short on cash like Nadya.

Brigitte Bardot Protests Killing Stray Dogs In Romania

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, May 19th, 2010 in Actresses, Animal Issues.

Brigitte Bardot Lobbies to Save Romanian Dogs

Brigitte Bardot has written a letter to Romanian MPs, asking them not to go ahead with a plan to cull thousands of stray dogs in the nation’s capitol, according to The Telegraph.

Plans are under way to pass a law that would allow unclaimed stray dogs to be euthanized after seven days.

“Romania will not be able to evolve if it continues to take cruel decisions against sensitive creatures, which are under the protection of European law,” the actress wrote. “Stray animals, neglected and threatened on the streets, mirror the fear of a country which fails to approach the future based on the principle of voluntary responsibility.”

Bardot, both a vegetarian and animal rights activist, has personally donated her own money in the past for a sterilization program for stray animals, and she proposes such a program as an alternative to culling the 100,000 that live in Bucharest.

Mickey Rourke and his pet chihuahua Jaws star in PETA's latest billboard campaign in West Hollywood

Mickey Rourke‘s new girlfriend, Russian model and actress Anastasia Makarenko, better not complain about sharing a romantic evening with his Chihuahuas.

Rourke said if it comes between a canine and a woman, it’s a pretty easy decision.

He takes his dogs to dinner with him at restaurants and won’t eat anywhere unless the establishment serves up a doggie bag with his dinner plate.

“We like to go to dinner together,” Mickey told animal rights group People of the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). “I just like to go out with them to restaurants, to take walks with them.”

According to Chowhound, the state of Florida became the first in the U.S. to enact a law allowing dogs in the indoor areas of restaurants, though many at least allow them in outdoor patio areas.

A good thing, as this may decrease the chances of a pet suffering to death in a hot car on an afternoon when its owner chooses to grab a bite to eat.

“The most important thing about having a dog and loving a dog is keeping the dog its whole natural life,” he added. “It’s not about saying four months later, ‘Oh I met some girl and she’s allergic to it’. No man, you can’t do that. You gotta get rid of the girl. She gonna leave you eventually anyway.”

Canines before cuties, man. It’s the only way to go.

Nicolas Cage Won’t Eat Animals That Have Bad Sex

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, May 19th, 2010 in Actors, Animal Issues, Not So Vegetarian.

Jerry Bruckheimer Hand And Footprint Ceremony At Grauman's Chinese Theatre

Nicolas Cage is by no means vegetarian, but he’s chosen a very strange factor to determine what meat not to eat.

Cage says that pigs have the most undignified sex, and for that reason, he won’t touch pork.

Birds and fish get it on beautifully, though, and are fair game.

“I love all animals. I have a fascination with fish, birds, whales – sentient life – insects, reptiles,” Cage said.

“I actually choose the way I eat according to the way animals have sex. I think fish are very dignified with sex. So are birds.”

“But pigs, not so much. So I don’t eat pig meat or things like that. I eat fish and fowl.”

Seems odd that Cage eats the ones who loves, the so called “sentient” ones.

Has anyone told him that pigs are some of the most sentient animals, having intelligence beyond a toddler?

What exactly it is about the fish and birds’ game that makes Nicolas proud is unknown, but if all the creatures start getting their thing on in the sloppiest of ways, maybe he’ll start admiring the reproductive cycle of wheat and soy.

Mike Tyson joins his family for dinner at Mr Chow in West Hollywood

Did Mike Tyson go vegan to get PETA off his back for racing pigeons in the new Animal Planet show, Take On Tyson?

A poll currently underway at the Huffington Post says “no,” with plenty of comments and opinions.

“The vagan [sic] crowd here on huffpost needs to go watch a few interviews with this man, and then come back and retake the poll. This guy doesn’t give a hoot about anybody but himself.”

“Go vegan, for any reason at all, and you will make the world a better place.”

And our favorite…

“Damn let the man be a vegan.”
