My Dog: An Unconditional Love Story

My Dog: An Unconditional Love Story

My Dog: An Unconditional Love Story is a DVD documentary exploring the relationship between people and their pets.

My Dog features several celebrities and their pet stories, including Glenn Close, Edie Falco and vegetarian singer-songwriter Nellie McKay.

McKay’s story was somewhat bittersweet, as one of her dogs, Charo, died a few months after filming was complete.

Twenty percent of the profits from DVD sales go towards an animal charity of the celebrity’s choice, and McKay chose Animals Without Borders, an organization that rescues animals in other countries and brings them to the United States for adoption.

@BPGlobalPR

@BPGlobalPR

A mock BP Twitter account has been created, poking fun at the company’s PR attempts after the Gulf Coast oil spill incident.

@BPGlobalPR has over 65,000 followers and Tweets several times a day with humorous, snide remarks like the following:

“Btw, does anyone have Criss Angel’s email? I bet he can make this oil disappear! #bpbelievesinmagic #bpcares”

“A bird just stole my sandwich! You deserve everything you get, nature!!! #bpcares”

“Of course, bp cares about the fishing industry as well. Now, all tuna from the gulf coast comes pre-packaged in oil. #you’rewelcome #yum”

The updates serve as a nice laugh to distract from the catastrophe of the incident

The real toll on wildlife, however, is no laughing matter.

It’s estimated that over 300 birds have been killed so far due to the spill and the deaths of six dolphins found in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama since the beginning of the month are being treated as oil spill related casualties.

Giorgio Armani Honors Martin Scorsese & Leonardo DiCaprio in Shutter Island

Isabella Rossellini took Sundance Channel viewers into the sex lives of spiders, ducks and anchovies with her Green Porno and Seduce Me series.

Rossellini’s shows are designed to entertain and educate, as such was the case with an episode touching on sustainable fish and the problems of overfishing.

Rossellini shares in an interview with Treehugger:

“To myself I called them Green Porno with a Conscience. This was the series called Bon Appetit, and they all start with me preparing delicious risotto with shrimp, or eating fried calamari or eating anchovies on my pizza. And then they stop and there’s a vignette on how they’re made and how they are fished, how actually they are over-fished so that we are depleting our ocean.”

Cloris Leachman Breaks Out Condoms For PETA Spay/Neuter PSA Video

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, May 27th, 2010 in Actresses, Animal Issues, Videos.

Cloris Leachman has recorded a hilarious PSA about spaying and neutering pets for PETA.

Leachman fumbles with opening a condom package, which may have been a little easier if she had claws like a cat. Similarly, the unwanted pet population could be lower if cats knew how to use condoms.

“Condoms come in handy when you want to have some fun but you don’t want to get pregnant. Unfortunately, millions need this protection..Can’t even get the damn things out of the package…I’m talking about cats and dogs.”

Watch the clip to hear and see more of Cloris Leachman’s PSA.

Mickey Rourke and his pet chihuahua Jaws star in PETA's latest billboard campaign in West Hollywood

Mickey Rourke is carrying his balls across continents.

The actor has agreed to represent PETA is a campaign to encourage spaying and neutering pets, “Hall the Balls to Fix Your Dogs,” in India. Billboards with a similar tagline were placed in California last year.

“Rourke was so moved when he learned about the dog and cat overpopulation crisis in India that he jumped at the chance to challenge people to get their animals sterilized,” PETA said in a press release.

According to the animal rights group, India has about 25 million homeless dogs that roam the streets.

Max Lugavere and Jason Silva are the hosts of Current Tv’s Unseen, a show where viewers are invited to ditch the tourist pamphlets and take a look at a country from the eyes of a local.

On a recent episode, the two gentlemen featured Spain, and an event where locals showed up to throw tomatoes at each other, La Tomatina.

They compared the popularity of the tradition to the running of the bulls, Lugavere adding, “without the animal cruelty.”

Does Lugavere have a heart for animal rights?

He and Silva were interviewed by Alternative Apparel, where they discussed encouraging greener ways of living, like refusing to purchase food from factory farms.

Granted, living greener usually also means not wasting food, a lot of which is done in this celebration.

Watch the clip for the cruelty-free tomato tradition (minus the use of a ham to start the celebration) above with locals chanting, “There’s no tomatoes. We Want Tomatoes” and slipping and sliding in red pulp.

McDonalds-PETA

Reports from The Philadelphia Inquirer say Chrissie Hynde will protest outside the McDonald’s at 40th and Walnut Streets in University City in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Thursday, May 27, for the PETA McCruelty “I’m Hatin’ It” campaign, aimed at the fast food giant for refusing to switch to a more humane way of slaughtering chickens, something its European outlets have already done.

The protest comes just days after McDonald’s made another decision that lowered its favorability with animal rights activists when it refused to switch even 5% of its eggs to cage-free.

Hynde will be present to pass out Unhappy Meals, featuring creepy looking horror movie Ronald McDonalds, mangled plastic chickens and ketchup packets mimicking fake blood.
