Tippi Hedren went from starring in Birds to caring for cats.

The actress founded the Shambala Preserve, a home to tigers, lions and other big kitties that include Michael Jackson‘s Thriller and Sabu tigers.

Hedren’s life with big cats started in the 80s when she produced and starred in the film with African Lions, Roar, inciting her interest in the giant creatures.

Hedren was recently honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Humane Society’s Genesis Awards.

“It’s such a gift to have a mission that you feel really strongly about,” Hedren says in the video.

Maureen McCormick may like beans and rice as much as she liked kissing Gary Williams, otherwise known as Greg Brady, from the 70s series they starred in, The Brady Bunch.

“I had a mad crush on Barry at the time,” McCormick said, according to Palm Beach Post. “He’s single now, by the way.”

McCormick said she’s a vegetarian, and eating lots of the two foods together is how she gets her protein.

Two years ago, PETA sent McCormick a letter asking her to go vegetarian, insisting the diet would help her maintain her trim figure she obtained from Celebrity Fit Club.

Bet the animal rights group is smug knowing they can claim her as a victory.

Traditionally, kidney or black beans first come to mind when a dinner for beans and rice is suggested, but that shouldn’t stop you from exploring other legumes.

If you like hummus, you might love chickpeas, as the garbanzo bean is what’s mashed up and blended with spices to create the dip accompanied with pita chips.

If you’ve ever eaten an Asian meal with red bean paste, you’ve probably tasted the azuki bean, the tiny reddish brown bean grown in Asia and the Himalayans, that taste incredible over a salad as well.

Maybe McCormick will talk about her bean experiences in the follow up to her 2008 book she’s writing.

Cloris Leachman entertained Dancing With the Stars fans two years ago and has just finished filming a psychological thriller movie, a pilot for a sitcom and is in talks for a reality TV show about her living with her 21 year old granddaughter.

She’ll also be turning 84 this month.

Who invented the idea of mandatory retirement at 70 anyway?

Leachman, who recently attended the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine’s “Art of Compassion Gala,” attributes her energy to her vegetarian diet.

About the plan she’s been adhering to since 35, Leachman said, “I’m not rigid at all … but (I) choose things that are good.”

Rachelle Carson Begley is talking about a new line of earth friendly skincare products.

Bella Vé Natural Skin Care products contain ingredients found in nature like aloe vera and are described as “chemical and cruelty-free” on its website.

Cruelty-free can have different meanings, from the finished product not being tested on animals to containing no animal ingredients at all, and it’s not clear from the site what definition Bella Vé uses.

A few of the ingredients listed in the cleansers, toners and moisturizers (which can be checked against an animal ingredient database) can be obtain from animals or available in synthetic, such as urea, allantoin and glycerin.

Depending on your level of ethics, more investigation may be needed.

Jennie Garth signed up for Hidden Valley Ranch’s Garden Party campaign in an effort to teach parents how to incorporate the ideas of eating fresh produce and growing your own vegetables to their children.

I give them veggies when they’re hungry. Put out a plate after school with Hidden Valley ranch and you will be surprised.

Favorite vegetable rich meal to cook with kids:
Spaghetti with fresh tomatoes, zucchini, yellow squash, onions, and garlic pureed into the sauce. They love it!

Where she buys her veggies:
The supermarket or the farmers market. I prefer locally grown/organic whenever possible.

Jennie and her family are huge fans of broccoli and they eat it several times a week.

Bea Arthur "McCruelty" PETA Ad

It’s been said before that celebrities make more money from their graves than alive.

In the case of Golden Girl Bea Arthur, let’s hope that statement is true for the impact they make as well.

On Thursday, Arthur will be featured in a full page ad in the Chicago Tribune as part of PETA’s McCruelty campaign against McDonald’s.

“It’s enough to make Bea Arthur roll over in her grave,” is the tagline of the ad that describes how the animal rights group is dissatisfied with the fast food giant’s current methods of slaughtering chicken, and urges it to adopt another USDA approved method that is less painful and more humane.

The method is supported by McDonald’s animal welfare advisors, but its CEO Jim Skinner is currently calling the shots that ring “No.”

The ad’s message ends with Arthur’s character Maude’s famous haunting saying, “God’ll get you for that,” to Skinner.

Alicia Silverstone just finished filming one of the first scenes for her new film Butter, and it seems she may have been type casted–if only for one scene.

As previously mentioned, the film is about the lives of people involved in a butter carving contest, and is meant to poke fun of the 2008 presidential election where a younger, inexperienced candidate upsets the projected winner.

Alicia’s character protested against Red Ribbon, the company that sponsors the butter carving contest and a competitor wants to use the video of her protest against her.

Ah, yes, you knew there would mudslinging in the politics of butter.

“Basically, my husband, who’s played by Rob Corddry, and I foster home this child who’s been passed from home to home and can’t catch a break. We’re the straight people, so we don’t do anything too ridiculous. But at one point, Jennifer Garner’s character tries to use old footage of [my character] at a PETA rally against Red Ribbon, the fictional butter company that sponsors the contest, to bring down me and my child. I got to wear my PETA shirt.”

During the protest, Alicia’s character throws manure at the butter truck.

Wasn’t she the actress that said dairy was nothing but poo anyway?

Actually, that was pus and blood.
