Top Chef contestant Andrea Curto-Randazzo says the celebrity she had the most fun cooking for was Mike D. of the Beastie Boys.

“I was pretty excited to cook for the Beastie Boys. While I was at Wish there were quite a few celebrities that came in. They were really cool. During the MTV Awards their manager called up and was asking about all these vegetarian things because Mike D was a vegetarian.”

Fellow band member Adam Yauch adopted a vegan diet after undergoing treatment for cancer.

And a restaurant in San Francisco, Weird Fish, thinks the Beastie Boys are so much fun, they’ve redone a traditional seafood dish into a vegan one.

UNIVERSAL CITY, CA - JUNE 06: Actress Betty White speaks onstage at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards held at the Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal Studios on June 6, 2010 in Universal City, California. (Photo by Christopher Polk/Getty Images)

Betty White has worked with the Morris Animal Foundation for years, and the organization has established the Betty White Wildlife Rapid Response Fund, which gives wildlife researchers money to aid in times of disasters, such as that of the Gulf Coast oil spill.

Dr. Randall Wells of the Chicago Zoological Society’s Dolphin Research and Conservation Institute, based at Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota, Florida, will examine the effects of the oil spill on about 160 bottlenose dolphins living on the Sarasota Bay off the Gulf of Mexico.

There is already data on this community of dolphins, and the Betty White Wildlife Rapid Response Fund will now aid researchers to gather data after the spill.

“There is a long history of research on this population of dolphins,” says Patricia Olson, DVM, PhD, president/CEO of MAF. “This project has a great chance of documenting the effects of severe and chronic oil pollution in this species and many more animals affected by pollution found in the ocean.”

Dr. Oz To Men–Grab Your Balls, Eat Your Nuts

Once upon a time Dr. Oz was a processed food, steak loving junkie. Then, he met his wife Lisa, the vegetarian, who, although not able to bring him completely over to the veg side, has improved his eating dramatically after he followed what doctor wife ordered.

Known to give advice that follows eating more plant based foods for proteins, Oz recently recommended eating nuts for the brain and examining the testicles for the health of where some men may store their brains.

This advice was given in Oz’s “25 Greatest Men’s Health Tips” printed in Natural Awakenings magazine.

“Nuts are among the best sources of healthful fats and protein around. I keep a bag of walnuts in my fridge and use their massive dose of omega-3 fatty acids to boost my brainpower while I see patients. Half a handful eaten about 30 minutes before a meal will temper your appetite and help you avoid the drive-thru.”

Avocado means “testicle” in Aztec, according to Oz, which is what your own nuts should resemble if healthy. So don’t forget to examine your jewels, preferably not while consuming guacamole. Here’s how:

NEW YORK - APRIL 29: Actress Natalie Portman attends the 2010 New York City Ballet Spring Gala at the David H. Koch Theater, Lincoln Center on April 29, 2010 in New York City. (Photo by Andrew H. Walker/Getty Images)

Natalie Portman has signed on with Parfums Christian Dior to be their latest spokes model.

According to WWD, this will be the first perfume Portman has represented.

According to some databases, it may not be the best choice for a vegan.

Uncaged lists Christian Dior as a company that either 1. openly uses animal tested chemicals or 2. fails to demonstrate that both a product and ingredients used have not been tested on animals since after a fixed cut-off date.

Microsoft Vegetarians Unite–MSVeg Provided Needed Cafe Updates

Microsoft makes their vegetarian and vegan techies happy by offering an extensive selection of appropriate food through the food service provider located on the campuses, which probably has a lot to do with the activism of a group called MSVeg.

MSVeg is a group of about 650 active members who are employees of the company who refused to carry peanut butter and jelly to work every day. As a result, it’s a lot easier to be a vegetarian or vegan at Bill Gates’ empire than it was a decade ago.

Mark Aggar, leader of MSVeg, had an interview with IVU online. A few highlights:

How the idea for MSVeg came about:
“It was formed out of frustration of not having very good or consistent vegan choices in the MS cafeterias and the suspicion that there were a lot of folks at MS who felt the same. Basically I formed it to create a loud voice for better food choices for veg*ns.”

Australian model and MTV VJ Ruby Rose recently had to defend her choice of words when she said she follows a mostly vegan diet. Anyone who’s ever used the term loosely around a hard-core, purist vegan knows the trouble Rose found herself in.

Part time vegetarian, flexitarian, pescatarian, and now “veganese,” is the new term for someone who doesn’t eat certain animal products, thanks to Rose’s new coined phrase.

“I don’t eat any meat, I don’t drink milk, but I do eat cheese and fish, just to get my iron levels back up,” Rose told Confidential.

After the series of backlashes from the “you are not a vegan biotch,” crowd, Rose defended herself on Twitter.

Cat Cora will soon unveil her line of eco-friendly and healthier collection of pots, pans and skillets.

The Iron Chef competitor who’s promoted Morningstar Farms veggie products and says she’ll often cook vegetarian for her family has revealed the set will be made from bamboo and other non-toxic materials.

“Every chef wants her own line!” she told WebMD. “It’s a new business venture. My line is different because it uses a lot of acacia wood — a renewable product that’s like bamboo. It’s eco-friendly, doesn’t expand and holds up better when washed and used. I’m also doing utensils with acacia wood and stainless steel together, which I haven’t seen been done before.”

Jenna Jameson has recorded a PSA for PETA for their McCruelty “I’m Hatin’ It” campaign against McDonald’s for the fast food giant’s refusal to switch to a less painful method of slaughtering its chickens, Controlled Atmosphere Killing.

In addition to Jameson’s PSA below, there is an interview session where she encourages people to make small differences in their lives by at least reducing the amounts of animal based products they consume.

“You don’t have to become a vegetarian if it’s too much for you. Just small steps. Cut out the (chicken) nuggets. Cut out leather products.”

“Most people out there have compassion for animals. And you don’t really have to watch the things that make you cry or hurt you, but for me that’s what changed me. I needed to watch those things,” she says regarding footage of animals in factory farms and slaughter houses, which made her boycott McDonald’s.
