Jake Gyllenhaal Discovers Tobey Maguire Chocolate Fix (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009 in Food & Drink, Videos.

Jake Gyllenhaal interviewed Natalie Portman and Tobey Maguire to discuss their upcoming film, Brothers.

As mentioned earlier, Natalie bummed off Tobey’s vegan chef on the set and was able to enjoy delish meals like falafel while filming.

When Natalie mentions that someone told her Tobey ate chocolate on the set, Tobey has to defend himself.

“Hold On. I want to address this chocolate thing,” Tobey jokes.

“There is a rice milk chocolate–a vegan rice milk chocolate that I eat.”

Is Tobey talking about the numerous dairy free candy bars like Dark Chocolate Raspberry, Dark Chocolate Almond and Sweet Chocolate Creamy Sweet from Rice Dream?

Watch and find out!

Oh, boy.

PETA can’t let a month go by without making controversy with naked people and/or sex and Joanna Krupa‘s latest ad, complementing her last Be An Angel For Animals poster, is stirring up conversation.

The Catholic League isn’t too happy about Joanna’s use of the cross when talking about sex, but Joanna has reassured officials that it’s just puppy dog love.

“It’s understandable that the Catholic League is wary of another sex scandal, but the sex we’re talking about pertains to dogs and cats,” Joanna said in a statement.

“As a practicing Catholic, I am shocked that the Catholic League is speaking out against my PETA ads, which I am very proud of. I’m doing what the Catholic Church should be doing, working to stop senseless suffering of animals, the most defenseless of god’s creation.”

Hopefully, Catholics will come to appreciate Joanna’s push to protect all of creation.

Let just hope she never wears that outfit to worship services.

Best selling author Jonathan Safran Foer recently interviewed with Grist.

Foer discussed his latest book, Eating Animals, and touched on the hypocrisy of meat eating environmentalists, his own struggles of vegetarianism and the fact that he probably didn’t have Tofurky this past Thanksgiving.

A few highlights:

Will there always be a Tofurky on the Foer table during the holidays?
I don’t really get into the whole tofurky business.

On Environmentalists Who Don’t Push Going Veg:
No, they obviously haven’t [done enough], and they know it’s the elephant in the room. They haven’t because they fear that addressing it is going to risk losing people…This is the number one cause of global warming—and not by a little bit but by a lot. The most recently revised estimate was that animal agriculture is responsible for 51 percent of greenhouse gas emissions, so that’s more than everything else put together. If we’re going to seriously think about this stuff we might have to risk the discomfort.

On Fear Of Going Completely Vegetarian:
I would say don’t think about it as becoming a vegetarian. Think about it as a process of eating less meat. And maybe the process will end with eating no meat. But if Americans lose one serving of meat a week from their diet it would be like taking about 5 million cars off the road. That’s a really impressive statistic that I think might motivate a lot of people who feel they can’t become vegetarians to remove one serving of meat.

“Brothers” Natalie Portman, Tobey Maguire Shared Vegan Chef

Natalie Portman arrives for the 2009 Gotham Independent Film Awards in New York

When it comes to the catering, the more vegetarians the better to make it easier on everyone who chooses cauliflower over chicken.

Tobey Maguire and Natalie Portman star in Brothers, and the two not only got along well on screen, but during snack time as well.

When Natalie found out Tobey brought his own vegan chef to the set, she demanded that he share.

Natalie told marieclaire.com:

“Tobey Maguire brought his own vegan chef to the set. “I was like, ‘Um, could you make two of those?'”  “And I’d make a cute face, and they’d roll their eyes and give me another falafel.”

Although they say the camera adds 10 pounds, Natalie and Tobey probably never had to worry about finding bigger set clothes, since the vegan chef only served up the healthy stuff.

Wonder if Tobey convinced any other cast members to try a falafel from time to time?

Brendan Hines, the actor who plays Eli Loker on Fox’s Lie To Me, is going green all the way–eventually.

It’s taking some time to make the greatest green impact on the world by going vegetarian.

“I stopped eating meat,” Brendan said, according to mnn.com.

“I’m phasing it out slowly. I’m a pescatarian right now,” he added.

Guess it’s a good thing for Mother Earth that Brendan doesn’t like airports, saying they make him feel “crotchety” and he ages “about 50 years” when he’s flying.

Plus, when was the last time you got a gourmet veg meal on a plane trip?

IFP's 19th Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards - Show

Are jokes that make fun of vegans funny or offensive?

At the recent Gotham Independent Film Awards, Chris Rock jokingly called vegan Natalie Portman a “salad shooter.”

Innocent enough.

Natalie responded with a look that could kill without a slaughterhouse.

Relax, Nat.

At least everyone knows where you stand on health, animals and the planet.

And Chris Rock has said much much worse things before.

Alicia Silverstone chatted with Ken Spector at the Green Lounge Project where they talked and talked about vegetarian food, Alicia’s favorite restaurants and the myths of free-range meat.

“It’s legal to have fecal matter on your meat,” Alicia says.

“So when you buy a cellophane wrapped steak, you’re getting poo poo too.”

So that’s it.

The question of what “mystery meat” is has been answered.

Watch the clip to learn why one of Alicia’s favorite “restaurants” is her own kitchen.

Ginnifer Goodwin Vegan Mac And Cheese Cheating Heart (Recipe)

Prada Book Launch Cocktail at Prada Beverly Hills

Vegetarians are just like most other human beings, meaning that around the Holidays they will stuff themselves so much, you’d think a farmer was planning to make foie gras out of them.

InStyle magazine asked Ginnifer Goodwin what her Holiday “cheat” was and Ginnifer responded, “I don’t eat animal products of any kind, but I have a big problem with vegan macaroni and cheese.”

Who wouldn’t have a problem controlling themselves with a dairy free version of one of the biggest comfort foods on the planet?

Most homemade vegan mac and cheese will contain nutritional yeast, which not only adds that “cheesy” color, but brings out a rich and creamy taste.

This holiday season, try out this recipe from vegweb.com, Mama Koala’s Vegan Mac and “Cheese.”

Because cheating on dairy is always forgiven.
